  • The Piedmont & Susquehanna Limiteds Plus covers the Piedmont Limited & the Susquehanna Limited, along with rare footage of the Baltimore & Ohio and the Roanoke Transportation Museums.
First, we see the Piedmont Limited, which was a Train that ran from Alexandria to Charlottesville, Virginia. Ex-Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson No. 2839 provided the motive power for this round trip.
This is followed by the Susquehanna Limited, pulled by Pennsy GG-1 No. 4935 which ran a circular route from Washington to Harrisburg by way of the Susquehanna River Line, East to Philadelphia and finally, South back to the Capital.
Both of these trips were run in conjunction with the National Railway Historical Society's "Capitol Limited '79" Convention at Washington, D.C. in 1979.
Canadian Pacific 2839 operated in excursion for the Southern Steam Program from 1979 to 1980 & eventually was sidlined (due to it not being strong enough to pull the long excursion trains the Southern threw at her.) It spent a brief time at the Wilmington & Western Railroad & The Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad, eventually winding in Sylmar, California as part of the Nethercutt Collection.
For those interested in learning more about 2839''s time in the Southern Steam Program, please consider watching the Southern Steam Program Documentary (also on the channel):

PRR GG1 4935 operated until 1980. From 1981 to 1983, 4935 was put on public display at various locations and eventually wound up on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA.

This has been uploaded in an effort to preserve its historical contents.

I really liked the old Roanoke Museum shots, I saw the museum there the summer before they pulled 611 out. I had no idea I'd see 611 and 1218 in steam not long after that!

At 49:46, I always thought the original number for the C&O Greenbrier was 614.

It is, I think they just had it renumbered at the time when this was taken. It has been renumbered as that on other occasions to

Due to leasing issues with the RFP, I believe it was due to an Northern that was also numbered 614.

Yeah the C&O leased some engines from the RF&P one of which being RF&P 614 so they had to renumber C&O 614 to 611. When they did the ACE3000 project, it was numbered 614-T and then numbered 614 for the rest of its excursions. Now it sits in Clifton Forge waiting for restoration that won’t happen if CSX won’t cooperate.
