Yellowstone breathed new life into Costner's career but now he's taking that energy and bailing to pursue his "passion project". He's turning his back on his responsibility to the show and to the fans, at least through Season 5 and then leave? I've always been a fan of Costner but I'm disappointed in him and I won't invest my time or energy in any of his future projects. The show could've worked without Costner, if it was done right. But with this abrupt departure, the writer's strike and the success of the spinoffs, they might just pull the show altogether and that sucks! (This is just my take on the situation)

Costner would have to shoot five episodes of material in one week putting a strain on everyone and himself. He wants out so he can devote all of his time to Horizon. My issue is he signed on for the duration of the show amd is putting everyone else out of work because of his shenanigans.

If you don't want to do television, don't sign the long-term contract and only have a limited-term contract for the first season and certainly don't make yourself a producer on said show that you don't want to do.

The entire premise of the series revolves around Kevin. He is the central theme, the hub from which all the other relationships rely upon.
If he leaves. We do as well
The central theme is not Costner but protecting the ranch against modernity. While losing Costner would be difficult, there are ways to continue servicing that theme without him.

I don’t believe this as not only is Kevin a producer on the show but he has a high respect for Sheridan as well. He states that in all of his interviews. I believe this is just a rumor. They also only shoot 4 months out of the year, so that they have 8 months of rest and to work on other projects.
The show will never be the same without Kevin .

Back then he was down to earth, just like most young actors. Then you become a huge star (dances with wolves) and that’s how it all starts. Let’s fast forward to Yellowstone.. although he is the star, all the other actors make the series what it is.

He is one of the producers, not going to leave.
True, he is a producer, meaning he has a financial investment the series. He also has some say, both as lead actor and producer, in the creative direction and integrity of the script writing. The series was interesting, entertaining and largely plausible the first 2 seasons. Each subsequent season has ventured further off the rails. That has coincidentally coincided with Sheridan developing at least 4 other series, Mayor of Kingstown and the multitude of Yellowstone spin offs. Costner deciding to leave for artistic integrity is his right. He has more $$ at stake than anyone except Sheridan but is still willing to bail. I applaud his artistic integrity, good luck to him.
Hopefully Sheridan, a very talented and creative mind, realizes the errors he made with Yellowstone and focuses more on his chosen core projects, less on quantity of projects, more on the quality of the project or projects that he feels are creatively most valuable to him.

It was, for all intents and purposes, "Dallas" moved North, and just as believable, even taking parts of it back to Texas.

I've been under the impression Yellowstone has always been coming to an end. I think the spin off series will take place as we have already seen 1883 and 1923. The series 6666 and I could see McCaughey and Kurt Russell coming in as relatives on Yellowstone or another spin off with Kelly, Rip and Jamie. I think Kevin is ready to do other things as well as Casey pursuing his music career.
Costner has contributed much to the Movie Industry. He's an admirable actor and did well for Yellowstone . How ever he chooses from here to for , He certainly has earned the right to boldly pursue his happiness.

It night but the last season turned out to be another telenovela...and I don't watch those.
The show is centered around John Dutton and is about the family legacy. This show is huge and made Kevin Costner an even richer man. You’d think he could persevere, put drama aside and make it work to finish the last season. Such a shame…I don’t see how the show could go on without him especially with how the last season ended.
With that being said, as far as the story lines go with both Beth and Jaime talking about a trip to the train station, it could backfire with the Governor caught in the middle - could be a way of him leaving the show...

After that divorce he still might need that 500,000 per episode kinda hard to replace that one.
This shows characters have done a great job and they could easily carry on without Costner. Sad but fine. Not worth losing the entire show. Unlike house of cards he is not the only loved character and it doesn’t revolve around only him.

The problem is Sheridan is getting greedy and doesn't seem to understand the limitations of the contract. It has been stated that Costner agreed to film Yellowstone for 65 days. He has fulfilled that obligation minus a week. Sheridan has moved the goalpost by doubling season 5 into 2 parts. When you double the workload you must have agreement with all parties.
IMHO this kerfuffle is merely fodder to kep the show in the headlines since part 2 of season 5 isn't even filming yet. Due to that fact there is no way they can have a spring/summer launch of Season 5 part 2. Costner is the Producer and lead actor in this show. Sheridan needs to put on his big boy pants and realize a newcomer like him cannot bully an accomplished and revered veteran actor like Costner.
Cole is more than capable of carrying this show. If it's axed because of one actor, it would be a shame.

The easiest answer to this is say goodbye to Kevin Costner and Yellowstone continues on without him.
If this does happen it would be able to continue as his son or Rip would keep it going and it would feed into the entire theme of family taking care of that land from generation to generation. I have always enjoyed Costner's films and I hope everything is ok with him. Sounds health related honestly.
His wife wanted him home more. They live in the LA area, I think. His children are younger, too. It was very surprising to me that she could not go out to the location. Great experience for their kids. It will most certainly affect the show.

Sheridan is getting too greedy. His sequels are becoming vulgar with too much sex & nudity. Leave something to the imagination. The Indian girl beaten, raped, & she ends up killing nuns. It certainly doesn’t help the catholic religion or the Indian reputation. Politicians beating hookers & sodomizing them is not family oriented, too graphic. True ranch life isn’t about nasty liaisons. Sheridan is disappointing. I am for Kevin Costner & don’t blame him if he leaves.
What politican sodomized anyone ? If you're referring to 1923 and Timothy Dalton's character Donald Whitfield he made the prostitute spank the other with his belt as he watched. But only after he showed her how to,and with how much force. Don't recall him, or anyother character ever sodomizing anyone in any of the 3 series? But if that's what is disturbing you about that episode maybe the whole Yellowstone trilogy isnt for you? I was more disgusted by the whole priest as bounty hunters and their disdain towards the Indians. But the facts are just that, and we've lost so much beautiful history and culture cause of it. Sadly humans are probably the most violent of all animals and even more disgusting is some enjoy inflicting that violence on others. At least other animals do it to survive. Some humans do it for pleasure. As Walker said when Casey was taking him to the train station. "Of all the animals on the planet we are truly the worst !"
Its a sad fact that we are so brutal towards eachother, and just cant evolve yet to remove that animalistic side of us being animals. I just hope it's not too late for us as a whole. Why can't we can learn to respect and admire eachother for our differences instead hating others or trying to change or eliminate them? But if we havent learned that yet , who's to say we can or ever will change ?
Costner could have requested less visibility on "Yellowstone" way before he directs another film, but it appears he wants what he wants which at his age will boomerang on him.
I’ve followed Kevin Costner for his movie history. My dedication will follow Costner, even tho I did like the storyline of Yellowstone. I hope the show continues thru the end of the show for the benefit of the the remainder of the series. Mr. Costner, you haven’t made many mistakes in the past, I say follow your heart.
Main characters die on shows all the time. Look at the walking dead! Yet the story continued. Why does Yellowstone have to end because John Dutton dies? The loyal fans of this show want the story to continue, with or without Kevin Costner. We deserve that.
I saw Kevin's conversation with Howard Stern. It may take a miracle to get Kevin back.
