Firebox Freestyle Field Test, Simple bushcraft.

- Took the new Freestyle out for a field test. Foraged some Stinging Nettles, cooked up some lunch. This model is a perfect size between the Firebox nano and the Original. It is part of a larger kit that can work from 3 panel ultra small stove to a large 8 panel fire pit. Personally I like this single set up for most things and the 6 panel fire pit when I want a small camp fire. There are hours worth of configurations/mods and ways to use this stove system, I get lost trying to figure them out and enjoy every minute. This is my favorite folding stove, probably what I would say the best bushcraft stove given the versatility of the full kit.

COOKED GREENS RECIPE: You can use wild greens such as nettles, dandelion, plantain, Sow Thistle, ducksfoot or lambs quarter etc Or/And add some garden greens such as spinach, shard, radish and turnip greens etc.
Gather greens, several handfuls per person, rinse prep.
Dice some onion and garlic
Sauté onions and garlic in butter or olive oil.
Add greens and cook till tender. salt pepper to taste.
Pull off heat, add splash of balsamic vinegar (it mellows bitterness)
Place greens on slice of crispy toast top with grated parmesan and romano cheese
Now Fry an egg or two, cook to your liking (runny will make the greens taste creamy!)
Eat hot, enjoy!
For a twist add in some toasted pine nuts, or cook up bacon set aside and use grease to fry greens. Add crumbled bacon as greens finish, top with egg or sliced bacon.

That brought back memories. Used to go to the woods with my grandad in Walws and have exactly that meal. Sometimes with a trout if we got lucky. Good times. thanks for sharing.
Right when he said "should have picked more greens" I was looking at the edible greens right behind his stove lol
ha ha ha, honestly while I was filming this I totally overlooked them until I was editing, had quite a laugh over it!
If I had known you would make lunch, I would have invited myself to it…….😉😘🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🥪 Firebox stoves work great.
This is a very nice area. Keep up the great content!
Great video!! Might have to get one of the Firebox
Good looking lunch. I would say a successful test of the Freestyle. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mark! I have had it out on a few fishing trips, but not filmed. Thought I better do a video before things dry up for the summer!
I just picked up a Freestyle. Great addition to my G2 5 👍
I like it a lot, great size right between the 5 and nano.
Nice video. I'll have to try cooking the nettles like that. Coulda done with less of the blatherin'. ;)
Stinging nettles are great. High in iron and other nutrients.
Печка хорошая, практичная, функциональная мне тоже такая нужна. Поставил лайк.
Nice vid! I line my xcase w/aluminum foil. It will keep it looking newer longer. I also process my wood as you did. I just do it at home and bring the 1/4 `rd portions w/me. Drizzle some hand sanitizer over the wood to start the fire...cheap and easy. Cut a piece of hardware cloth to fit the bottom of the burn chamber. Block the air openings at the bottom with your cut sticks and you can burn wood pellets no problem. Again, just drizzle the top of the pellets with hand sanitizer and you are good to go!
That forest looks like it's around here. I like the Firebox stove. We haven't been able to get it out with all the fire restrictions and dry conditions.
It is a pretty neat area, on the fringe between heavy forest and dry basalt scablands. I hear you on the fire restrictions, another week or two and all the green out here will be a tinder box!
That is an awesome little pan. Fun video
Thanks! Yes that little pan is top shelf! I am hoping to find another larger one for my camp box.
What brand is it?
@@johndharris73 I have not been able to find a makers mark on it. It is an older steel skillet, commonly called a "cowboy skillet". This one is much thicker than the common "cold handle" skillets. I found it at a 2nd hand market. It cooks great for its size!

Obrigado por assistir!
It's a good travel firebox stove.
Bring some wood pellets out with you sometime.
Bring a can of SPAM to cook. Easy to transport without spoilage.
I may have to try that, got lots of apple pellets. mmm SPAM, now I want Musubi!

What state do you live in? I would love to move in and enjoy the outdoors with you, hunting and BBQ are my favorites. I don't like California.
Beautiful scenery.
What birds are those?
It is indeed! the birds are Turkey Vultures I believe.

Wow.
Never heard of those. Interesting 😀.
What pan are you using on it?
Just an old steel skillet, no name brand. Works great!
I have a question are the fire box hard to clean?
I don't think they are. Most stick stoves will be a bit messy. I usually store them in a stuff sack or case and wash with mild soap and scotchbrite pad when really dirty.
you can eat stinging nettals?
Yes, pretty good. Taste like spinach, good sautéed like this, or steamed. A little balsamic vinegar makes them less bitter, salt pepper, parmesan... good eats. They are good chopped and added to a stew also.
