Totally agree when RJ mentions Rimowa luggage - I just want robust, well made and good looking luggage, I don't need a collab with some hype brand at three times the price. And thank you for picking up on my comment around vertical collectors too!
Great discussions as always. RJ’s ‘don’t be lazy’ point is huge - many brands will not heed his advice, still full of hubris from 2020/21… ☠️
7:30 "...the connotation to the word [hype] has become almost as negative as the connotation of the word [woke]... that's kind of sad as it devalues the word ..."
Great episode as always. Thank you. I really enjoy the different topics.
The watch industry by and large is completely want based. In many cases, very expensive items that nobody really needs. I don't blame some of these brands for pulling out all the stops to keep the lights on. They may not all be for me, but I completely get it
Would be good to reintroduce in parallel a shorter format to review new watch releases with some macro pictures. Tbh this format is interesting but more for radio/audio hearing.
The word I would use for the TAG/Kith colab is ‘contrived’.
Even the completely coincidental ‘Talking Watches’ pre release advertisement was so on the nose it goes so far as being a bit cringey. And yet they all sold out. 🤷🏻♂️
Best episode. Well done guys! Keep these types of content and conversations going!
I’m with Lex. I am not feeling myself riding the hype-wave as I was in the previous few years.
The white Snoopy is actually really cool!
Again a very good and informative episode! Thank you.
great!!! I really like this format... discussions
Great conversation. The TAG HEUER Kith collaboration could have been great if it was priced sensibly instead of a cash grab. Such a shame. I keep rooting for Tag but this collab may be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Advice for the ages there: "just make a good and nice watch."
The wristwatch market is trending
These Kith/Tag also pretty much sold out instantly. Bold choices all around, but in such a limited number, it works
But did it ‘work’? We’ll see in a yr or two if they’ve grown their brand, attracted new customers - I’m dubious. As Lex said, the smarter play would have been no LE and a friendlier sub-$1000 price.
@@WestCoastAce27 Yup will take time. Looks like they have a partnership with Kith. Lots of TAG hoodies, shirts and such on the Kith website. Smart if it tranlastes to watch sales
Not a fan of the Kith. Not a fan of Tag Heuer lately. Having been an owner of 2 and yes the original F1 was part of it. This re-release is not for me overall and they can release what they like but my opinion is it doesn’t reflect well in the long run and this one will probably hurt the brand. Maybe. I’m not the pro though .
I want so badly to watch and enjoy these more, but cutting of each others sentences and speaking over one another is tough to listen to.
Good topics and points raised, but a lot of talking over one another.

I also think everyone involved from producer to consumer to watch journalists is exhausted by the constant release and clout gobbling, Its not fun anymore and none of the watches feel special anymore. Everything is a limited edition, everything is celebrating some occasion, every watch is available in 5 colours. This means that watch companies dont have company culture anymore, e.g. for some brands it used to be really special when they did a small batch of ONE variation of a standard model etc. Now every release is just nother watch this year, 5 mroe to come.
