- Hi guys and welcome to my RAF fitness test video. Today I done my actual RAF Fitness test and I will be talking about the day, what I learned, what I done differently and most importantly whether I passed or failed. Hope this video is helpful. See you in the next one.
Things I forgot
Times:
Run time: 11 min 02 sec
Push ups: 20 in 17 seconds.
Sit ups 35 in 50 seconds.
If you are going for regiment gunner obviously keep in mind they expect you to do better than the 'minimum' standards so please keep that in mind.
Also I meant people mainly FAIL on the sit-ups not pass.
Thanks and well done mate! I had my test this morning and passed. Credit to you for keeping us all motivated to keep going!
Thank you and I appreciate the comment but I need no credit not even a single drop, as I just spoke about my personal journey. Everything you accomplished came from belief in yourself and faith that you persevere. Well done, amazing work. Keep it going onwards and upwards.
That's actually hilarious that people opted to not do the warm up, then tried to use that an excuse why they failed as if it was the instructor's fault 😂.
My fitness test went a bit different ref. the push-ups and sit-ups. The way mine was done was that I had to go straight from the push-ups almost instantly into the sit-ups. So much so that the girl actually said to me to do the press-ups as quickly as I could so I could use the remainder of the minute for rest before the sit-ups.
And of course, big congratulations! 😁
Yeah I know I was like what? Clearly those people shouldn't be applying for the RAF XD Oh really? Like I said every PT might be different so bear that in mind. Did you pass in the end however? And thanks :)
Well done mate, followed the journey from the start and you’ve motivated me to stay focused and pass mine 👍
Ah thanks for sticking around! I'm so glad you have found it helpful and thank you for being part of the reason I passed also :) do keep us informed about how your application goes will be great to hear.
I’ve been following your journey. My application process took just under 3 years due to them loosing my application, and breaking my wrist 2 weeks before I was supposed to join (2nd of Feb 2023). I have just started my 5th week of basic training (started on the 5th of feb 2024), and enjoying it at the moment, but it is tough. Keep going, it will be worth it in the end💪🏼
Damn that's crazy! Such a great story to tell especially if you kept on trucking through never giving up please keep us informed on how it is going. Do you have any tips for people going in? Things that maybe you would of prepared for or done differently?
I would definitely recommend doing some weighted runs with a backpack of some sorts (10kg+). I didn’t so this, and after some of the weighted runs, found myself with very painful knees. My body has now got used to carrying weight so is fine now, but looking back, I would’ve done that more before joining. Also I would recommend getting a good iron straight away. Cheap ones won’t last. The corporals on my intake suggest the ‘Russel Hobbs PowerSteam’ that’s about all I can think of.
I’m in the raf now mate, just stumbled across your channel, basic training isn’t too hard there’s three groups you get put in based on your running ability so if you’re relatively un fit you’ll be in group 3 and it’s a piece of piss in that group. Just make sure you’re good at ironing and it will make the 10 weeks a lot easier.
Ah I never knew that and fortunately my cadet background definitely ironing and bulling your shoes but it's been so long since I've done it! XD have you been in the RAF long?
Brilliant video Jake, i for one would like to hear your progression into the RAF. Well done m8 and keep on going.👍
Thanks and that's great to know I'll defo keep that in mind. I hope you are doing well :)
Congrats mate! Id definitely say I regretted practicing mine at 14, found it much easier to start at 13 then transition to higher speeds
Thanks! And yeah again its personal. Some people find 14 piss easy for me it wasn't until I trained for around 3 weeks straight on that speed. Did you pass yours or have you yet to take it?
@@JakeGchannel I passed it in 2015 but had to pull out due to fitness issues, luckily I was just working at a football club and got knowledge from physios and strength and conditioning coaches and it's solved all my issues that NHS couldnt help with, once I'm 100% sure I can pass it I will reapply, which I'm confident will happen
@@j8j8j8j8j8j8j8j813 Yeah you'll smash it easy, when are you looking at applying again?
@@JakeGchannel Funnily enough I did my first road run for about 9 years Monday and did 6.35km and recovered great so I'm actually going to the gym to do a mock test and if I can do 11:11 I'll apply tomorrow! I know I could get fit whilst waiting for everything to go through but I want to be sure I can handle the load as it's been a long 9 years
@@j8j8j8j8j8j8j8j813 Yeah understand able just don't do a me and think I need to hit the 2.4km in 11.11 before I apply because it took my almost a year to get there XD
Well done mate.so happy for you. Once again great vid. Keep em coming. Got my daa on the 29th after only applying 2 weeks ago.
Thank you! And great! I hope it all goes well for you, what role are you hoping to get?
Please carry on making videos buddy. I would love to know how you’re getting on at basic. Best of luck, soldier 🫡
I probably will as I've loved every second doing them! Thanks and hope you are well :)
I found it was easier for me to start off faster, so when I really got tired and needed to slow down at the end, I could, and still had time to pass - which is opposite to the bleep test which is when you get tired the bleeps get faster 🤣
@@ibrahimarshad1732 yeah exactly it’s the only benefit between the two runs 😄 I’ve got to do the fitness test again next Tuesday so that’ll be my 4th fitness test in less than 6 months 😄
@@JakeGchannel Keep going mate - never give up! I have never given up on my running, and the RAF have been the reason I love running now 😅
@@ibrahimarshad1732 yup had my first PT session and it’s a much different approach than phase 1 much more relaxed and enjoyable. In a nutshell yes! Don’t ever give up even if your feet will fall off 😂
Well done! Chuffed for you mate!
Thanks! I hope you application is going well as well :)
Well done mate, got my shine officer interview on Friday, cant wait to get it out the way all the prep is so stressful ahaha
Oh what role are you applying for? I am waiting for my SHINE date
@@steverobinson3214WSOp mate
@@steverobinson3214WSOp
Oh wow that sounds cool! Standard application was stressful enough can't imagine what the officer one is like XD
@@JakeGchannelit’s the amount of detail u have to go into and all the current affairs 🤣just very long
Got my CBAT Thursday bro love your vids. Trying for Wsop
Ah that's great! Up and onwards you go and thank you glad you have found them enjoyable/helpful do keep us informed on how you get on.
Quite the coincidence, I passed my physical fitness test around 2 weeks ago too
Just got a 1-1 interview this week, but it's possible I might be on the same basic training group
Excellent content btw, a lot of great points that I absolutely agree with 👍
Oh really?! That's great I assume you passed the security questionnaire of is that still in the process? Yeah defo let us know the dates you have got for basic training.
@@JakeGchannel well I assume that I've passed the security assessment, I sent it off about 10 days ago and can't think of any reason I wouldn't have haha
I'll send you a message on here when I get my basic training date, should be some time next week
@@jordan_ashe Oh ok yeah I had to give my bank details today followed by a survey which asked for my experience of the security questionnaire so I assume I passed also. Hopefully it all comes through it would be great if I could get into basic in April that would be perfect but I'll have to hope and pray. Yeah defo do would love to hear about it.
@@JakeGchannel hey, been a while, I finally have everything sorted, i had to re-do some of my application because it had been over 12 months, but I'm being told late April if it's not fully booked, or I might be into May.. hopefully sooner rather than later
@@jordan_ashe that’ll be great as my basic is on the end on April so either way will probably see you around. What other things do you have left to do?
Well done 👍
Thanks :)
Congrats mate applied for RAF last week
That’s great I’m currently in basic training now and is defo a challenge but will be worth in the long run, stay through it and you’ll enjoy it.
Congratulations man! So now you may have to complete a National Security Vetting questionnaire sometime soon in a week or two and wait maybe 1-2 months for them to reach back to you so that they can approve you for the offer of service interview. I completed the questionnaire a few days ago and now I’m just hoping they reach back to me quickly.
Oh right I see, someone did mention that in the comments in one of my other videos I'll keep an ear out. Is it basically a security questionnaire about you? And do they phone you to complete the questionnaire or is it something they send to you?
@@JakeGchannelyeah they give you a link to a portal and you’re given a pin and a login, you must save the information and you have to complete a lengthy questionnaire, and now they did reach back to me already, I was expecting for them to take longer now I got a new RAF task to give some basic bank details
@@l_trips_ Oh I see and yeah that's great! Means bank details for either to pay you to or for confirmation hopefully its the first! I got an email from the fitness people saying they have got the paperwork from the gym and have now sent it back to my recruiter so hopefully this stuff comes around quickly.
@@JakeGchannelyeah for me the paperwork took maybe just over a week so you won’t have to wait long
@@l_trips_ Hopefully not its been a week already and have heard nothing. I messaged my recruiter yesterday and heard nothing so not sure when to chase up.
Congrats! My fitness is next Thursday, I didn’t know your head had to touch the ground on sit ups, also do they put pressure on your feet while doing the 35?
I have just done mine a few weeks ago, they do stand on your feet. Please practice sit ups as they are often way harder than people think, so dont underestimate them! I am sure you will be fine though and good luck👍
Yeah they say that but to be fair most of mine didn't touch the ground but got close to it if that makes sense. And yes they keep your feet in place and also count how many you done.
soon i will be sending in my application for the RAF, do you have any tips for someone starting the process? im finishing college this year and have some part time work experiance too. vids are very helpful, keep doing them!
Thanks! And the main ones from me personally is:
1. Get some work whether its part time/full time to bring some income in.
2. Get your fitness up even if you are already fit never underestimate the fitness you need not only for the application but for basic training as well.
3. Find your reasoning for joining. This is a big one as there will be times where things are looking grey and you going to feel like quitting so having that strong reason to join will help massively.
Hope this helps! Do let us know how your application goes :),
Jake! Ive got my PJFT on thursday. When you done the sit ups. Did the PTI stand on your feet or lock your feet in whilst doing sit ups????
Yes they held my feet down on PJFT and at Halton they get someone to stand on them. Rest assured they will be held (or should be). If they don't then ask them to as that's not the correct way if they do not.
@@JakeGchannelmany thanks Jake! Puts my mind at ease
@@ianhendrytube no problem, let us know how it goes 🙂
I done my DAA test on Tuesday last week. I failed unfortunately now I have to wait for 12 months. That's what they said.
Yeah unfortunately they changed it mid last year you used to be able to take it twice. Did you get any positions?
@@JakeGchannel I managed to get (logistic chef) but its not something I want to do. I applied for logistic mover and I HAD TO GET 50 marks to get the role but I got 36 marks.
@@ibrahimsow7819 Oh right yeah it's a pain but who knows maybe you'll be surprised and find you liked it more than you thought. Have you chose that role or going to wait a year?
@@JakeGchannel I have not chosen the chef role. I am going to wait a year. I just want to say that I have been benefiting from your video a lot BTW. They are helpful. I get an insight of what the application process are really like through your vids.
And congrats on you fitness test results
Great work
Thanks!
from the time you did your selection interview till when you did your fitness how long was it? i have my interview on the 20th and i'm struggling so hard with the fitness. the pushups i can do around 10-15 in a minute which i can fix by the time of the test, but the situps i cant even do 10. any advice or tips?
Mine was quite a while because I had some medical documents I had to send so it took almost 6 months to do that but from that point (medical being checked ok) to the fitness it was a a few weeks but I pushed it back till a month as I couldn't get the time off work.
In terms of advice I never really trained core but I did a lot of compound exercises (exercises which uses multiple muscle groups) which did use core quite a bit so I'll detailed what I did in the gym below in terms of exercises that helped with leg and core strength.
Superset: 3x Sled Pulls + 3x Battle Ropes + 3x 30sec Plank. 1 min rest in between.
4 sets Barbell Squat. 1 min rest in between.
Normal push ups and sit ups (I go ham for a minute straight).
They were my main exercises other ones more specific to core are:
Leg Raises
Russian Twists
Crunches
Dragon Flags
Side Plank.
The best thing to do is simply do as many push ups as possible but be really careful not to over do it as you will burn out your core for days and waste all the work. Progressive overload, meaning, doing smaller increases over time.
Hopefully this helps.
@@JakeGchannel thank you so much for the detailed reply man! i appreciate it. well my interview's on the 20th so i'll update this thread as i go along, maybe it'll help others as your videos have.
two more questions (sorry!!):
1. can i ask for the fitness test to be pushed further back a bit?
2. if i don't achieve the minimum standard for a part of the test, whether that's the run or sit-ups or pushups, are there re-sits or is it just a fail?
just to confirm there is no bleep test in the Fitness test? it only included the run, pressups and situps?
@@prayaggandhi7089 if you’re talking about PJFT no but at Halton the multistage fitness test it does.
Hi Jake, I had quick question about the sit up form. Do they stand on your feet whilst your doing them or are your feet supported at all?
Yeah he placed his hands on my feet and counted out loud till I hit the required amount.
your head has to touch the ground on sit-ups?
Yeah but to be honest as long as your back is flat they counted it otherwise you'll give yourself a concussion because of how fast you'll be going XD. It's what they told me so I thought I would relay that to you.
well done pal what date do you think youll get to halton as i go in April might be lucky enough to be on the same intake
it's defo possible I'm guessing (from other people commenting) probably around 6 weeks from when I passed which would take me into April but obviously that hasn't been confirmed yet. When did you pass your fitness?
@@JakeGchannel December 28th last year but there was a load more paperwork that needed looking at as I’m a rejoiner
@@connordoherty1646 Ah I see I did contact the fitness people and they have confirmed the paperwork and have sent it to my recruiter/AFCO but have heard nothing back. When did you actually get the date set? Meaning from the day you passed your fitness test how long did it take them to inform you that you basic will be on this date?
Alright mate I applied 2 weeks ago how long is it roughly to get to the fitness test stage
Hmmm good question it depends on how well you do and how quick the raf moves your application along. It took me from applying in April 2023 to passing fitness on February 2024. Please keep in mind I had way over 4 months on issues with medical so that’s what slowed it way down. Any other questions please feel free to ask 🙂
im about to do my PJFT in a week and I realised they just changed the 2.4km to 12.11 instead of 11:11
Yeah they changed it a couple of weeks ago possibly longer, they also changed the bleep test from 9.01 to 8.06 which is interesting. Do let us know how it goes.
Also they now minus the time off that it takes to get the treadmill up to speed.
@@him050 oh really that should be pretty easy then. The bleep is actually 9.10 instead of 8.06 found that out here.
@@him050hi,can i ask who told you this? Ive got my pjft coming soon, cheers
Hello Jake,
I have my medical next week, have some questions, how can i contact you pls, really important
I don't have any socials unfortunately you can comment on here if that's ok with you? You don't have too personal if you feel uncomfortable and I'll do my best to answer whatever you query is. Also it may benefit others who are in a similar situation. Alternatively I do have an email if you want to use that.
Hey jake, i had fracture in my finger 1/2 years back, is it going to be an issue in medical? i have no pain or dysfunction its healed properly. Do i need to provide this info to them? Pls advise
@@SandeepSharma-ut3rs I would still mention it to them as they will check your fingers over as they did mine if you show no signs of discomfort (basically everything is ok) then it will be fine but regardless they will ask for the medical documents to see to what extent it was broken/fractured and whether that will affect your ability to complete any physical activity. Hope this helps.
if u get just a little bit over the required times, could you still pass?
Unfortunately not. I thought this until I asked my recruiter on the interview, they said you have to hit those times as they are the bare minimum. Unless you are going in as a regiment gunner then they expect even better times. I might make a vlog vid for my exercise days in the meantime to give people an actual viewing of what I do/did to pass my fitness. Not sure if it'll be any help for people.
@@JakeGchannel ah okay because im signed up for intelligence analyst and was just wondering since its a role that requires you to mainly sit in an office, but thanks! Got mine on thursday next week
@@mrman6845 yeah I had the same mindset for the cyberspace but it’s not too difficult to pass if you put your fitness through its palaces. Do keep us updated on how it goes.
@@JakeGchannelyeah ive been practising since like december, my pushups and situps are going well but my stamina for running doesnt seem to be getting better no matter how much im running, but fingers crossed it goes fine. congrats on passing though
@@mrman6845 Yeah I was in a similar boat but I would recommend to run on an incline as that will increase fitness massively (obviously not going mad and burning yourself out in 20 seconds) and for me as I walk tons in my new job that obviously increased my fitness massively but just keep in mind when doing the fitness test that it will be over in the next 10/13 mins or so. Hopefully this helps.
What role you applying for mate
The cyberspace communication specialist role. What about you?
Why don’t you vlog through training?
Yeah I was thinking about it but to be honest I was so focused on passing and getting through it I wasn't thinking about vlogging. I might consider that in the future tho.
Is PRTC not a thing any more?
I don't think so because I have no idea what that means XD
@JakeGchannel it's selection. You used to do your fitness test and medical then you had to go to Halton for 2 or 3 days and do the selection course.
@@Apoch88 Oh I see so they instead just put it with basic training. How long did it take you from passing your fitness to getting into basic training?
@JakeGchannel I can't remember mate I've been in 12 years. I think I passed PRTC in the Feb had my final interview then started training at the end of March.
@@Apoch88 oh wow so you’ve been in there a while, what’s your role?
was there a bleep test
No the bleep test is only in basic training not the PJFT.
