Its a big thing in the uk buddy, the old diesel engines were just powerhouses and a huge part of my youth..now all we have are ugly diesel trains with zero character..the engines we had in the uk were fabulous looking beasts...its great that you liked this...i often watch bits about american trains and trucks...great stuff 👍
Thanks dude but I'm not really a trainspotter. Not in the sense that I stand by a line and take down numbers of passing locos. I'm a Basher...and 37's are my beasts. My hobby Is exstinct now as these beauties are all but gone. I don't see the point in trainspotting, but hanging out of the window of a Mk2 coach, right behind a 37 on full thrash with the wind and diesel fumes in yer mush.... Now that's heaven. Hellfire!
Yeah, I remember many times, walking in a drunken state accross the dana to go to the buttermarket at midnught and hearing a 37 pulling through!! mega stuff man.
Stumbled over The Dana, shouting abuse at the Prisoners, drunkenly heading home to Castlefields most weekends lol I even remember doing original conversion of Howard st warehouse aka Buttermarket. Goid old Shrewsbury 👍
My favourite engine EVER...prefer it in br blue with its yellow nose caps...but i just love the class 37....the 1st model train my dad bought me as a boy in 1978..😪
Love these beasts good video I miss going round Tinsley tmd/Bescot listening to them taking to each other on tick over 😆 good video of clagg I like 37s kicking shit out everywhere lol 😆
problems on the nearside six?! reminds me of when i was a kid and watching the clssic 37's and 47's pull out of bascot marshalling yard fully laden with allegros etc going to longbridge , little did i know i was watching the best days of the railways - todays stuff is all plastic boring efficient characterless crap !
I loved choaking on diesel fumes in the 80s 90s best times ever for British locomotives on freight as I could always hear a tractor coming from miles away as they was always loud and lively they was and still are one of the best loco's on British railways networks as there's still a good 100 of these bad boys still in existence either preserved or still active on network rail duties!!! Drs are selling some more off again plus a few choppers they will probably go to Harry needle the 37s to West Coast/ian Riley/Harry needle let's wait and see!!!😎
hahaha "thats the best clag i've ever seen COUGH COUGH COUGH" love it. 37712 was a very claggy machine towards the end of 2002, seem to remember she had turbo problems or a cracked exhaust or both.
You should've made the trip to Cairns in far North Queensland to witness the QR 1620 class EEs as they slogged it out on the the long Climb up Baron Gorge. The most amazing spectacle ever. Same engine as the Class 37 I believe.
@@oldsynth cool mate...i live by what used to be a container base in liverpool and frequently saw 37s..mostly 47s..the odd 25 and 29...but..when the grand national was staged we had deltics towing the racegoers...it was pure magic for me as a boy..👍
I do my mate...and it takes me right back to the late 70's...where i live in bootle..merseyside we had a containerbase that ferried cargo form the depot to the docks twice every day...it was mostly 47's..but we'd get the odd 25..31..even a hymek one day...but the 37 is my all time favourite...it looks like a train should..sweet man 👍
Wish I'd seen that run through Shrews, although I probably heard it! That's all you used to hear late at night there at one time, 37's on the avoiding loop past the abbey, Good days :)
@@oldsynth Never expected for you to respond lol, especially since most old channels tend to not respond to new comments! I'm glad you are still making the effort to respond to your viewers 13 years after you uploaded this video! Dedication at its max mate
The nearside six would be "A" bank my friend, black clag like that is usually a sign that the load regulator isnt set up quite right or turbo problems, another classic vid there Daz,a mate of mine e-mailed me this link, your getting quite a following with the nose ped brigade, lol
I don't know much about trains, sorry, but is 'clag' the train equivelent of a diesel car smoking when the driver accelerates hard? If that's true, do more modern locos have particulate filters the same as modern diesel cars do?
Clag = "Rollin Coal" to us here in the United States. I love this video and it's good to see someone else loves watching diesels do what they do best!

Brings me back to the days of loco hauled 37s pulling out of Inverness with great clag. Good to hear most tractors are still in mainline use!

Whenever i'd see a 37 on the track i'd always signal to the driver to wind it up, and more often than not they would :)
great vid! I can't resist an expletive or two myself when watching one of these beasties pulling off
Oh boy! 😂 It looks like one turbo wasn't spooling, maybe
Look at that beast and that flat. I think I've just mad a mess
Loves the thundering sound as it goes past.
Love it, hellfire!
The scheme this engine is wearing reminds me of the old Wisconsin Central livery

Great to see such a modern railway of 4-wheelers and 3-link chain couplers. They really did call it done with the Rocket lol.
the true power of a class 37 growler that noise awesome!!!!!
Cool video👍🏼. Damn does that thing burn filthy and inefficient! The Brits should just invest in a few older EMD SD40-2s, call it a day
Clag, thrash and tones!
Hellfire mate

My workplace is right next to a railway line, we do occasionally see a '37 used on line testing work, none on freight any more though
Nice! These locos rule!

that was a hell of a year 2002, shame i was only 6 XD
OMG this was filmed the day I was born!!!!!
Excellent!
Damn you, I was born in 1991
Filmed on my 9th birthday :D
this is what its all about, TOP VIDEO,
I wonder if that old girl is still running
Clag is similar to reving the bollocks!! off in a car or van. When you rev up a 37, the monster roars into action. Great piece.
If the car or van is diesel. Although an old petrol car could be claggy too on startup with black smoke.
What a beast think il watch it again. 10/10
@PrentonPimp Hellfire all the way. What a beast! Glad you like the vid mate. Daz
Hellfire indeed....beast!!

If your lucky, you might get a 70 leaving Kronospan,,, nowhere near as Claggy though.
just got into loco's they are beasts
@kenbrowne1947 Yeah, I asked him to give it some beans as he went....and he didn't dissapoint!

The 37 that thinks its a Black 5!!!! Awesome!
Jesus what a fucking monster superb catch though mate
@slendersausage I'd have thought given how black the smoke was, excess fuel rather than oil?
