I would request you to read Bhagavatam and Bhagvad Gita. You will come to know how this universe come into existence. No, other book can give you the exact process. There are spiritual books written by non-spiritualist. But the Bhagavatam and Bhagvad Gita are written by super spiritualist. I agree with you that Science cannot answer the creation of matter neither it can tell you what is matter. What is the illusion and how this illusion created, how this works and why we are so illusioned. These books are written 5000 years back.
May be you get another outlook for your perception. May you find some concepts like Maya and illusion same. Some temples are hiding the truth as you says church are doing. But some temples trying to remove the curtains. But very few visits them.
