Zimbo Zimbo Zimbo Zimbo Zimbo...Echo and The Bunnymen...I was a deep fan of the band back in the 80's...And I am still love them...All my colours...Yes...
Back in the early Eighties,I was walking through a deserted shopping precinct early in the day,and suddenly this track came booming out of a record shop and echoed round the whole empty place. Absolutely magic, and I wasn't even into the Bunnymen then. So with that in mind I've come looking for this version. Thanks for sharing,Love Rich.
first heard this Burundi version on John Peel back in the early 80's... John announced them as Echo and the Burundimen... and I thought he'd pronounced Bunnymen badly... what a dick I was !!
nice one, mate, i get goosebumps whenever i hear this version. i was also there, and also remember that fucking long walk, which was because of a strike by bus drivers in the bristol and bath region. simple minds headlined the friday night, the bunnymen the saturday, and a big, long cowshed provided the arena; the bunnymen's encore began with the burundi drummers - about 40 of them - banging out the rhythm while they walked from the back of the arena - 20 on each side - up to the stage -
cont'd ...womad was the first time the burundis performed - live -outside of their own country. the burundi black single was a minor hit in the uk in 71/72, my sister bought it and i - 11 years old - used to play the b-side over and over; i've still got it, on the french barclay label. they recorded an album in paris, where joni mitchell got them in the studio to record "jungle line". london d.j. steve bicknell ran an occasional club night (95-99) alongside LOST, called "BURUNDI". marc23133
In the movie SUPERGIRL starring Helen Slater there is a rather nasty villain whose weapon of choice is a "Burundi Wand - pure unadulterated evil!" I've often wondered how those people would have reacted to this questionable isolated reference to their tribe - with gales of unrestrained belly laughs, perhaps?
@Solvinden I thought that till I heard the live version on here with the old footage of the band on tour..brilliant...it starts off with some shouting 'go on Will!' and he doesn't half listen! This Echo and the Burundimen version is good too :)
o way - is this the 1st womad? i was 17 i had to walk 20 miles to get there and back after. i had no money to get in the pav to see the bunnymen, but the b drummers blew us all away. it was all western (in my memory) atilla the stockbroker, pigpag n such, but when the b drummers started evryone run to hear

@MDJarv Totally agree with you! But, sadly, the album version is better than the live version.. But, still it's one of my Top-5 songs of all time..Take care! Lottie

This song reflects the feeling I get when I look at the album cover of 'Heaven Up Here'.

Gran canción del álbum "Heaven up here", de 1981. Y muy sugerente la letra de Ian McCulloch.
