I’m kind of surprised that more people aren’t mugged on the street carrying around their cases, or held up at gunpoint etc. seems like it would be easy targets as average Joe’s leave these shows
@@johnnyv1938like Dustin said it’s straight cash in that case. I agree with him.
Every show I'm at my heads on a swivel. But the way the worlds gotten, you need to be aware of your surroundings atall times, and if possible, stay armed.
The only good thing about a high-end card theft at a show, is that there is now a heightened awareness with the dealers. There are opportunists everywhere.
If I was a merchant, I’d have a picture binder for high end items. The centering and look of a card is important to buyers. Having a couple pages of pictures (10 pics total) for each high end card. They don’t sell often and merchants with tons of high end usually have a team, who could help with process.
This being The Sports Card DAD channel, it’s very important for more security. Kids are walking around with those cases. Someone can easily overhear their conversations with dealers and target them.
Honestly, i never understood why you would display a 52 Topps Mantle in a glass case at a card show to begin with?
If someone is buying a 52 Topps Mantle at a show , it isn’t a normal negotiation. In fact, it would go down somewhere in private because there are other factors in terms of payment that have to be agreed on.
A simple picture of the slab should be fine in the glass display case while the card can be secured away when the deal really goes down. But you know these dealers love to show off their cards at shows (especially the National), it’s sort of ridiculous to have them in the type of glass case you have your Joe Burrow rookies in. I know my post sounds somewhat harsh, but the deals for these type of cards are so much different than 99% of the deals at card shows. Why treat a super high end card(s) like the other 99%?
Agreed. I would do nothing but stress having huge cards like that at a show
I’d be combing every single vlog from that weekend just to see if those dudes’ faces just happened to walk by during a shot. I mean the absolute lunacy of these guys, they should know that there’s not only security cameras but vloggers and iPhones everywhere. It’s the Dallas Card Show!! 🤦🏻♂️
There's Camera's everywhere. People aren't going to get away with it. Those people who did that in Dallas will get caught. They showed a video with a close up so soon they will get caught I think
I am not sure how or why these cards were left alone in the first place? Back when I did Comicons, I NEVER left the bigger value books go unwatched or alone. There was ALWAYS someone left specifically to watch and guard them. Even during the show it self. I had a specific person who stood next to the big board watching constantly.
Right. Not like you would leave a Captain America #1 in the open an walk away
Yes this was a heavy crime and the thing that worries me is the coordination of the individuals. That's difficult to stop fully.
Ego, there still going to bring them, never happen to me attitude unless a multiple dealers get raided.
Put an Apple air tag in your case at the national. Thats what I am doing. Also I have my valuable cards in a huge safe in my house.
Good take Dustin, hopefully the thieves will be caught. And justice served. It's so sad that this crime happened. Getting rid of the scammers in the hobby is going to be difficult I think due to the prices of some of the cards as you mentioned, but yes, card shows, and not just the biggest card shows are going to have to find a way for greater security, and safety.
The national with the cases looks like the scene at the end of the Thomas Crowne affair.
There have been high end buyers that also have been robbed in the parking ramp at Dallas. That could very easily happen at any show. I always try and stay in groups or have someone else with at the big shows. Take down time at shows makes me nervous when I'm still there and the room is nearly empty. Big cards will still be around. I think airtags are a good idea.
Used to walk around some sketchy places on buying trips with Al Rosen and his brief case for of cash. We would put the money in our pockets to go eat. Strang feeling with a $25,000 wad in your pocket at a steakhouse.
I am taking steroids, training with UFC instructors and reading detective books so I am not a victim.
They will disappear if you put them in a case and treat that case like a lunchbox.
I always thought there wasn’t enough security at the card shows. This just might mean that the dealers are going to have to pay more for their tables, unfortunately
Conventions to issue registry via trackers 🤔
What if people just start bringing iPads or screens with their inventory loaded. People swipe through like a Redbox machine. Cards are in a lockbox behind table and are pulled out when a card is asked about. 🤷♂️
I dont know. Dont know why you even go to a card show at that point, just buy all your cards online.
@@johnwayne9828 still benefits to a show. Still see the card in person before buying, no shipping so instant gratification, card goes home with you, get to pay cash. Still plenty of upside
Nothing will change.
I was going to bring stuff to the national, but now having second thoughts. Most of my stuff is in a vault, and if someone wants to buy it/trade, I'll ship/transfer it within my PWCC vault.
I see a lot of kids at shows walking around with cases with who knows how much money worth of cards in them. Surprised we don’t hear about people getting mugged going in and out of shows more often.
With proper insurance and security things like this wouldn't happen.
This theft has zero effect on the average collector. Except that they've been swamped with people talking about this and analyzing the video over and over.
@@johnnyv1938same, dude should have watched his cards. Who leaves $2 million unattended? Not saying it’s his fault, but he gave 0 effort to avoid that. He learned the hard way.
Putting your cards in a safety deposit box is the same as putting money in the bank. They are their assets now. FDIC 7 trillion in liability. 200-300 billion in assets. Can you say insolvent. Seems safe to me
Awesome show broski🤙🏽.
Airtags are great, highly recommend. Will say i was considering bringing some high end cards to the national for trades or whatnot but rethinking it now.
so dealers are going to pay fortune for tables and bring garbage to sell really
Mike, EP, and I are bringing our muscle Mike Jones to make sure our rabid fans don't get too close to us!! lol
