Avoiding another Propane Fill Scam

    After getting scammed at a well know propane filling station, I headed to U-Haul in Point Loma for this months propane fill. This U-Haul location was honest and friendly, I highly recommend them.
    After struggling with a short power cord, I decided to make an extension cord. I made the extension cord modular so that it will be multi-purpose.

    My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
    Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

    Hi Scott! I found U-Haul to be the place to go for moving supply and trucks, storage units so it stands to reason that they would also be great with propane gas. Bacon yeah man Love it crispy!!!!! My favorite way is the million dollar bacon candied with brown sugar and baked !!!!! bleeding propane into the environment be shocked if California does not have a regulation on that practice. That could be a fire hazard if a spark, etc occurred. That is stupid as well as wasteful

    I cook for just myself and when I have leftover pasta sauce I spread some on tortillas and lightly dust them with oregano and italian seasoning then I drop mozzarella on top and put then in a hot fry pan for a couple of minutes on high after I lower the fire to low and cover the pan for a couple of more minutes. It does slightly char the bottoms but they are good. Anyway that's my tip for leftover sauce. Still digging your vids. Thanks and stay safe!

    I was a little shocked when I learned the one- and two-gallon propane tanks cost WAY more than the common 5-gallon ones. $65 to $150. I guess production is set up for larger ones and it's, oh, inconvenient to change the line over for small ones. Hey, maybe they'd be more popular if they weren't so damned expensive. Oh, and my go-to saute pan is only a 6-incher.

    I don't care how much money you have it is unacceptable for a company to rip off people. This is so rampant now. Poor customer service etc. It was always a COVID excuse, but I no longer accept that either especially from a large company. There are too many other options for anything you may need to have to put up with that. As a matter of fact customer service is my number one priority. I would pay more as long as I am treated with respect and not in a condescending manner. It is so difficult to get anything done these days. I do realize people have trouble getting employees, but yet other companies have no problem. This says to me, they are not willing to pay for good people so they do not get any. Small Mom and Pop businesses who work hard are having difficulties but they still know you have to please the customer. I would rather give them my business and help them. Corporate America couldn't care less about their customers.

    I've been avoiding San Diego because I heard, a while back, that they have been cracking down on van dwellers,
    That you'll be told that you need to go to a designated area to park overnight if you're caught

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s true. San Diego has decided to not allow any RV to park on a public street between 2 and 6 AM. You can get a permit that is supposed to allow RV street parking. But it costs about a dollar a day and you will need to have a physical address in the city and park near that address. Unfortunately the city has been issuing tickets to RVs that have that permit.

    A nice little Yelp review for both businesses would do just great. If people stay quiet about unfair treatment, how would they know to correct them? Likewise, businesses who go above and beyond for customers, would most definitely appreciate the accolades.

      Several years ago I worked for a small company that got several negative Yelp reviews a month. After every negative review, a salesperson from Yelp would call and explain that with a small payment, the bad review would be removed. My boss would make that payment and sure enough, immediately the review in question would disappear from Yelp.

    Regarding the propane issue...I drove a propane fueled van for grocery store deliveries back in the day. I remember the filling process being fairly complicated with lots of venting and hissing during the fill up. There may have been a reason he was venting the tank. I would have spoken to the attendant and if I didn't get a satisfactory answer, I would give management the opportunity to make it right. I wouldn't complain about a business on social media without all the info. Small businesses are struggling too. My thoughts for what they're worth.

Should not be bleeding out propane, only trapped air. The tanks have a shut off valve inside a tank that’ll automatically stop the machine when the tank is full. So if you saw propane gas spitting or exhausting from the tank, then he was definitely cheating you.

    In my experience, when it comes to filling propane, I have found that some outlets charge by weight, & some have a standard, set price for the tank size, so if you fill a partial tank they'll charge you for a total fill no matter how much is remaining in the tank.
    I also know that many businesses are franchised, like "Easy fill Dino farts," or whatever, may be the company name, but one branch may have different policies than another even if they are both "Dino Fart" brand outlets.
    .
    I am not saying that this is what happened, but is it possible he emptied the tank because they charged by tank size and was ensuring you got a full tank of fresh propane?
    I have made it a habit to always call & ask what the policy is before I get tanks refilled because if they charge for the tank size no matter how much they fill, I make sure the tank is almost empty before I have it filled at all, or go someplace else to top off partial tanks. Cheers

    the guy was just stupid to vent that propane before he filled the new gas in your little 2.5 Gal tank. He thought those gas in the tank need to be vented before the tank can be refilled. If not, you would not have the tank to be filled to max capacity. some station charge you surcharge then additional the gas they fill in your tank. My local 76 station charge me around $10.00 then the price of 2 gal, 3 gal or 4.5 gal they was able to fill in 5-gal tank. they charged me for the service and lost of propane during filling my tank. that is all. those propane service guy is just does not know what he was thinking he has to vent to fill up your propane tank.

    What's with the Bullbat power supply? I thought we were into Rockpals. I even bought one on your recommendation as I was so confused with the claims of so many power supplys, and with over-technical reviews on them that meant nothing to me. I am ever-so-happy with my Rockpals. Of course I am because I hardly ever use it (emergencies only just now).

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  Před 2 lety

      The Bullbat will run my refrigerator, the Rockpals will not.
      I use the Rockpals to charge my phone and iPad daily. I also use the solar panel whenever I can.
      The Bullbat is for emergencies.

      The Cherimoya I’m familiar with. But I’ve never heard of a cherimoya apple. If it’s grown local to you, it’s probably will taste much better than an apple grown and shipped across the country.

    So with stashing your propane canisters under the bed, don't you worry about leakage gassing you? I was under the impression that's why people always stashed them outside of their rigs? I'd like to feel confortable doing this as well, because those spray cans are expensive.
    Try Breyers chocolate ice cream -- you'll never-ever go back. The strawberry is amazing as well.

      I’m not worried at all about the propane storage. Take a look at one of my ventilation videos to see why.
      The green bottles scare me, though. They’ve leaked on me several times. Which is confusing until you find out the green bottles of propane don’t have safety valves like the LP tanks do.

    Not a pasta lover? Blasphomy Scott 🤣.. You may not be interested but I cook some mushrooms and onion well done, add peppers then the store-bought sauce and a little bit of sugar to lower the acidity. I like it a bit sweeter tbh too,, then add to taste hot pepper flakes to make it a little spicy, top with parmesan cheese and yummy! Good to see you as always Scott. Shame on the ripper offers. You got me with the ice-cream. I for sure thought you were going to say coffee first..Anyway, take care and stay safe till next time. PS, I am enjoying these more frequent little vlogs of yours..✌🚐💕
