I spray W-D40 and let it sit for a couple of min then wipe it clean. Plus it will lubricate the pole at the bottom and makes the door glide better too.

Never use WD-40 because it contains oil which never dries. After few weeks it will attract the dirt again and look blackish in color.

never use regular wd-40, dirt and dust sticks to it. you can use a silicone spray for it

This worked perfectly, and I didn't have anything left behind (previous commenter, Amelia, must of used too much soda). All other video's required products and trip to store. I can now open my door with a few fingers using products already in my home. Took about 20 minutes to do entire track, door open then closed. Note. I used wet rag to clean up excess dirt first. Thank you for video.

Genius idea. I have used hydrogen peroxide to clean many things. Did not think to use it with B.S. on the door track. Excellent because the frame is white. Peroxide helps with white things and one never needs bleach. Nice! Thanks for the video ❣

Sadly with the mood swings of mother nature where I live your method doesn't work for me. If I scrubbed with a dry wire brush first it might. Our weather goes from dry, windy, and dust flying everywhere to humid the next day. The dirt and dust gets really bad in the exterior tracks. I've used vinegar to soften it up but will try sprinkling baking soda first. I love the lifting power of the two combined. Hydrogen peroxide is great too.

Thank you for posting. My Florida sliding glass door tracks due to traffic and rain causes this type of. Condition. This is much better idea due to the small dogs that walk across the track to enter and Exit the Florida room they can breathe in if you use bleach or other types of cleaning chemical cleaners. Much safer.

A steam cleaner and a small shop vac is really effective for cleaning window sills. The steam gets into all the cracks and the shopvac picks up the dirt and water, use a brush to loosen the dirt if the track is particularly dirty.
Highly recommend getting a good steam cleaner it's a very useful and flexible tool and you can use less chemicals if you use steam.

after cleaning a good way to make your door slide smoothly is to take a candle and rub it over the tracks (top and bottom). Do this every 3 mints and your door will glide easily. do not use oils (like WD40) on tracks.

I have tried this before and it works great. However I use and old toothbrush to scrub after the baking soda and vinegar combo has settled. But I want to know how to remove the dirt that gathers on the sides of the sliding glass door! Agh.
