I keep a spreadsheet of car maintenance - what we had done, when, what mileage, etc so that I can keep track. I had to get 4 new tires on my van this past December, 3 years after getting the last set of 4. In Dec 2020, I was out the door with 4 tires and oil change for $708. In Dec 2023, for the same thing it was $986. Price went up like 40%!!

That’s a fantastic idea!!! I need to do that as well…. I’ll see what I can create for a tracker.

💜💜💜 oh no!!! Thank goodness you made it to your destination though with your tire like that my friend. It stinks pulling from the ER fund but isn’t it great knowing you have the money to cover it and don’t have to add more debt!!! I love this system so much 😊💜💜💜

As you continue to budget, you will identify sinking funds to add based on your life experiences. In reality, there are very few expenses that are completely unpredictable. I’ve been budgeting for over a decade, so I now my emergency fund now serves as in income replacement fund in case I lose my job. I also have several sinking funds for other unpredictable, but expected expenses like car maintenance, car replacement, taxes, and what not. Since I have a long track record, I know that budgeting $50 a month towards car maintenance easily covers the vast majority of expenses that have ever come along. It tends to build up to around $2000 before I need to tap into it at all.
I think it’s perfectly fine to use the emergency fund for whatever you need to as you fine-tune your budget. Your focus is currently on debt payoff. As long as your emergency fund is there it will be preventing you from accumulating more debt. Winning!

I've found having a car fund separate from emergency works best for us... great video❤

I will have to increase the amount in this envelope quite a bit so I can be prepared for these expenses that are bound to come up.

I also blew a tire this week during a torrential downpour. Roads where flooded and I hit a curb. Only had to replace the 1 tire as the other 3 were good only cost me $133 for the 1 tire. But I own a small car. Happy anniversary. We are celebrating our 23rd anniversary on the 30th.

Yikes! I’m glad you’re ok! Water on the roads scare me so bad. I was hoping I only needed one tire too, but my hubby said it would have needed replaced soon anyway, so I had to get two.

Hi Mrs P, great check in. What a bummer about your tires, if it ain't one thing, it's another. I would have taken it from ur car maintenance sf, either way, it came from Savings, I'm glad u had the money available to not have to put it on a cc!

I would consider the tyres car maintenance but of course you had to use your emergency fund because car maintenance didn’t have enough. Maybe an indication that you need to up the car maintenance contributions?

Yes! Definitely…. Maybe I’ll make a bucket in my Ally account for that.

Great job on having such a low amount of transactions! If you ever think you’re not making progress, realize you really do low spend especially compared to most people

Thank you! I was a little hesitant about sharing it because it looked like a lot to me… but I know it’s so much better than a few years ago. At that point, a week would have filled up multiple pages.

Tires are very expensive. I shopped around and ended up purchasing mine from Sam’s Club with free tire rotations.

If I wasn’t so far from Sams, I would have done that too. We are 75 miles from the closest Sam’s Club.

Your tires are actually cheap. I had to replace ONE tire 2 years ago and it was $500 for just the one tire. Granted I have oversized tires on my Jeep Wrangler but it will cost me at least $2000 to replace all 4 when it comes up.

    • @BudgetWithMrsP
      @BudgetWithMrsP  Před 2 měsíci

Oh my…. I can’t even imagine how I would feel with that price tag. I guess I am thinking back in the good old days when I could have gotten 4 nice tires for $400.

Happy Juneteenth!!! I am curious about your camera set up. What do you use? How are you able to get the angle that you do? I currently film on my phone. Unfortunately, the quality is not as good as I would like.

I use my iPhone and I have a camera mount attached in the center of my table where the leaf fits in.
