As a child in Kentucky, 7th grade history was Kentucky history. We learned about the 6 regions in that class. I was in 7th grade during the 1958/59 school year. That year, 7th grade students across the state created a scrap book about their county and its history. The schools involved in the project all sent their scrap books to Frankfort, the capitol of the Commonwealth. I often wonder what became of all that history researched and compiled by 7th grade students.
@@KentuckyHistoryChannel I am sure it would. We were sent out to find historic road side markers and copy the information to add to our scrap book as well as any county or town history we could find and document.
When you drive south from Cincinnati (Dad’s home town )to Lexington ( my home town ) there is a rural area midway which resembles the Knobs- though not officially part of
If your looking for interesting historical sites to visit, Fitchburg Furnace in Estill County is quite awesome. Of course I might be a little biased having grown up in this area.
I live in Harlan County, which is in the Eastern Coalfields region of Kentucky, and it is known well for coal mining. Just as much as places in the Bluegrass region, like Lexington and Louisville, are known well for horse farms.
What about Mt Edens that was in original Shelby County? By 1800 my 4th great Grandfather Robert Gray, wife Mary Yarbrough, and first son James Samuel were there. Robert was awarded land there for his Revolutionary war service in PA and VA. He is buried in Mt Edens. Son James advocated for his step-mother Mary Yarbrough Gray to receive Robert's RW pension. As a resident, I like to call it Jackson’s Questionable Purchase. If you are a Kentuckian who wants to feel like they live in Tennessee, the JQP is for you. Seriously, they’re probably about to ban books and drag shows and hold a trump rally around the Confederate statue on the court square up in here. Alabamans don’t even think Kentucky is in “the South”. We still have dry counties around here for f’s sake! Hey this might make a good start on a congressional map! Hell no, screw that, let’s make a district that goes from the JQP all the way to Frankfort, and yoke that city with the incompetence of Jamey Comer’s representation, as if they deserve it having nothing to do with breeding up the likes of that clown who has no business representing them. But yeah, good video on the regions of KY

Very true! We have some Harlan Co. history episodes coming soon!
Where can I find the videos on individual regions? I'd like to have my class each choose one to learn about and share with the class.
Those videos are in development. Glad they’re helping!
