My Mexican Fencepost is at least 12' tall. They are very fast and I've seen growth of 3-4' in one season if watered. The second mystery looks like a Mammilaria. Perhaps M. muehlenfordtii, but Bach's has so many plants they fail to identify. It's pretty common in Tucson for nurseries to fail to identify plants they have for sale. If you want to collect Ocotillo, B&B Cactus Farm offers a pink flowered version. The typical is orange, of course. The little "hairs" are called glochids. Try rubber cement or wax like is used to remove hair to remove glochids. Some santolinas can grow in Z6 reliably.

I repot my cactus "Fred" every spring and that's when he grows faster and flowers like crazy. So, repoting does need to happen if you want it to get big.

from what I understand (and granted, it's not a ton), it can and generally does take birds YEARS to get used to things like bird baths, houses, etc... I'm sure putting the house somewhere hidden and out of high traffic areas would help, but I think time is the main culprit (as usual, lol).(edit)... omg the metal garden art.... the giant bugs... when I have an outdoor garden, I wanna turn it into a macro "bugs life"! xD Robots is such a good movie... Aunt fanny, anyone?!?!?

Maybe the birds don’t know there’s a vacancy and it could be fixed with some simple advertising! Jk jk but I was blessed enough to watch two robins nest last spring, I learned that even looking at their nest from miles away when they’re not home spooks them so you may be onto something with the dogs, either way I hope you get some sweet baby birds in that birdhouse, how cute of your grandfather 😭❤️

It’s called “Garden Treasures 20-in H Yellow/Green Resin Complete Birdbath”. 🌻 It’s a huge sunflower with a little frog at the base. I still love my tiny ones, and always happy when they grow little fuzzy balls :P. Love the yard art too! You should add a bougainvillea to your cactus patch! They come in the most gorgeous pinks and purples, and they seem to do well with a dryer climate unlike some other tropicals.
Maybe you could hang a Bird Feeder near the bird houses to encourage birds to frequent the area more.

Regarding birds not moving into your bird house, I remember reading something along the lines of: you need to customise the bird house to the type of bird you want to attract. They each prefer a different size hole or shape of house and such. I'm not sure how correct this is but it may lead to some interesting research!

I know this video is a month old now, but it's important to mention that not all Aloe is safe to use for skin care, burns, or to eat! There are different varieties of Aloe Vera which isn't talked about much. Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller is both edible and used for skin care. Aloe Vera Chinensis is used to treat sun burn and is NOT EDIBLE.
