I don't know the first thing about jazz. I chanced upon the Pat Metheny Group in the music section of my local library about 35 years ago and have anticipated the release of new material ever since. I remember joking with a friend at the time I discovered his music that I suspect that, if there is a heaven, they pipe Pat Metheny into the waiting room while you're waiting to see if you can stay or not. This music just crams light and joy into my heart till it's fit to burst. I was very sad to hear of Lyle's passing. Beautiful music.
The Outro- on bass is by Linda May Han Oh. She is just incredible. I can't believe what she plays. it is improv at its most brilliant level, but some how it meshes perfectly with what Pat Metheny plays. I just wish there were some recordings of their live performances. When I first heard her, I thought I don't know how she can improv on top of Pat Metheny's improv, this is ridiculous madness.
Linda May Han Oh is my new favorite bass player she's brilliant on this recording as well as playing live.
On the other side Antonio Sanchez is taken to the same impov trance🤦♀
Par is more than a sound. He makes us walk along a beach, then all of a sudden you are taken up a mountain. He follows his own mind, and línea people because he offers himself to all, like his chords.
Brings a tear to my eyes....fantastic music! And condolences to all on the passing of Mr. Lyle Mays. Sad news indeed.
Sooo sad about Lyle. Was hoping a reunion at some point in my life. Thankful he shared his talents with us. Made my life a more enjoyable one. RIP Lyle.
me too.
Me three
breaks my heart
Sanchez is really happening on this album. Saw this group live a few years ago, and they were brilliant.
I also had the pleasure of seeing them and I'm so happy I did. Each performer is at the top of his/her game. Edit: Very proud of Aussie Linda too :)
Just give him the Grammy now.
Wonderful piece, wonderful groove, wonderful arrangement. Sublime. RIP Lyle.
That final bass ........omg
This is THE Metheny sound! I'm loving this music. Pat is now one of the most important jazz composers of all time alongside Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker et al
I would say he’s better than those you just mentioned because Pat’s tunes and compositions are much more memorable and numerous. Wayne Shorter has a bunch of classic high level memorable tunes but not as many.
Uplift Mofo Which masses are you talking about? Pat is one of the most well known and successful jazz musicians ever - it’s true that people who listen to pop and rock probably don’t know Pat but he still has an incredible large following sustained over a 40 year period of touring and recording.
Miles Davis as a composer ? Not in a million years. Great composores are Gershwin, Duke, Berlin, Porter....
@@Tonas80 what???
@@chrisc3777 Add George Benson to the list.
Been into Pat since 1981 when "As Falls...."
I was 14y and now at 53y, Pat along with Rush have been the soundtrack of my life.
Thank you Pat......Lyle, Danny, Paul........and all the other team members over the years....
Is Bobby Lyle somewhere around🎶🤔🎹
me too. I love Pat Metheny and Rush, jazz and rock. Music is the language of God
same with me: RUSH and PMG...

I been a fan of pat metheny since the 80 s everything he made is spiritual and mind blowing and takes you to a another world 🌎
Brings me back to a happier time in society. Thanks Pat!
dont it just tho
Don't worry good times lie ahead of us! :)
It's secret story season two; the presence of Antonio Sanchez on the drums changes all the same.
Yep... definitely!!
Pat has taken his compositions to the next phase. Jaco and Lyle would be proud. Wolfen.
That ending is incredible.
Truth....
Yep 👍👍👍
This is definitely more of the classic Pat Metheny sound. Love it
Fully agreed. Go Blue!
@@The_Frozen_1 Go Blue! So happy the album came out today
I love you Mr Metheny. I've loved you since college 1982. Are you going with Me had such an effect on me. I love you. Rest in Peace Mr Mays. I love you too.
I am in tears, but they are happy tears listening to this I feel like I've come home
Yes I think we all feel the same way! He's back to that wonderful sound again!
Letter From Home came back around ...
Truly amazing... Wow. Sound engineering, musicianship, interplay, composition - all are top notch.
Pat and Lyle have made an imprint on me as a House Music Composer. The Dj Polaris sound is Ethereal, and I thank you Pat for being my inspiration ❤!! You, Shirley Horn, Oregon, Angela Bofill and Constance Demby have shaped me and I am forever in your debt. I wept when Lyle passed. This album has his spirit on it!!!!
Metheny at his best! A great return to the PMG for sounds, atmospheres and arrangements. Piano remeber me the ONE and ONLY Lyle Mays, the soul of the group. Welcome back Pat. With love from Italy.
Can't wait for the release! Just give him the Grammy now. No need to wait. Seriously. Pat is a bad man.
Haha, yep!
ABSOLUTELY a Grammy!!!!!!
Totally
incredible bad man
Agreed...but nowdays they dont vote on talent...they vote to make the world " more diverse and inclusive"
definitive sound of metheny - the perfect soundtrack for when you are in 'that' zone
PM's compositions are ethereal and have always struck a deep emotional chord within me. Wide and Far continues that for me.
That PM feeling always defies description for me but the words wistful and inspired comes to mind whether it's this cut or from Secret Story, Still Life Talking or Letter from Home. I've had the great fortune to listen to him laying down tracks with Lyle many years ago when I worked at Power Station Studios here in NYC. I'd sit outside the studio or in the control room and hear history being made. He's still striking those chords for me. True Genius.
Excellent Bob and totally agree. Must have been amazing times at the Power Station.
Linda is on 🔥one of the best players selection combination
The strings throughout this album just makes it for me. It's perfect.
The Metheny we know and love is BACK!
This is THE sound that made me a PMG fan...love how fresh it sounds against the backdrop of popular noise today..if only his old compadre was here to enjoy it..RIP Lyle ❤🎶
I feel so lucky to have seen him on his latest tour play some of these songs with the new group! It was really an honor to hear his classics mixed in with this new direction.👏🖖
you hear one note you know is Metheny, such a legendary guitar player
Feb. 20: I shall fire one up, put the sun roof back and find an open lane with this in the cd player. Cant wait to feel young once more.
I am absolutely loving the PMG vibes that I am hearing here, this sounds very fresh, exciting and new but still has all of the qualities that we know and love. This album is shaping up to be a true classic and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ladies and gentlemen, Pat Metheny is back and better than ever!!!
Hes back?? Hes the hardest working musician constantly touring round the world with fresh young musicians I've never heard of but are obviously very talented
Well said
Gobsmacked! Like having clean, fresh air infused into me! I feel like a 25 year old again, rather than 56!
Classic Pat Metheny is back. I loved his new stuff but this is the kind of stuff that made me fall in love with his music.
Because he’s the musician America deserves...
From the intro i knew it will be classic Pat. 🙌
Unbelievable! That is why he is my all time favorite jazz musician! He’s just that good !
I often call him the greatest living artist! I think he's that good.
This sounds a lot like classic Pat Metheny Group!!
??
Más o menos Antonio sanchez 🚫
It is.. He's going back to his roots... 👏😊

@@Porschedude8 Yes, and that is good!
Don't get any better than this, PERIOD!!!
You are amazing as ever, Pat! I've been listening to your music since your first album came out. Thank you for your contribution to our healing.
I read that this album was performed and recorded unrehearsed- what a mind blower!
Pat is BACK! Oh, my God have I missed this sound.
I have been a fan of Pat's since about 1979... this latest ride home is great!
This is very nice, very much like those first great albums.
So much to love. The groove, the alternating time emphasis, and of course Pat and his band and his arrangements along with Alan Broadbent. Linda May laying it down with some serious bass groove at the end. YES!!!
there is so much going on here....millions of subtleties - someone siad..where's the big trumpet solo - I'm saying just listen...really listen!
am so happy i hook up sum speakers to this n blasting away under lock down Jamaica westmoreland
Did anyone pick up the bass clarinet in this one. not sure if it was meant to be so prevalent in the mix, but wow! Yet another great Pat Metheny album, can't wait to get the entire list to give it a full listen!
DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feels like the sun just came out.
I’ve listened to the 3 released tracks of this album , and it’s like finally coming home ! Love love love it .
Le plus grand musicien de jazz du 21ème siècle !
I have the same fellings. :-) PMG is coming home !!
While I understand that many are missing Lyle Mays Gwilym Simcock is a fantastic pianist and one of the most interesting new guys out there I find. I loved his work with Kizzy Crawford and I think he is perfect for Pats music.
Well-said, Markus.
The legend is back! Soulful mastery.
Help me! I cant stop listening to this!
I'M WITH YOU
We will have to go on knowing Lyle is gone. Always held out for one more PMG tour. Our memories shall keep us warm.
Oh yes, phenomenal. The Maestro is back indeed! These releases have been like unwrapping a bunch of gifts!
It is like a PMG Christmas present!
What a great piece - timeless groovy jazz---You tube stop mid song to play an advert. Yikes
Not normally crazy about orchestra backings on smaller group jazz sessions, but this being PM I needn't have worried: sounds fantastic.
Every space is filled with sound.
This track takes me back to Night Away - Metheny Melhdau Quartet ...Linda is full of emotional drama😆💪❤💯
Yeaaaahh another Methenyan MASTERPIECE !!!! 💚💚💚
Shoutout to WRTI in Philadelphia for turning me on to this.
Prepuchased! I've heard enough already to know this will be a classic album.
Funny, I was just listening to Alan Broadbent's Orchestral album, "Developing Story" ...and then I find his orchestrations here with Pat--what a great combination! Can't wait for this to drop!
That's the Pat Metheny I dig...
This track is the style that pat used to fill vast venues . On his still life tour which I attended people were scrambling for spare tickets. A young audience as I remember. Happy days. But all you fans know pat will move into further projects soon . That's his mystery . I think he has done this to repay his fans who love this type of music.
mix between PMG 90´ & Metheny/Mehldau Quartet & (Say the Brother´s Name from album I Can See Your House from Here) by John Scofield and Pat Metheny and others.
Absolutely great ... he´s done it again.
WOW! What a sound he produces. He was and still is one of the most unique and gifted talents in music. Do miss lyle and Steve with Pat.
I love that change of chords.
Again a beautiful song. I can't wait.. Strongly 20 february
Yes, indeed! Classic Metheny. Gorgeous arrangement.
So far I'm NOT disappointed
Reminds me The Way up compositions. the love for music tracends the tecnical. This is what i wanted.
Finally!! We are back in business, Brother 😜. Awesome. And next with Lyle pls.
He just gets better and better!
Sounds awesome! Can't wait to get the album!
Just great. It's always astounding how a guitar can sound so delicate and airy yet powerfully exciting at the same time. And I do like Lyle Mays very much but do not miss him here in any way.
Adore Lyle...but he's moved on and new man on board...Gwilym Simcock...had followed him here in UK...and you just knew he and Pat would hook up at some point in time...
Thanks Sir Pat Metheny for live whith us.
That ending!
The bass solo, great.
What a fantastic tune! Listening to it everyday - Love it!
New wine, old wine. Witch is the best ? 🤔 I just listen to the music!
CZcams algorithm led me here. Pat is always right!!!
The one, the Original PM. He' back home ...=))

Great song! Waiting for you in Minas Gerais, Brazil!
Fantastic composition!!!
What a terrible loss to the music world. Bless you Lyle!
Pat metheny esta sociedad actual no te merece. Para mi realmente tu musica es de otro mundo.
Yup! And here's Pat! 😍
Pochi punti fermi nei miei gusti musicali. Uno di questi è Pat Metheny. Grazie!
What a blessed start to 2020. We are save by Pat's music...Hope to hear the full album soon..LIKE 783. Linda have awesome vocals. Greetings from Malaysia to Linda. Me also from PJ ....

I pretty much like anything Pat does.
Wish list item; that PM and the Hollywood Orchestra perform this album on a tour, starting first with L.A. please.
Ahhhh....so wonderful.... pre-ordered can't wait for my CD and hitting the road to Abiquiue NM and wide open vistas ....bless from Flagstaff AZ Cuenca Ecuador and St Gallen Switzerland 🙏🦁🌺🌵🏵️🎷
Wes Montgomery was PM's idol.
Pat has the same type of distinctive, recognizable sound as did the iconic Mr. Montgomery.
Going to your show in Rio, I'm excited to see my favorite musician.
As tho Pat knew we would need something lovely to traverse a pandemic.
