I love the way they just decided to combine kung fu and Looney Tunes. Also, fun fact, the landlady's a LEGEND of Chinese cinema. Learned to stagefight alongside Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, same teacher. She wasn't even planning to be in this movie, she was accompanying another actress to auditions and the director saw her and begged her to look at a part.
"snot - I can *not* do snot!"
2 seconds later
"UUUHHHRRGH!!!"
I knew in the edit it was coming when he mentioned snot and got excited. Didn’t disappoint. LoL
Lol when you said "I canNOT do snot!" and then I remembered what was coming up...HAHAHA!!!
That was me in editing. And he didn’t jot disappoint. LoL
🤣🤣🤣 I was set up
My favorite bit of trivia from this movie is the woman who played the land lady went to the audition to support her friend and just sat behind her smoking and that got her the job. Also, this is one of my favorite movies
Used to work at AMC when this came out, it was on the smallest screen. Anyone who asked my opinion on what to watch, saw this amazing movie. I kept it on screen for 3 weeks by local word of mouth. Almost all responses were thanks. Glad to see you on it. Gotta watch the subtitle version for best experience.
"If i were any other shap than round, I woud wear those"... You and me bro... you and me bro.
I swear they look stylish and comfortable as hell
The soccer bit is from another Stephen Chow classic known as Shaolin Soccer, starring him and a number of the same actors from this movie.
Stephen Chow starred, wrote, produced, and directed this film. It's so damn hard to make a movie like this with so many different elements, references, special effects, and themes. But he somehow makes it all work. I normally hate Kung Fu films that get fancy with fantasy fighting, but everything just clicks in this movie. It just works somehow. This movie makes you feel like a kid again. It's still going to be awesome 50 years from now. Also, Chow wanted to use a real orchestra, with authentic Chinese instruments, to do the score. He knew it would help give it a sense of time, and timelessness. This movie is brilliant in every aspect. Well done Mr. Chow.
21:54 it was the one they call "Coolie" who kicked the 1st gangster, and broke his back, he was standing behind the gay dude at the beginning, when the axe gang showed up, and he admitted to it when they were going to light the mother and son on fire. he caught the lighter and said "It was me!". he had the strongest kicks in the neighborhood 😂 great reaction to one of my favorite movies! 👍 10:20 you can see Coolie standing in the background, with the white headband, he moved so fast, no one saw him kick the gangster.
Lol I never noticed him standing there
17:20 it's a form of fortune telling. You shake a bag of sticks and whatever falls out first is the fortune. Each different fortune is on each different stick. It's like casting dice in DND or picking straws out of a hat.
You set yourself right up for the snot kid at the end ha ha.
Lol I should have known it was coming when they mentioned it
I love how little dude looks at you like" You do realize that you only job is to pet me, right?" Great looking pups ejoying the content!
Lol he wants petted 24/7. Thank you showing my babies love and I’m glad you been enjoying
I’m actually guessing what the censor pic is gonna be before I watch these now. 🤣🤣🤣
Lol did you guess right?
@@J_EOMReacts Nope. I guessed it would be that cig-smoking lady’s head 😆😆😆
This is such a kickass and funny movie. It's one of my favourite reactions movies to watch people love this hidden gem.
You did a spot on impression of those old martial arts movies!!!!! That was hilarious! Love the channel, keep up the good work
Much appreciated!
One Thing I love with this movie is you can watch both the dub and sub versions and they're different enough to enjoy each in own right. For me, the differences don't just work, but are uniquely entertaining each in own way.
(An interesting quirk is in the subbed version, signs are translated too - so things like in the police station, the name of the area of the town, gang name etc)
“DAAAMN, they deep” is gonna be my new ringtone
Lol dude they was End Game final battle deep
🤣🤣🤣
One of the top action/comedy martial arts movies ever made, right up there with some of Jackie Chan's best work. Would definitely recommend trying a subtitled version, if you decide to watch it again; there's a few different versions of the English-language dialogue.
Absolutely. And he said he wants to check a few versions out.
The subtitled version is so much better to me. The actors' real voices and tones make it even funnier.
@@johnjr757 Oh, I love that version, too.
This is one of the few film that i preffer the dubbed version to. The voice actors was pretty good choices for the characters. Sadly a couple of jokes get lost due to this tho. Shaolin Soccer it is better to watch the subbed version as the dubbed version has cut content.
The Cantonese version is the best... also this up there with some of sammos classics as well.. he choreographed the first fight scene in pig sty alley but got sick during filming and Yuen woo ping took over.
This movie made me and my daughter's laugh so hard, I bought the DVD years ago. Still have it
Bro!!!...by far one of my go-to movies cuz it's always fun...I'm excited to watch your reaction!!..and yo Dawgs...lol
My sister and I were flicking through TV channels late one night and stumbled across this film. Can you imagine what it's like to start watching this film with no context from the cocoon scene onwards. We had to hunt down the rest of this film just to know what the fuck was going on
“I do not do snot…”
😂😂😂
they wrong for showing that lol
A whole gang of honest apes..... Can't fight. Is probably my favorite phrase of all time
🤣🤣🤣
The first time i saw this movie i was really high. I seldomly laughed harder in my whole life. oh and you have awesome dogs
Thank you for showing my babies love
The more I watch this reaction, the more I laugh my ass off. “Necklace of little dicks”. Brilliant
Had them around my neck like scalps and ear lobes
Lol 😂😂😂😂
This movie was one of the experiences where I just expected Kung fu, and when the over the top looney tunes action began, I was left so confused. Once I accepted it was like that, it was a wild and fun ride. BTW, no one pisses on you without the murder whistle blowing a deadly melody in return.
Oh they would have most definitely heard the murder whistle
“Little gay dude” didn’t do shit. Haha he got saved by that first guy who was kicking ass
Well I’m need them to show exactly what he did lol
@@J_EOMReacts me too! Aside from vague, light speed, anime-like reveal attack. lol!
Lolololol someone once said if a dude hits you so hard dust flies off you that's a bad dude. If this guy hits you so hard the back of your clothing explodes ....... That's a master
That’s a smart individual
Kung pow: Enter the first is not as good but more like you said where they add new shots and make comedy lines over an old Kung Fu movie
It’s on his list.
MG...THANK YOU for giving me the clue where to find the meaning of "Murder Whistle". I've been jumping all over your videos looking for the reference! LOL
I adore this film. There's so many love letters to different aspects of cinema. Stephen Chow is a genius. His sense of comedic timing is impeccable. I'm not gonna give you crap on the sub/dub debate. I know you already heard back about it. A lot of movie purists just prefer original audio dialogue. Taking away an actors voice affects the performance. But hey, you're here, you got to watch an awesome movie either way. You know this movie's awesome. That's all that matters. If you liked this you'll love Stephen Chow's previous movie, SHAOLIN SOCCER. I highly recommend you check that one out. It's a movie that will make you laugh and feel good. He made a little nod to that movie in HUSTLE, when he stomped the soccer ball at the beginning. If you want a classic Kung Fu film, check out 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, it's based off of a real life monk. And if you want one of the most insanely good non stop action film check out THE RAID: REDEMPTION. One of the best action movies made in this century. You and the boys keep up the good work!
Shaolin soccer is fantastic.
“Snot. I can not do snot”
Dr SeussWhistle 😂😂😂
Not sure if you've seen it but when you said "hit the button" I got a flashback from enjoying Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker
Lol I know the part you talking about
I bought this movie on DVD 10 minutes after i saw it for the first time. Then bought it again on bluray 10 years later. In my top 10 for sure
Edit: also regarding the sub/dub debate. There are just a few scenarios where a dub adds something positive to the original work. I think this movie qualifies as one of those instances, the english dub is just hilarious on it's own. The voice acting is actually really funny and entertaining, but obviously the original actors and their actual voices are better. Anime is usually the same, with a handful of exceptions (my personal exception is Cowboy Bebop, I think the english dub is at least as good as the original japanese dub)
Me and a buddy watched it back when it first came out. It's always been one I've been waiting for J to watch and edit his reaction. Always loved it.
EOM: “This must be the star of the movie.”
Me: “…🤐”
I think this is the 3rd time watching this reaction, I love this film so much but it's your reaction that is so enjoyable that makes it more fun. Keep up the good work of putting a smile on my face. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Your awesome dude, I love how you keep it short and sweet and add the best bits to react too, not to mention your fucking hilarious. Much love from Australia bro. X.
Thank you and I’m sure Blank (editor) will thank you as well for that
JL, I am so glad you enjoyed this movie! It's one of my favorites, and Stephen Chow's films have always entertained me. You should definitely check out Shaolin Soccer, which he made before Kung Fu Hustle. He uses all of his "brothers" from that film, as well as his usual company of repertory actors. Shaolin Soccer is just as goofy; actually it's more of a live action cartoon than Kung Fu Hustle.
Chow is a HUGE Bruce Lee fan, as well as a fan of the old school kung fu films from Shaw Brothers, Golden Harvest, and other classic studios. He uses a lot of actors from those films in this one. For example, the actor playing the Beast, Leung Liu-lung, was originally billed as "Bruce Leung" back in the 70s, one of several Bruce Lee imitators populating kung fu cinema. Yuen Was, the landlord, grew up as one of the Seven Little Fortunes along with Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Xiao; of the seven he was considered the best at kung fu; he was often cast as the bad guy in his films, especially when playing opposite his brothers; and he was Bruce Lee's stunt double. Also, he and Yuen Qiu, the Landlady, have become quite the comedy team, and have starred together in several films since Kung Fu Hustle.
I gotta say, it was interesting watched the dubbed version of this film and noticing all the dialogue changes. I have only ever watched the subtitled version (like 50 times already).
Another great video! Keep up the great work!
I’ve been hearing great things about Shaolin Soccer. Im have to check it out
@@J_EOMReacts Please do. I guarantee you won't regret it!
The girl came out with the big mouth and did a little half spin, and I kid you not. A commercial cut in and it was the clairol makeup commercial with the woman with the big mouth and she did the same half spin. And then it cut back to you and you mentioned the girls big mouth. And I was amazed at the universe!
Edit. And then I typed a comment and then went back to the video and the woman said the girl has a big mouth and the universe laughed
😂😂😂 Perfect.
🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious and great reaction as always cuz and yes, those were definitely some dope fight scenes. And naw.... I don't do spit or snot either lmao
Lol it has to run in the family
It was Coolie, the leg guy that put the guy in the drum with the broken back. He admitted to it when he caught the lighter.
At first when he said it I thought he was just saying because he was the “hero” of the movie and he wanted to protect him from the huge gang
One minute, ten seconds before you got my thumbs-up. That's gotta be a record, you didn't even start watching the movie before you got me laughing.
J don't panic. Whistle around snakes. They get calm.
Lol you seen me try to whistle
@@J_EOMReacts lololol. They shoulda done it around the black mamba in Jumanji welcome to the jungle

All those are coming
If you want another martial arts comedy (Stupid movie but endlessly quotable and hilarious) check out a movie called "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist". It's more of a comedy than this and less martial arts but it still counts. Basically the creator (and star) inserted himself into an old kung fu movie with a green screen. I think he did almost all the dub voices as well.
Enter the fist is hilarious
I prefer to listen in Chinese and read the subtitles on this movie. Much better, in my opinion.
I agree, but editing is different.
I learned on a previous video that subtitles can make life difficult when trying to cut how we do to still pass copyrights and get the moments we want.
That’s why I had to buy the movie because I was watching it over and over and over again to
“Oh hell no, I’d of had me a necklace of lil d^s!”
🤣 What?! That cracked me Up 😅
Subscribed
Lol glad you enjoyed and welcome to the family
So my personal suggestion if you're going to watch foreign martial arts movies and stuff like this it's better to watch it subbed out because watching it dubbed has no weird near the same emotion kind of like attack on Titan is a prime example listening it into English versus subbed is too completely different scenarios it's the same thing with this
When it’s not a looney tunes comedy and I find a way to cut action/subtitles in an fashion that can pass copyrights and make sense, I promise I’ll try.
Had I know there’d be this much blowback we probably wouldn’t have even done it yet.
I bought this when it first came out and loved it, your video makes remember how hilarious it is.
Edit:simple grammatical error :)
Lol everything I say is a grammatical error. You’re good
9:56 they brought there dark chi with them. Same thing when he was busting out the bad frog guy and his chi was a river of blood. Little known fact
Edit: also the guy swatting flies around 12:00 is the same guy who played the big toad boss. He was a cameo at first
Edit edit: blood bath at 25:15 chi mfker dark ass chi.
The barber never beat anyone up. It was the guy that beat everyone up afterwards.
So how the dude get in the barrel
@@J_EOMReacts I literally just told you.
@@J_EOMReacts As a matter of fact the guy that did it literally said "It was me".😂 11:32
@@sagittarius420cheefie lol what I’m asking is what did he do to him. I understand I missed who done it but I’m asking what did he do
@@J_EOMReacts He didn't do anything, the AX gang guy was trying to bully the barber I guess. He was about to slice him with the ax and the Kung Fu master stuffed that nga in a barrel before he had the chance.
"he shot her in the back and hit her with the chacha" killed me just the dancing is some of my favorite bits in the movie
YES YES YES. My favorite Kungfu/ Comedy. Im so glad you chose this! EXCELLENT!
This movie is hilarious
stephen chow has dozens of great action comedy movies! God of Cookery, Shaolin soccer, From Beijing with love, King of comedy, Royal Tramp, Forbidden city Cop... a kung-fu-comedy genius!
I don't know if anyone else has recommended it, but if you liked this, you should definitely check out Shaolin Soccer!

Ridiculously, silly, funny movie. Stephen Chow kicks ass, literally. Shaolin Soccer is another excellent one by him.

21:09 when you play an ace, you can't play that same card again. The bad guys have low or no scrupples...they don't care how they win and they will take it deep into your life to harass you unto your people's. Learn to tolerate. “The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin”
All time great - timeless. Could never be made again.
Great movie. The fights were coordinated by Yuen Woo-Ping, who not only did the Matrix movies but many early Jackie Chan films as well as countless others.
A true classic lol 😆
Fun fact, the English dub is the rarest form of this movie. Some people think it's awful, I for one happen to love it. I think it adds to the campy atmosphere 😂
The fun thing is that it's basically a _parody_ of the old-style 'kung-fu' movies, mocking the way they always go, and deliberately over the top for that reason. It's brilliant, and if it was made in China (which I think it was), it's a _masterpiece_ of subversive film making given that they seem to effectively have _laws_ against this sort of thing... but it _skirts_ them by never referring to "real" martial arts, and so they can do whatever they like. While pointing out that it's all B.S. cartoon fantasy. :)
Not sure about that necklace fam lmao 😂😂
You mean the headphone cable? LoL
@@EOMReacts naw the 1 you said you would've made lol

Forgot all about that.
The dubbed version is funny enough, but give it a rewatch in the original Cantonese sometime, even if you don't like subtitles. The inflection and timing makes the jokes hit even harder.
I totally agree. I'm really disappointed the editor purposely gave our guy the dub version.
The editor wanted to save himself a LOT more work on a tight schedule this week.
Another great Stephen Chow movie is Shaolin Soccer and it's also a great watch. Hope you get around to watching that one!
If you enjoyed this one, should definitely check out Journey to the West.
We will add it to the list

Among the best reacts,,Ever!!.-Ernie Moore Jr.
On the topic of subs vs dubs, I like both for different reasons. Subs are nice because it's the way the movie was meant to be, and I like hearing the different languages. Dubs are nice because sometimes I just don't feel like trying to both read the subtitles, and watch what's happening at the same time, or I'm just putting the movie on to listen to it in the background while doing other things.
Can you do a review of Meet Joe Black? You won't be disappointed.
It’s on his watchlist.
Also if you like martial arts movie watch the ip Man series with Donnie yen
Love Ip man
Hey man. Can you really blame the landlady for being an asshole when 95% of your tenants are not just one month, but multiple months behind on rent?
I would be an asshole as well.
This movie is hilarious. You have to watch Shaolin Soccer.
Def on the list.
This is yet another cinematic Kung Fu love letter from Hong Kong writer and director Stephen Chow. Love this filmmaker.
This movie isn't only an action movie, but a comedy and has an effective romantic subplot. The ever growing power escalation depicted, is very similar to what you'll see in Japanese Shounen magna/anime. The comedy is very cartoonish, yet not childish. The romance is effective and touching.
Fun Fact: In the opening scene, some kids are playing soccer. Then Stephen Chow steps in and stomps the ball. This is a nod to Stephen Chow's earlier film, Shaolin Soccer (2001).
More Juilliard Alumni Fact: In the opening scenes the Axe Gang can be seen doing a dance number reminiscent of West Side Story (1961), a musical in which two gangs fight for power over their territory.
Bruce Lee Tribute Fact: When the Landlady is seated between the Boss and his assistant, she faces the boss, and mimics the gestures Bruce Lee used while also facing a crime boss in Return of the Dragon. She wags her finger at him, then closes both fists, then just the right (while knuckles cracking can be heard), she jerks her head up, and the boss nods he understands, then she thumbs her nose, exactly like Bruce Lee.
These facts are brought to you by 🐊

21:11 If you can really fight to where you can hurt people or worse you might not want that on your conscience, because you not only hurt the person, you hurt their friends and family and others who care for that person. So you don't start the ripples of Pain and Sorrow ...practice tolerance--not fighting back-running if you can and even getting beaten can be better than the Life of Hurt you visit upon yourself by winning a battle to step into a never ending world of war from short sighted, short tempered people who don't care about fair they only care about getting back. And every victory or defeating them sparks another or others to step-in...remember these are usually A-holes and they act like nick-named Richards. And you end-up Pushed Hard Unbelievably Callous Kind-ed.-Ernie Moore Jr.
This is funny but it's even better in the subtitled version.
