  • I want to give a very special thanks to Lauren for helping write the script for this role. Sometimes we go through creative dry spells, and she is a fantastic writer that came up with the idea for this role.
    She is for hire as well! Her business contact is LMscreenwriting@gmail.com.
    As some might know, I am a paraplegic from a spinal cord injury. Lauren and I both have some familiarity with mobility equipment and fittings, and she's an extremely creative writer - highly recommended!
    My paralysis story - • Story Time - My Paralysis
    What is ASMR? For most, it is a sensation best described as "tingles", usually in the head, neck and shoulders. It is often a pleasant reaction to a stimulus that is triggered by the sensation of touch, sound or reaction to light. Possibly other senses as well, although these seem to be the most common.
    My earliest memory of ASMR was in Elementary school when students would go in for a lice exam. A very gentle, soft spoken nurse would delicately run a comb through my hair and check my scalp and ears. I also have this reaction to nurses during other exams. Another common memory is hair-playing. Girls in grade school would sit in a row and you'd play with the girl's hair in front of you, and the one behind you would play with your hair. My experience with ASMR usually stems from an event of sensation that makes me feel safe and cared for, although there are a number of triggers.
    Some very common triggers: Blinking or light triggers, tapping sounds, mouth sounds, close up whispering, soft speaking, accents, hand movement, tracing with fingers, personal attention, latex glove sounds, skin rubbing sounds, massage, the sound of rain and thunder, Some are unintentional triggers such as watching someone receive a massage, a doctor's exam, a calm, gentle nurse or as abstract as crinkling paper.
    What are your triggers? I am always hopeful for feedback in the comments section. Although I may sometimes be slow to respond, I read every single comment and message. I'm always open to new ideas and want to provide the best ASMR I can to my lovelies, so please share if you're comfortable.

    The past few years, I've been very in touch with a disabled model fighting for inclusion and representation and she litterally opened my eyes to a new world! I feel so ashamed to have been so selfish, before, taking so many things for granted, not noticing if places or sidewalks or clothes, or anything in general was wheelchair user friendly. Yvette, I just watched your video where you explain to everybody what happened to you. I’m a 72-year-old woman and I just wanted to let you know that your ASMR channel has helped me greatly. After you did your wheelchair fitting video, I kind of suspected something because you don’t move around in your video’s. Certainly not an issue, especially knowing the reason. I did want to tell you about your wheelchair seat squeaking (as you called it) LOL I actually like the sound! Hope you don’t fix it!!
    You are an inspiration to many and knowing this doesn’t change a thing, it actually helps. You have helped many people and if that did not happen to you years ago, you may not be doing this today. Keep up the good work!❤️

    Your channel has demonstrated many times that you bring a signature brand of quality asmr videos, and in many different styles, one of which being these types of role plays that involve some kind of professional context. The ammount of details that you bring to these, both in terms of the related triggers, and your easy natural way of speaking about the trade in question, is a special key for the suspension of disbelief and believability ☝️. It makes it so much easier to project ourselves there in the moment, and this, is not only key to help in the effectiveness of the relaxation, but also, i believe literally helps to train some people's minds to associate proffessional work environments with places where one can let go and become stress free, to associate soothing states of being. There is no doubt that this has been the case for me and I know for a fact that my habit of watching your channel throughout the years has helped me in intense situations including fighting off panic attacks. You bring an extremily potent friendly and warm atmosphere to proffessional environments impeccably 👌 (6:09) and I can't tell you enough how refreshing it is to take this in 😌 (29:02). Bringing a human touch to these domains is quite frankly a pubic gift to the world (40:24), so thank you so very much 😄. Other honnorable mentions is how you often manage to create the most relaxing shirt crinckle sounds (19:56), (24:41), how you find ways to make the experience feel engaging and interactive (21:26), and how you seem genuinely focused and invested in your work (17:58) 😊👍

    Gotta tell ya - I seriously considered avoiding this video, as I was concerned about it being a bit triggering - even considering the talented artist behind it. As I'm sure you know, a fitting can be good, bad, frustrating, empowering, just plain weird or all of the above. But, you handled it in a pretty cool way. I actually liked the fact that it wasn't as glass smooth as some of your other videos - it was quite obviously somewhat closer to the heart. As you planned the video, were you concerned about it being triggering to make? No obligation to answer - just wondering. Keep it in up! :)

    • @YvetteASMR
      @YvetteASMR  Před 3 lety +6

      I wasn't hesitant to make the video and had a lot of input from another chair user on some of the terminology. I've had several chair fittings in my life and many have been less than desired. With any subject, I think I try to focus on consent and trying to avoid judgment, regardless of how someone would answer questions. But I don't consider the topic triggering anyone. We only know what we know and I guess I'm not aware of how this would harm someone. As a paraplegic, I don't understand the trigger. Not that I'm right, but I would hope someone would educate me on how that could negatively affect them and I could adjust if I felt it was appropriate. Is it the topic or fear of spinal injuries that is negative?

    • @a1nelson
      @a1nelson Před 3 lety +4

      @@YvetteASMR First and foremost, there was no harm. Please have no worries about that. You did a great job!
      I appreciate your reply. For my part, I've had a difficult time trying to summarize my many thoughts on the subject, but wanted to reply to you promptly, as to alleviate any possible misunderstandings.
      Thinking about my own identity, I'm a loving parent, a skilled professional, a good friend, a quiet, creative person, etc. Quadriplegic is on the list, but several lines down. That said, being a person with a disability is not something I'm uncomfortable with. Humanity is diverse. Disability isn't a bad thing - it's just a thing.
      Although my damaged body creates daily challenges, they're manageable. Almost invariably, uninformed people are source of real problems. And this is where the mental dissonance starts to creeps in for me. In order to truly understand, they would have to have had at least somewhat similar experiences. And, although I wouldn't undo my past, even if I could, I wouldn't wish what I went through on anyone else.
      So, there exists an inherent gap in understanding. As a result, there are always going to be people out there parking weird, blocking doors, saying stupid stuff and doing all the other crazy things that they do without the benefits of applying critical thinking.
      For reasons unclear to me, there seems to be an especially high concentration of ignorance among therapists who do seating assessments. During those assessments, incredibly, I've been yelled at "doing this to myself" (the SCI). Actually, the opposite is true - I was the innocent victim of a drunk driver. I've had a therapist get quite visibly annoyed that I was basically "unwilling" to transfer - and I'm not joking here - five feet away. Five inches is hard enough! To this day, I cannot figure out how they imagined that working. It just blows the mind. But, it wasn't an isolated incident. There are many more examples - far too numerous to list.
      I guess that, while I've loved my chairs, each in their own way, and see them as the great enablers that they are, the process of actually obtaining them is just so deeply frustrating, physically and mentally exhausting and even in the best of situations, requires careful review of every weakness, every limitation, every injury and every pain point - basically dredging up some of the worst parts of your life over and over every few years - all for the privilege of paying for something that costs more than a car yet contains fewer parts than a transistor radio.
      OK. Rant over. ;)
      Anyway, back to the video. I really _did enjoy it. TBH, based on previous experiences, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the whole time, but it ended up being supportive and chill right through to the end - complete with a smile. It actually made me smile involuntary. Definitely the best seating ever.
      I'm really glad you chose this topic and you certainly did it justice. I hope that explanation helps. If not, lmk. Thank you once again for your many gifts to the ASMR community.

    Also I'm not entirely sure how asmr works but could you use metal colour swatches- the clanging of them together, and if you can find/use wheelchair cushions? the wheelchair cushions when played around with would make similar sound to the sound I'm hearing through the video as you're moving?, also the zipper of the cushion cover ps what you did in this video is similar to when I've been assessed for new my wheelchairs
    ps sorry if I come off as a know it all, that wasn't my intention, I only mention these things from the times I've been measured up for wheelchairs i only suggested them as I thought they might be good to add but I'm definitely no asmr professional by any means

I went to a rehabilitation center and was fitted for my first rigid chair and it was soooo much more mobile and light! But gooosh, it took some serious arguing with the management to aquire! Like, seriously, the chair is like getting your freedom back and the simple consideration that "these are going to be my new legs to navigate life!"... Completely lost without serious legal representation... Sadly, not many have that type of representation when you're in the middle of adapting to a completely new, foreign lifestyle.

      I'm grateful to at least have my klunky chair, but ohhhhhh my goodness yes. I felt this comment in my bones. I hope you are able to get one that better suits your needs, Jamie.

      I’m so sorry we’ve all had to deal with this. At this point I basically just have to save the $1k+ to pay out of pocket for one. So many long drawn out fights we have to go through while disabled. It’s tiring and they probably bet on that

      Not that I'm aware of. At least none have told me. I do work closely in a community where many have biid, it's a judgeless group of people, no one is shamed for their preference or choices.
