Far better than the terrible film adaptation the game was based on, Technos revitalised the Double Dragon franchise with a tournament fighter for the Neo Geo. As with most games on the platform, the graphics and sound are excellent, and the gameplay makes it a decent rival to the likes of Street Fighter II.
Having played around with it, the best strategy I found was to launch into an attack chain using rush and a light punch - if it connects, follow up with a flurry of blows, and if it doesn't, you should be able to back out of harms way.

@tsorf that was intended to be lousy cash grab, this game came after the movie so why it's much better, that one was like most videogame adaptions that didn't give respect to the franchise in favor of creative liberties

If you think about the success of Neo Geo going pass the SNES/Genesis all the way till the time of 32bit 3D system. is crazy consider all these things going against it.
- very little 3rd party support
- extremely expensive
- very little advertising
- pretty much mainly 2 two genre of games fighting and run n gun.
Its success is liken to a Forest Gump.
The Neo Geo AES could hardly be called successful considering how few people actually had one. The MVS arcade cabinet was a success sure and lasted a long time sure, but clearly the SNES and Genesis were more popular and successful during the 16-bit era.
Still got my AES boxed somewhere. Haven't used it in over 20 years lol.

This game was my introduction to fighting games through arcade. I will never forget the wonderful moments I spent playing it.
Duke and Shuko's music stages are so cool. The intro of the music of Shuko is very similar to Twin Peaks!!!

it's been almost 30 years since i first played this game at the arcades. and i never had it on home console =(
I know it's probably going to be difficult to impossible to happen, but imagine if there was a Double Dragon guest appearance in a future SNK game simply because they appeared on the Neo Geo. Like King of Fighters or Fatal Fury. Just imagine this DLC in KOF. Team Double Dragon: Billy, Jimmy, and maybe Marian. I think it would be a nice throwback to this game, plus thebsimple fact that we get to see Double Dragon in another fighting game besides this one (and the one based on the cartoon).
Just imagine Billy and Jimmy trading blows and strikes with the likes of Kyo, Iori, Terry, Ryo, etc.
SNK would've done Double Dragon more success if they didn't turn the game into some SUPER Street Fighter II X knockoff based on the crappy movie.

Game very good! It was part of my childhood. I was curious: I found the image and sound quality to be excellent. Which console were you playing on? What is the cable / connection? When you play on a TV do you get the same quality? I was impressed with the video running at 1080p 60fps. Thanks

Just a suggestion, when you play games like this, where we're all looking forward to seeing every character's assortment of moves, and you set it on extra easy and repeat the same moves over and over, all we see is you doing that to barely moving punching bags.

They turned a great beat-em-up into a Street Fighter rip off. It’s clear Billy’s just Ryu with a similar move set (hadouken, shoryuken, tatsumaki senpuukyaku)
Also, Billy and Jimmy already have their own signature moves as seen in the Double Dragon games.
A cyclone kick, a strong uppercut and a jumping knee bash.
They don't need to copy shoto fighters.
And one of Billy's victory pose is a rip off of Vega's in Super Street Fighter 2

Neo Geo games was way overpriced.That is why I hated Neo Geo and Its games.

I loved Neo Geo's games in the arcade, but the AES games were so overpriced it wasn't even funny., I get why they were expensive, since they used the same architecture as their arcade cabinets, but still

Great game, terrible movie.
The game is also terrible.
The Japanese versions of Double Dragon I, II & 3 should've been the ones developed by SNK as smash-hit reboots for the Neo•Geo MVS & AES.
But instead, the company in 1995 turned Technōs' arcade blockbuster into just another random and generic Street Fighter II clone, but also inspired by the live-action flop.
Seems like SNK didn't learn a lesson after seeing the horrendous Double Dragon V.🙄

I would pay for this if it was revised and enhanced but for some reason I feel if they did do it. It would be like street fighter and that's terrible.
