Why in the hell do these vids have mainly some God Awful Euro Pop tracks? I know it's nothing to do with games (this comment) but i find the need to put some really shitty "music" in these vids as terribly annoying.

Сейчас мы переживаем новый взлет игр в жанре RTS, надеюсь до глубины души, что мы получим достойных наследников, которые с гордостью будут носить звание "Real Time Strategy"

Personally, I'm not a fan of strategy games where there's no cover and the gameplay is primarily a "rock, paper, scissors" format.
That's why I particularly enjoy Company of Heroes. Any unit in that game, can mostly kill any other unit, if positioned and controlled directly. Using cover and ambush tactics.
So, Supreme Commander.. I've never really managed to get into, or Homeworld... I feel like you just churn out as much as possible.. And then send it to the enemy and hopefully you can win with enough "Rock, Paper, Scissor" fights.
I see what you mean by rock, paper, scissors fights, but you can still beat rock with scissors in a lot of these games. Have you played Total war? Sure pikeman beat Cavarly, but if you attack correctly a lower number of cavalry can destroy a whole army of pikemans

in AOE (any version) and Starcraft you have to build directly on the battlefield, as opposed to rome tw and empire tw, where you control armies, but mainly you conquer regions and manage a nation. Although all four games i mentions are strategy i would say that AEO and Starwars, but also warcraft and Empire Earth and even the anno games are an other genre than the Total War games ( and also the games by Paradox interactive and the games of Sid Meier's Civilization). personally i think those two genre of strategy shouldn't be compared to each other. (of the other games i have little knowledge). Well that was my opinion.

Total War games are NOT RTS. Explanation:Dune 2000,Command and Conquer, Age of Empires, Starcraft/Warcraft, Rise of Nations, Empire Earth, Metal Fatigue, Company of Heroes/Warhammer 40.000 Dawn of War are distinguished by having resource gathering, base building, unit training and combat all in real time. In Total War games, only the battles are in real time, resource gathering base building and unit training are in the turn-based part. That makes Total War games Turn-Based Strategy+Real time TACTICS games. Summary: In real-time strategies, both the economy and the combat happen simultaneously, in real time tactics you only lead a certain amount of units available, either pre-defined by the game's scripts or accumulated during the turn-based part. P.S. Total War games are by no means bad because they're not RTS.

Master of Orion 2? It has tactical battles, diplomatic ways of winning and you have so much control (economic control over every planet, customizable warships, choosing your path in a technology tree). I have never played or even heard about another strategy game that has so much depth and control.

Some people may not consider this a real strategy game but world of tanks for pic is my number 1. To be honest it takes strategy to survive until the end of a battle so it's definently a strategy game
Supcom 2 and starcraft 2 shouldnt have been on that list imo. I'd replace the star craft with the first star craft and supcom 2 with sins of a solar empire: rebellion. I'd rank supcom 1 (forged alliance) in first. It's just such a demanding game. Good music and decent choices though.

I don't know about the casual gamer but Starcraft 2 is the only game that survived competitively. Starcraft BW should also be on the list as the quintessential strategy game that layed the foundation for all strategy games that came after in a lot of ways.
