CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Buck Laughlin (Fred Willard) and Trevor Beckwith (Jim Piddock) provide color commentary as the hound group is judged.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
After parodying the idiosyncrasies of community theater devotees in the mock documentary Waiting for Guffman, actor/director Christopher Guest returns with another semi-improvised comedy that casts a satirical gaze on the world of championship dog breeding and training. A television crew is on hand to document the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show, and competition is fierce among the canine devotees vying for top honors. Salesman Gerry Fleck (Eugene Levy), who is cursed with two left feet (literally), and his wife Cookie (Catherine O'Hara) have entered their Norwich terrier "Winky" in competition. Wealthy and neurotic Meg Swan (Parker Posey) and her husband Hamilton (Michael Hitchcock) are on hand with their Weimaraner "Beatrice," who they fear may have been traumatized by watching them have sex. Scott Donlan (John Michael Higgins) and his life partner Stefan Vanderhoof (Michael McKean) have brought their beloved Shih Tzu, "Miss Agnes." Trophy wife Sherri Ann Cabot (Jennifer Coolidge) and her close friend and trainer Christy Cummings (Jane Lynch) are hoping for a repeat victory for Sheri's poodle, "Rhapsody In White." And Harlan Pepper (Guest), who operates a store specializing in fly-fishing gear, has decided to stack his bloodhound "Hubert" up against the competition. In addition to Guest, Levy, O'Hara, and Posey, several other veterans of the Waiting for Guffman cast also appear in Best in Show, including Fred Willard, Bob Balaban, and Lewis Arquette.

Like the man commented, "Fred has the patent on characters that are comfortable in their stupidity."
Great way to put it.
But you buy it. He was that good.
He was so good because he'd been honing that act for decades. He used to do that shtick on a show in the 70s called Fernwood 2Night, which was a fake late night talk show, and he was the host's dimwitted but lovable sidekick. Absolute comedy genius
Bold strategy Cotton; let’s see how it plays out
Yes to the Fred Willard praise. HOWEVER, I became a fan forever of Jim Piddock after this movie. I swore he was an actual judge just asked to please tolerate and try to work with whatever Fred Willard said. He was an absolutely brilliant foil.
Fred Williard is brilliant but shines even more because of his costar in this secuence. Playing such an opposite energy is what makes it absolutely hillarious.
Yep, they have brilliant chemistry together.
"Ha ha ha. I'd get a kick out of it".
RIP Fred Willard :( The Best!
My favorite line Fred form this is "that is one happy fella" when he sees Jane Lynch win
Tiktok
RIP Fred, legend
Fred Willard filmed all of his scenes for this movie in one day. Mostly improvised. Just a brilliant comedic actor. RIP. One of the best 🙏🏼
"I'd hate to go out on a date with Judge (pause while he checks his notes) Edie Franklin and have her judge me"! LOL
yeah that'd be no fun
I have got a friend who owns dogs, loves dogs and hangs out in these circles. I gave him this movie to watch and he found it hilarious. However, he then passed it on to some of his acquaintances and they either could not see what was funny about it or felt insulted. Now, that I found funny.
Most show people do find it funny. 😂 When I first started showing, this movie did offend me a bit but now it's hilarious.
That's funny. Similarly, there's a story that Van Halen were shown Spinal Tap and also didn't get it. Another movie where Fred stole the scene when he was in it.
MrMmnngghh
"better not stand too close, people will think I'm part of the band, i'm joking of course, say, have you guys heard of a band out of Kansas called Four Jacks And A Jill?"

RIP Fred Willard. These scenes with the unsophisticated American paired with the proper British guy made me laugh every time.
Truly a legendary man who was having fun no matter the role. just look at the british chap try his hardest to hold his laughter when he talks about the jockey on that dog. f'n hilarious, truly sad to have lost that man, he was a huge influence on my personality, teaching me you dont have to be center stage to be the funniest mf' on the set. one of the best supporting comedy actors this generation.. RIP FRED WILLARD
Aa
Jim Piddock wasn't shown the lines Fred Willard would say, which enabled him to be surprised.
Look up the word "long-suffering" in the dictionary and you'll see the British guy's picture...
I really miss him. He was hysterical AND lovable, like the special uncle who's really sweet and fun at Indigenous Peoples Day. ❤❤❤
"That looks like a *fast dog* " never fails to make me laugh for some reason
Same.
"Is that faster than a greyhound?"
My favorite is "just trying to get a little playing time"
Fred was made for Christopher Guest films.
The moment that Fred Willard first appeared on screen was the moment that the comedy in Best In Show got turned up...to eleven. Fred, you’re a legend and we miss the hell out of you already.
Fred Willard should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this movie.
I've been saying this every since it came out!
Comedy gets no respect with the academy awards ...
@@melodiefrances3898 And comedy is the most difficult genre of all.
Agree. The acting is stunning
'I'm having some fun with you...'
Truer words were never spoken, Mr. Willard. RIP
Movie without Fred Willard: 7.5/10
Movie with Fred Willard: 9.5/10
One of the funniest movies in the world - and partly because of the genius that is Fred Willard. Rest In Peace.
If you haven't seen this whole movie, drop what you're doing and watch it.
^ This guy knows what's up
For real, that was like the first time I've ever smiled reading a CZcams comment
Also get your hands on the DVD and watch the deleted scenes. Two of my favorite scenes aren't even in the movie.
I agree 💯!!
Unless you're a surgeon or an air traffic controller
RIP Fred Willard. You were a legend and made us laugh our asses off.
Laughing through the tears. Rest in peace, Fred. So many laughs.
The brilliance of this movie (apart from the impromptu ad-libbing from the stellar cast), is that its premise is highlighting the manic craziness of the human owners (and Fred). The field judges and support staff of the show are treated with the highest respect and care and the "culture and lifestyle" is not being ridiculed at all. It is simply the template and foil against which the manic characters are shown to be living their not-so-stellar lives.
As a show dog owner, this movie is one of my favourites as it kindly lampoons many caricatures (including myself) that are present on the show circuit.
This entire movie was spectacular
Fred Willard's finest work!
This and Fernwood Tonight (which is the same character)
RIP Fred Willard , brought tons of laughs to many , Fly High & rest easy .. we missing one of the greatest
م
@Agent Fungus i couldnt believe it when i saw the posting .. did searches , & still couldnt believe it , yes hilarious comic dearly blessed
@Agent Fungus Ain't that the truth? He lived a very long and full life indeed.
Who's here after we lose a legend 🙏😭
I'm trying to find a clip where Fred Willard says, "And to think that in some countries these dogs are eaten".
Best comment on the movie
me too
It’s in the trailer. RIP Mr. Willard
It is a dog eat dog world
Gloria's "doggy dog world" sounded much nicer.
Had to watch this as soon as I heard he passed. RIP. What a brilliant comedic actor.
Me too. He made it look too easy.
H
Me too!!! RIP Fred Williard ❤️❤️❤️
The straight man deserved an oscar!
It was a great performance. It's hard to not want to go along with Fred being so fun and charming. To cleverly and efficiently be that uptight. It gives Fred Willard the opportunity to reload.
R.IP. Mr.Willard. You were a comedic genius.
Fred Willard’s off-color remarks and one-liners were devastating, but it was Jim Piddock’s subtle furtive looks and exasperation, while trying to maintain the dignity of the commentary that made this scene glorious.
RIP to the best in the business. Fred Willard was truly the “Best in Show”.
The best at dad jokes. So many laughs. RIP fred

R.I.P Fred, one of the best at deadpan comedy.
RIP Fred, thank you for all the laughs.
This is what happens when the President of the Westminster Kennel Club has a nephew that needs a gig. Fred Williard's character is like they went to a bar at the hotel and found the one guy there that was already drunk by 10AM.
Rest in peace to Fred Willard the legend!
RIP Fred
"I'll tell ya, if you wear an outfit like that in my neighborhood you'd better be a hotel doorman."
Buck Laughlin.
RIP Fred Willard and thanks for the laughs
Rest in Peace brother
RIP, Fred Willard. May you always wear a Sherlock Holmes hat and smoke a little pipe.
He'd get a kick outa that.
"I'd get a kick out of it", don't know why I find that so funny
If Oscar understood brilliantly improvised comedy, Willard would've taken it home for his work here. Just perfect.
Fred Willard is AMAZING at playing utterly oblivious doofuses! Doofeye? Doo-fussy? LOL Dimwits.
Scott Pasmore He combines stupidity with confidence in a hilarious mixture. And when he makes others around him uncomfortable with his cheerful maladroitness, he ascends to the level of genius.
RIP...Fred .....you were fantastic!!!!!!!!
You Were HYSTERICAL Fred. R.I.P
Fred Willard's hilarious.
RIP, Fred Willard. Brilliant. ❤️
RIP Fred Willard.
Rest in powerful peace Fred Willard 16 May 2020⚘❤⚘
Jim Piddock must've had the hardest time staying in character. Fred finally gets him around the 2 min mark
"woah" after testicular area lmao
RIP Mr. Willard. You gave me many laughs.
RIP Mr. Willard. Thanks for the many years of smiles, laughs, and knee slapping humor.
R.I.P Fred.... i loved everything you did.
Best in show where you are making all those comments... just hilarious!!
Anchorman... you killed it ! Lolol
Rest in peace, Fred.
Mr. Willard R.I.P. , Thank you for sharing your incredible gift of humor with the world
It's a perfect satire on Joe Garagiola when he used to broadcast the Westminster dog show.
JohnQ1127 My God, you're right. I've never seen the broadcast, but that's definitely Garagiola he's doing.
RIP Fred Willard. An absolute pro, consistently good in everything he was in.
RIP Fred Willard, you were truly a gem and one of the best things about this movie.
Love you Fred! Thank you for the laughs!! Rest my friend.
Love Fred Willard. So funny, and such a sweet person. Gonna miss him. Thanks Fred for making this a much better (and funnier) world. Sad to lose two such funny people -- Fred and Jerry Stiller -- in one week.
Here to honor Fred!
Today Fred Willard passed from our midst. Oh Fred! We loved you and will continue to watch such great moments!!
Rest in Peace Fred. A true original. Nobody did dead pan humor like you. So comfortable with his own unique style of comedy. A true legend.
Who's Frank? Sorry to hear he's gone.
Updated. Damn autocorrect.@@notanother7396
Rest In Peace Fred.
RIP Fred Willard :(
Fred Willard simply made this movie.
R.I.P Mr.Fred
Funny man. Rest In Peace, Fred.
Haa! I'm having some fun with ya here!
Rest in Comedy
Thank you, Mr. Willard.
Glad to see so much love for Fred Willard. Although I've always loved him, I honestly thought he was more of a cult favorite; his shtick was so strange and off the wall. Happy to see I was wrong. Such a genius.
Rest in peace Fred
Everyone should see this movie !! Fred Willard and the snooty British guy are hilarious together.
RIP to a king
I almost feel for Jim Piddock in this scene because he's clearly caught way off guard by Fred Willard's performance and is getting absolutely no help hahahaha
Fred Willard kills me
Rest in peace, Fred Willard. One of the funniest to ever do it.
RIP Fred Willard
Died today, but the great thing is while he was here he made this and more. Bravo.
This scene and the interaction between these two...I can watch it a million times !
Best mockumentary ever 😂
He was so good at playing the Midwestern cornball. Hilarious!
The bloodhound won Best in Show here in 2022. Fine work, Harlan.
Fred never disappointed.
RIP Genius and great comedian
Terrific writing -- not only is this scene divinely funny, they're also getting in good information about how dog shows work.
And on a sort of related note, I would *love* to have a Borzoi. What gorgeous dogs they are.
"How much weight do you think I could *bench press?* "
Those “birds” on Carnaby Street lol
RIP Fred, I 😍 you for making me laugh.
I literally can’t breathe when I watch this movie….😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Rip Fred Willard
I came here looking to watch this brilliant comedic genius. Man was he funny. Rest in peace in heaven and thank you so much.
RIP Fred. You gave us some great laughs, and you had a great and memorable career.
RIP, what a genius
RIP - True comedic genius. Thanks Fred.
Fred was great at playing both straight and funny! An unsung hero of comedy.
0:11 the second judge can’t hold in his laughter (he can feel it coming) and when he breaks after the line “around the uh...testicular area..” and Fred says “WOAH!” And gives that look like... *HOW ABOUT THAT?* ......LOLOL beautiful
This was always Fred Willard's best place for his comedic style, just random observations about anything happening.
Came straight to this clip when I learned of the great Fred Willards passing. One of his best moments. Rest in piece Fred. You always were Best in Show.
