- In today's video, we are checking out the Mighty Pro Plug by Nu-x. This is an amazing little device that is the ultimate tool for practice and recording for guitar/bass. It's a tiny device that plugs into your guitar, you load an app, and you configure the sounds you want with all sorts of amps/IRs/FX. Then you can record it directly over USB C or practice quietly with headphones. Many thanks to NUX for sending me this product to check out.

I’m a 70+ yo. What’s available on this little device & what it can do is the stuff of dreams when I started to play the guitar all those years/ decades ago. Thanks for a great demo!!!
The technology is evolving so much, it’s crazy!
@@ScottUhlMusic I remember the first effect I got back in the day...Electroharmonix Little Big Muff distortion....then a Cry Baby Wah pedal...good times :)
This is a really cool small device! Thanks for sharing. Liked! Keep going, love your videos. Best regards, Stefan
Excellent overview and deep dive into patches!
Right on, Scott! Thanks for all you do.
Thanks for watching man! 🤘
Great review and "How-To"! Really appreciate your explanations anddemos!
Congrats for this work !
Thank U very much ! I buy that today and i was lost but thanks to you I understand every effects, pedals etc…
Good job ;)
That is so cool. I can’t wait to get this. Keep up the great work Scott
Thanks Ric!
This is a cool little device! Thanks for another great video Scott!
Thanks! And yeah, it’s definitely impressive!
Loved this review ! Thanks for really digging into the interface and how to save user settings.
It’s such a cool device 🤘 thanks for watching
Very cool little device. Thanks for the review!
🤘🤘
Great video! Does look like an awesome product!
I'm a violinist using Helix and HX Stomp. I find your tutorials most helpful, 😊
Oh cool! I bet the violin sounds awesome with the helix stuff. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks, Scott. Your reviews on these types of products are VERY helpful for us part-time musicians that don't have a large budget to spend on music and recording gear.
Thanks Mike!
@Scott Uhl question because I have not seen it used this way but can you use the audio/ headphones out to go directly into a small speaker or input of a stereo/ boombox so you can jam out loud ?
can you check the question I asked above when you get a chance?@@ScottUhlMusic
@@allboutthemojo I haven’t seen a more reliable source give any reason why you shouldn’t, however it works fine for me if you get an adapter for the headphone jack to a standard size cable that plugs into your amp. I don’t remember the specifics of the cable sizes but it’s not difficult to figure out.
Thanks for the demo of this bad ass little unit very well done and I am going to order one today
Thanks! And enjoy
Love the riff at 8:30 (and the clean tone, too!)
Thanks! That’s one of mine 😊 Spiral Cell: “Discovery/Divergence”
Another great video Scott!!❤
Thank you!
Great video!
Love you gear reviews Scott!
Thank you 😊
Hi Scott
Thanks for sharing! Awesome (as always) review!
It seems a really cool gear.
#peace
Thanks!
Great Demo ... this is a cool device
Nice device, probably the best of its category. NUX is developing quite a few interesting and innovative products... their Cerberus is also dope.
Thanks for the video, btw... very informative and to the point.
Yeah they really do a good job with their products for sure! I like what they are doing
Very interesting device! Thanks, Scott!
Thanks for watching!
Scott - Great video! Thanks for all you do!!! I figured out what went wrong with the audio from your iPad playing on the iPad speakers... You actually need to create two connections between your tablet/phone/[whatever you are running the app on] and the Nux. The first connection uses Bluetooth as a data connection to transmit MIDI instructions. Secondly, you have to pair the Nux to your [phone] as an audio connection in order to get the sounds (Jam Tracks and/or other audio (Spotify, MP3, etc.)) from your phone to the Nux so that you hear them mixed with your guitar in order to play along using the headphones.
Nice, thanks for sharing this 🤘
Thanks for another awesome review.
Thanks Rick!
As, usual Scott...Awesome review which makes me want to buy another piece of gear!
Haha the gear pursuit never ends 😊
Really nice device, thanks for the reviews
Thanks!
Awesome versatile unit!
It definitely is 🤘
This is a really cool practice/recording device. It's like the spark amp without an actual speaker. But I'm sure your able to just use the headphone connection as a aux into any regular speaker.
Yup exactly, you definitely can do that
I like that you do budget friendly devises!
Thanks! Yeah, those seem to do better than the expensive stuff I review haha, so it works out!
This was an informative review, thanks!
Thanks for watching the video!
That's one hell of a device! I'm surprised of all the things you can do in that app, pretty cool!
I was definitely impressed!
Would be awesome to see a similar review of the positive grid spark 40, it's supposed to be the rolls royce of these modeling practice amps
It's an awesome device! Thanks!
🤘🤘🤘
really good vid great explanation thanks🤠
Glad you liked it!
Awesome video. I got the mighty plug but i didn't understand all the settings. This video helped a lot.
Kudos for the QR codes!
Thanks!
Great demo. I’ve always been impressed with NUX gear. I have an MFX10 and it’s a great multi effects pedal!
They make great stuff!
@@ScottUhlMusic They do indeed. I also have a NUX chorus pedal like a Boss single type only NUX vastly outdid Boss with their battery compartment design. So much easier than having to virtually take the thing apart ! 🙂
Thank You so much.
Your videos are so useful. As a beginner I can find everything I need to don’t lose time and money buy crab or to fancy things.
I wish you have not comments, likes and support!!!
Thank you!!!❤
Thank you! 😊
Good info thanks
Very nice design
One cool thing it does is you can jam with you tube music comes out of headphones same time as guitar through Bluetooth sounds really good
I just got one of these. Had a play for maybe an hour and I like it a lot.
I must say, your review is one of the best I've found.
Thanks for the patches - The settings I set up sounded quite average, so your patches will really help get me started as I begin to get my head around crafting my own.
I had the same issue with the backing tracks playing through the device speakers (my phone) and not the headphones. Guess I'll need to dig around to find out how to fix that.
Awesome! Glad you are enjoying it 👍 it’s really a great unit 🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic I've been having a lot of fun with the unit and your patches.
I sorted out the backing tracks issue. I needed to go to my phone's bluetooth settings and add/connect the MP3 as an audio playback device. Same as you'd do for a new set of bluetooth headphones. I guess the connection from the app to the MP3 is a separate connection/approval.
Thanks again.
Great review! 🙂
Thanks!
Nice. the poor quality of the reverbs (plus no gain adjustment) were the reason I ditched the Flamma. It's essential to have good reverbs with headphones to give the sensation of space. My Plug Pro should be here next week. really liked your SLO patch. Looking forward to trying it out.
I think i figured it out , thank you scott
🤘
I’m just learning but this seems like a worthwhile item to buy! I hope I win the NUX Mighty Plug Pro!
I did the drawing in my video this week already, but it’s definitely worth it to get one!
Man, the miniaturization of the gear needed to rock never ends!
Exactly!
lmao the Rock of approval made me laugh man great video thank you
Thank you!!
🤘
I need that Scott!!😁
You are now entered into the contest :)
Nice little unit for people just getting into home recording that doesn't have a bunch of plug-ins already.
Yup. It’s great for that!
I'm getting this Thursday... and your vid was the first one I came across. wow, instant sub!!! sooo informative!! a couple of questions: is there a place to find other Qr codes of other guitarists? (stupid question) but can i get your QR codes by putting my phone up to the screen? also any chance of doing a vid on how to record with this? step by step for some of us noobs? Man so glad i found you!!!
Glad you found it helpful 👍 and yes I believe if you scan the QR code it will for you and you will be able to download patches.
For recording, you just plug it into your computer via the cable and it should recognize it automatically. Look up some videos on whatever software or DAW you plan to record it with and set the input to the Mighty Plug and you should be good. Enjoy 👍
You certainly get some interesting products to review.
I’m definitely fortunate and happy to be doing this!
This is the thing I need to use for my practice on the go. Really a practical solution to my needs. Great video and review as always. More of these please.
Thanks! Yeah it’s a great little device
Hello @ScottUhlMusic,
It's been a year since this video has been published. I found your channel few month back and got ADDICTED on the content :D I actually did purchased the MPP on your recommendation. I am at the very beginning of my guitar playing journey and so far I utilise MPP for practice only. I am interested if MPP secured it's place in your gear bag.
Thank you for great content. MPP is not a single pace of hardware I consider purchasing after your awesome review. I wish you many successes.
All the best,
Patrick
Thank you Patrick! I appreciate that, and best of luck on your guitar journey 🤘🤘
@@ScottUhlMusic
Did Mighty Plug Pro secured its place in your gear bag? Do you reach for it at all these days?
I'm 60 and use it for rehearsal for my band or just playing along with live concerts on CZcams. Got it from my son's as a present 💝.
Only really big downside is that the jack makes enormous loud sounds when it disconnects especially by accidentally moving on my couch. Its such a hard noise when the jack gets moved.
Very good video. I appreciate how you go into significant detail, demonstrate the features, amp models etc and how organized everything is with chapters on the videos and lots of info and links in the description. Grade A work. Thank you! ...And a give away too?! I hope I win. 8^)
Thanks man! I appreciate it. I know what I like in other CZcams videos for tutorials and/or demos so I try to practice that in my videos. You are now entered into the contest 👍 best of luck!
Wow that seems nice.
It’s pretty sweet 🤘
Thanks
Thank you for review. Do you know if there any headphones impedance recommendations for this one?
I own the previous model Mighty Plug MP2, I can play and practice my electric guitar when my kid is sleeping without disturbing. Now I hope I can win this new model Pro.
I’ve heard this is a good upgrade from the original 😊 but that the original one is still great
The only thing missing from this device and software is the ability to record the guitar input along with the accompanying tracks or drum beats and save them to the device or Google Drive etc. That would be the ultimate riff catcher if it was so. It has mic in too so may as well record a vocal track at the same time. The ultimate idea catcher then.
This is a great device! I am curious of taking an aux to 1/4 adapter and run it to a wireless system, that way you can run it to a PA and use it live
You definitely could do that 👍 I would go into a direct box, but yeah you could do that
Although I have the device , I still don't know how to set myself a tone. Thank you for your sharing.
Glad to help 🤘
Scott,
I enjoy your content. Nice work.
Wondering if you would consider this unit, the MPP, comparable to the Mooer P1/P2 products.
I am really enjoying my NUX and have been using it into my daw, into two slave combos with the use of a lekato wireless personal monitor system or wired with a trs y adapter thing. I've also run it into a couple of 100w powered wedges which sounds great. I am using 2 wireless midi foot controllers a m-vave chocolate and a blueboard and an ex pedal.
Very budget friendly as I use a simple Zoom G1 as my bridge, everything is battery powered until you get to the power amps!
I'm assuming it's similar to the usability I see with a GTRS type of setup.
Anyhow Mightier Amp is the app you want for the NUX stuff.
I actually asked NUX when they were going to work on the bluetooth midi side of their native app, they told me to explore Mightier Amp. Lol.
I think they are pretty similar, but slightly different. Especially since the P2 has the pedal. I would just watch both videos and see which one you like more and which fits your setup the best 👍
Got the mighty plug 2 mighty upgrade to Pro now after watching cheers
Sweet! Thanks, and enjoy!
A very interesting concept, would love if it had a quarter inch out or could pair with a wireless reciever
All you need is an adapter or cable for 3.5mm to 1/4”. That’s actually how I recorded this into my audio interface 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic Awesome!
Some nice patches there. Quick question I just got mine. Do I have to overwrite the existing ones that came on it to use these? Or can I creat another bank of presets? Also is there a way to play directly into my PC and hear it through my speakers using Mighty Editor? I cant seem to get that to work
Nice! My complaints about it: 1 I wish to see some more UI like actually viewing the amps or effects when I pick them. 2 . There is no time division settings for delay??? like 1/4 1/8 3/8 etc... and also cannot set the tempo only by tapping, but I cannot even see what I tapped...weird...3, and I wish the drum loops were just a sightly bit more human like having fills... 4 also why it looks different for the mp2 device???
I purchased the the predecessor to this just a few months ago. Im not sure if this model was out yet, I think it hadnt been released yet?
Anyways, I am now really struggling to not buy the newer model.
For now, I think that ill exercise some restraint and just go with the Mighty Plug, as its still a fantastic little piece of gear. Maybe if I can line up someone to buy it, then ill do the upgrade. But, Im also saying this without watching all of your in-depth review, yet.
Haha yeah I feel like I always buy something right before the new model comes out 🤣
Very cool piece of gear, nicely presented! I‘ve already got the Fender thingy that does sort-of similar stuff, but it has crippled functionality by comparison. And my Mooer Prime 1 is great in terms of flexibility (also for use with acoustic guitars and bass!), but I oddly prefer the tone of the Fender, which seems to be a tad more responsive/direct and have better upper-range frequencies (though poorer sampling rates than than Mooer). Enter the Nux: Can‘t wait to get my hands on one and compare it with the other two, for its functionality wins hands-down, also for online guitar playing while singing/speaking at the same time! Would love to win one, especially because none are available here as of yet.
Yeah both this and the P1 are incredible pieces of gear!
Did you end up getting one? Im curious how to like it compared to the P1
@@ArizonaMMJ Yes, I did get the Nux. Purely in terms of tone, I found it a bit lacking, at least out of the box. In that sense, it didn‘t impress me any more than the P1, and less than the Fender. However, you may take this with a grain of salt, for I have spent nearly zero time with trying to dial in my tones on any of these devices, due to twin baby boys keeping me busy all day and up all night. ;-) No time for gear stuff or even rehearsing, let alone gigging. So don‘t hold your breath for more from me on this topic. Best to order up a couple of these units, yourself, and see how you like them, and which one gets sent back.
did you figure out how to get the backing track to play through the headphones instead of the ipad? its driving me nuts@@ScottUhlMusic
Hi, I have just bought it and looking forward to have a lot of fun:) Its great how you showed how it is works:) Thanks. Just one question - what about monitors, I mean not just headphone...but can I play strait to monitors?.....Thanks:)) Martin
Yeah you can plug into monitors 👍
Thanks for the demo!
Let me ask ... What kind of iPad did you use in this video? With Apple Lightning or USB-C connector? If USB-C, did you have any issues with connection in time when MPP wasn't fully charged? (e.g. after 30minutes of playing or more). I have this issue on iPad with lightning port and workaround is not as straightforward as it should be.
My iPad during this video was lighting 👍
Hi! Congrats for the channel!
It’s possible to use without headphones? Listen through the iPad/phone?
Thanks! And I do not believe so
this looks like technology is making recording a LOT easier, dare I say, as easy as hitting record on a Tape Cassette machine !
Great device and great review. One question that I'm still not 100% clear about: If I find a CZcams backing track that I like, for example, will I be able to stream the audio from that CZcams video to the Mighty Plug Pro and play along in real-time--without trying to import and create a custom backing track on the Mighty Plug itself?
I’m not sure about that tbh
Yes, you can pair the device with your phone and use it as audio output device. So all CZcams/Spotify audio will be sent to the Nux.
Great video and cool presets! So, the backing tracks and drum loops are heard through your iPhone/iPad and not the Plug Pro’s headphones? Kind of defeats the purpose. Is it able to play CZcams guitar backing tracks/videos through the app and headphones? Thanks for the great review!
Yeah that is a little bizarre that it does it that way. Hopefully they update it
@@ScottUhlMusic Maybe it has something to do with copyrights and music being used as backing tracks being recorded via the usb or headphones. Although I think the Boss Pocket GT is able to listen to tracks via its headphones out.
I paid €99 at Thomann for mine plus €15 postage. I may edit this comment as I go along. The pc app doesn't work for me. I downloaded it yesterday. I updated the firmware with the pc alright but when I went about trying to use mighty editor on the pc it said to plug in the device even though it was already plugged in. I read somewhere on the nux website that a neck (I think it said neck) single coil pickup is best for the acoustic sound. I think that's probably what they were going for in no. 7 on yours. Like you, I have 2 humbuckers and no coil split so I won't get so close to an acoustic sound.
Interesting. It works really well for my mac
Hi Scott!
👋
confused about how I get in audio from PC/phone for youtube lessons - the fender micro has a bluetooth in - does it do the same. As I typically use my computer for youtube lessons
You want to go computer audio to the plug? Not the other way around?
hallo my friend .very nice video. i'm playing a greek instrument named bouzouki and i dont need the amp simulation of nux i just need the eq and the reverbs. can it play with the signal thru i mean the clear signal of my active pick up ? thank you.
If you just need eq and reverb, that should be fine with this 👍
I wonder if there is a way of changing patches via blue tooth f/s
I don’t believe so, but that would be a cool update and would allow it to be used live
Great vid - btw mistakes really add to the authenticity
Hey scott got a question i got my irs fron own hammer to import to my helix edit , do i have to match downloaded presets with them or are they all together when you get a pack from own hammer do you know
That I honestly don’t know. Are you talking about doing that on the helix or on the mighty plug? You need the computer software for both to import them
thanks for the giveaway Scott, what problems have u had with IEM with mics? im thinking of getting one cause my life got louder but i like using studio headphones.
IEM with mics?
@@ScottUhlMusic In Ear Monitors with a Microphone
Oh gotcha. My understanding is you are supposed to get one without a microphone for live, but for studio stuff I’m sure it’s fine
I just got mine today. Just wished that I could use wireless earbuds connected to my phone
Do they make something similar for acoustic guitars ? Or is just for electrics ? Would it be useful for a jazz guitar?
I’m not sure, but I think it would be useful for any style 👍
I'm 73 been playing from16 and still going, you can't even believe the sounds you can get from something so small, I will definitely get one of these so I can play in bed with phones after my upcoming operation!!
How to pair this to a wireless headphones set? I can't do it and i can't find anyone that explains it... because it has 2 bluetooth channels, one the the phone app and other to audio... but the app is really bad in that regard of pairing with other devices... please anyone???
You cannot use Bluetooth audio for live audio because of latency. I really need to make a video about this because many people mention this in the comments
Hi. Is it possible to combine Nux app with other music Android apps simultaneously (Guitar Pro, iRealPro, sølo...)? Thanks
Not that I know of
can it be used as a normal sound interface, like can it to the guitar, then connect the guitar to my computer and use other virtual amps than the computer app offered by NUX?
like amplitube or bias fx for example ?
I don’t believe so. I believe you can just plug it into the computer and use it by itself with the Plug
Can You connect it with bluetooth headphones? Great video!
Thanks! And Bluetooth will cause latency so you do not want that
Cool device. Been a subscriber for a while, have used many of your suggestions.
Great demo, would be nice to win (because I should practice more 🙂)
Thanks! The contest ended today and I did the drawing in my video I just released, but it’s still a great unit!
Could you run the headphone signal to an amp if you want others to hear what you're doing?
I would run it into a speaker instead since you don’t want to go amp modeling into an amp
dude i think i fell in love this 8:28 riff. What is this riff or song?
Thank you! It’s one of mine actually: czcams.com/video/5JEUFFHF0oM/video.html
@@ScottUhlMusic thanksss you are awesome !!!
Your reviews on things like this are much appreciated. I've been eyeing the Waza-Air for a few months now looking for the cheapest used pair I can find. Maybe I'll go for these instead.🤷
Yeah the Waza Air is an interesting idea, but a bit high priced for me. The other cheaper headphone amps I’ve used were decent enough to work out, but not perfect. I think the Mighty Plug Pro is the best one as far as sound and value for money
Another great pickle 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Hey can u use just that plug that comes with a nux mighty air?
The wireless? I’m sure you could, but I don’t own one
How does it compare with the fender mustang micro?
I haven’t used the fender one, so I don’t know
Hello A question fender plug is also okay?
I haven’t used that one before
