In high school I had a 66 nova with a built 350, I thought I was the baddest thing around, used to put the new iRock Z 28‘s to shame, Chevelle‘s mustangs you name it. I had the fastest car in 3 high schools. Used to race at the strip occasionally on weekends.
Until one fateful day I came up at a stoplight with my girlfriend thinking I was king shit. I remember I thought it was a 65 Chevelle because of the body style but I was wrong. To this day I’m not sure if it was a belvedere or a fury because I saw was its tail lights. And I’m not saying that in a joking manner I’m serious. I had never got beat that bad in my life especially cruising on my streets around my house. It humbled me and then my best friend that was behind me said it was a Mopar. I waited 25 years after that day to get my first Mopar and I couldn’t be happier. Funny how things work out.

Car Life magazine, to my mind the best popular car magazine of the 1960's, considered the Dodge Dart GTS with the 340 to be the best balanced of the 60s Supercars, and this included Hemi powered Chargers. Nice to see this fine example. Thanks for the video.

A lot of folks didn't appreciate the fact that those cast iron exh manifolds were pretty much a sweet gift from the MoPar gods because essentially, they were headers, the bend on them was so mild I would put them up against any header system made back then.
They didn't look the part but they did the same job!

I enjoyed watching this, I had a 1968 dodge GTS 340 my self, mine was blue. It looked just like this one. At that time I used to party in that car, as I recall there was two air vent doors under the dash that could be opened and each one would hold three beer cans. I do not condone this action now, but we used to cool our beer using the wind chill factor, in just a few minutes warm beer was ice cold. Sorry I just had to tell.

My mom's aunt had this exact car back in the late 60s, but it had full wheels covers & thin stripe white wall tires. I barely remember in late 68(I was 3) we were all going somewhere in her car and my sightline was right at the little round side marker lights. Was a floor shift automatic 340 V-8, same color as here. One of my all time favorite Mopars!

My first car in 1973 when I was 17 was this car, Turquoise with a White stripe. The car had a lot of work done when I bought it and I added more. 4.30 posi-trac, L-60's in the rear, traction bars, a 4-speed Hemi transmission, Hurst super shifter, a lot of block work done. High rise intake with a 750 dual line double pumper Holly, aluminum flame sprayed headers. We street drag raced all the time and I kicked butt

It would also hold three 12 ounce cans of what ever you drank in the vents under the dash on both sides. Just pop the vent door open put three cans in close the vent door and drive. In fall the wind chill factor came in handy making cans cold very fast, and I love my Pepsi back then. Only problem with the stock car for me was it would not take a tire with a wider profile than a 70 series. I would have loved to put 60s on mine at the time, but we would have had to do some cutting and I didn't want to do that.

Great video! You actually captured the sweet sound it makes around 2,500. Crazy thing about those high-compression 340's is the harder you push it, the harder it pulls, and it'll sail right past 6,000. The 4-speeds were boss: In 2nd gear, they'd crush almost anything. But the magazine tests back then said that the automatic was the way to go. It compensated for the 340's lack of low-speed torque, without any significant loss of power.

I'd give a hundred dollars for the car, I used to drive my Dad's Old 67 Dodge Dart 3 on the tree and a big ole slant 6 in it, great gas mileage and power as well, although not a 340 or a Hemi!!!!!!!

Another great vid! My good friend Aaron has one of these but 4 door and a really nice Duster. Both have the 318 in them tho but he has done some work to them so they move quite nicely. Keep up the great vids!
