- Today, two of the hottest Supercars of the moment.
The Lamborghini Huracan Evo is new this year and we love it’s naturally aspirated engine, its sense of theatre and drama - it’s all that a supercar should be. But is it keen enough to drive on a circuit?
The McLaren 600LT is undoubtedly sharp to drive - the turbocharged 600LT is one of McLaren’s most focussed and enjoyable cars to date.
But can it shake off a Huracan Evo on track, and more importantly, can it provide more fun while it’s trying? And what of the elephant in the room, the car that isn’t available for comparison testing yet, the Ferrari F8 Tributo?
Join Matt Prior and Mauro Calo as they take the pair onto the beautiful Anglesey circuit and find out.

A motoring journalist who is shorter than Richard Hammond, unbelievable
Chris harris
he can still kick your ass.
I'd actually say Hammer might be even better driver than him if that's ever possible; Can't control his right foot at all then says it's "a handful" lol
Romi Not Romi Nella by any chance???
Ever heard of alex from carthrottle😅
Could he see over the steering wheel?
this is the best driving position. county drug dealer esq
It’s the motoring journalist “ I’ve done a few track days” seating position, as used by Chris harris
At that speed you don’t look down. You look forward ahead from you,. He’s doing great don’t you think so!?
@@simonxii3566 No. Chris Harris is a real racing driver. He knows Marino Franchitti, Chris Goodwin and Take That's Howard Donald. He also coaches the celebrities on Top Gear. Case closed.
Warren was that supposed to be funny, just asking
Mauro looks really awkward behind the wheel. Reckon he needs to sort out his driving position.
He sits too far away from the wheel is the first issue.
He just needs to grow 6 inches.
He's gone for the racing driver style position but can hardly see the wheel and is struggling to see over it.
@@simons4474 he hasn't though, racing drivers sit quite close to the wheel when they're actually racing.
Exciting cars, boring presenters.
AWD doesn't give more grip. It gives better traction. Grip is lateral.
@@danielbrown4579 Lateral as in G's?
@@Turbo_S_Em_funf Lateral as in lateral
@@Turbo_S_Em_funf That's the one :)
@@stubones Gotcha!
It does add more grip through torque vectoring. This is why all new AMG and M cars are now 4WD. Because the horsepower has risen so much than with 2WD you skid off. The current M5 is almost undriveable when you turn the 4WD off.
I just want to know if the guy in the 600LT kept that Casio calculator watch since elementary school, or if they are selling those again. ;)
Evan Katz they were selling them recently not sure if they still do
LOLOLOL!!!! awesome comment... I noticed the watch and thought I was the only one.
David Guidolin I spend far too much of everything on watches... I need therapy
@@dlhussain81 I hear you... I have 5 top watches
@@dlhussain81 you and me both!
Mauro, I am sure you know this, maybe you just forgot, but McLaren paddles are on a rocker switch, if you want to change down when driving with one hand (while talking on the radio) you can just push on the right paddle, you do not have to reach over to the left paddle.
quigonjay9 this was driving me a bit mad as well. Or the fact they could’ve left them both in auto until they were ready to race
Could not have made this any less interesting. Good work.
How did they even find people with so little charisma?
I don't track my car at all, but if I do I wouldn't prefer my car to slide around like the 600LT does. I had a couple McClaren and they are terrible... I love them until the third year of ownership, that's when thing starts to breakdown... the MP4 12C need a couple repair work and the 570S so far needed a multimedia system change. My Huracan (non evo)? No problem so far despite 60k miles.
Rachaphon Wangtepanukhor
Agree . Mclaren is total unpredictable junk. The lamborghini has impeccable build quality and they take care of their customers.
(while driving a lambo on the track) Journalist: I wish I was having more fun
(Me chilling on the couch): *_*........
I think the guy in the Mclaren needs a booster seat
I filmed a drive for winding road magazine in a 600LT and battled the exact same issue with tire pressure warnings! The critical Bong is NOT a friendly one.
I own a 2020 Spider.. never had that problem running 29/32 PSI cold
Meatpunch 2019 600LT Coupe owner here and have never heard that noise ever. Also, how cold was the track temp the day they drove it there.....it clearly looks like it was a handful and I’ve only experienced it as possibly the most neutral handling car ever with outstanding turn in/corner exit not the spikey handling thing he was struggling with
@@jameswillard1 agreed. Guy was being a drama queen and already had a negative opinion. Look no further than a real driver and watch Chris Harris review and drive the 600LT. He wasn't whining the whole time and can actually drive lol - this guy probably was upset there wasn't a storage compartment for his purse. Not to mention, who wears a calculator watch still... And tracks an exotic wearing a leather jacket lol
@@jameswillard1 also look at his seating position... His tiny short arms are too extended. Guess he wasn't able to locate the steering adjustment to bring the steering wheel closer to his little body hahaha
Meatpunch 🤣😂
YO! the McLaren can up shift and downshift from either side, no need for awkward reach over at 1:14
@@jafooli fair enough.. it's a feature I really like on the McLaren.
600lt anyday of the week.Despite the weight of the spider,it still does the same time as the pista in the 1/4.600lt is always going to to be the more engaging car with the hydraulic steering, rear wheel drive and weight reduction over the evo
But 600LT sounds like a straight piped vaccum cleaner and doesn't have the fun factor...
@@AP13P the Mclaren is more fun to drive bc lighter weight, stiffer carbon Chassis and hydraulic steering. Lambo has a much better sounding engine and edgy looks but that's it
Doesn't have a V10 tho. I literally lost my love for mclaren when I revved an R8.
@@AP13P the 570s/600lt sound pretty good in person for a twin turbo V8. Doesnt sound anything like a straight piped vaccum cleaner, that is what a 911 Turbo sounds like.
600LT does the 1/4 mile the same time as the Pista?
Pista does 10.1 in the 1/4 mile
600LT does 10.4 and the 600LT Spider does 10.5
Now British motoring journalists are pronouncing it ''coop''. Ffs so where's yer chickens then mate?
675LT is one of the best most fun and exciting cars to drive.......😁
Was distracted from 1980's watch the guy in the McLaren wore.
1:13 No need to use the left paddle to down change. In a McLaren you can push on the right side paddle to change down.
They really can read the brochure
Why can you not just quote the comparable weight figures? Dry lightest figures are readily available.. They're usually the headline weight figure from an OEM.
Do you have on-board full laps of them both?
@1:14 and @1:29 Uhhh...you know you can upshift AND downshift with both left and right paddles in the McLaren right???
As a auto/motorjournalist you should know that....right???
totally agree... pathetic journalist.
Great combo with these two driving!
Watching the gentlemen in the 600LT was hilarious, he looked so awkward...like my 5 year old nephew trying to reach the steering wheel.
As a 2019 600LT Coupe owner I am curious how cold was the track temp the day they drove it there.....it clearly looks like it was a handful and I’ve only experienced it as possibly the most neutral handling car ever with outstanding turn in/corner exit not the spikey handling thing he was struggling with
Did anyone else get the sense that the person driving the McLaren couldn't really control it at all. He could barely cleanly shift the thing and it's not even a stick shift.
Wouldn't the performante been a more equal comparison to do? As the evo is the more road going version?
This vid highlights the common Mac Issue, sensors issues/reliability. Also a track focused car like 600lt should be less frustrating on the track, put that down to "old fashion" laggy turbo motor and the open diff Maclaren architecture.
Perhaps a test against Performante, the lambo's more track focused Huracan, would have been more appropriate, due to that cars weight saving/better Aero.
Excellent stuff bro
I had a good look at an MSO spec 600LT recently (video on my channel) and it's just fantastic. I really think it's just a perfect track car, wouldn't change a thing.
Must be hard to track a car when you can see over the steering wheel lol
Clous von What?
2:04 that, my friend, is understeer
You, my friend, are clueless. That's nowhere near understeer. He just took a different line through the corner, and actually the balance was perfect. At the exit you can even see a bit of oversteer.
@@derbigpr500 I'm quite sure it was. i mean, just look, he misses the apex, washes out and you can even see his steering correction. If he was taking a different line, he would have probably breaked sooner and turned the car for better acceleration on the straight section. Breaking and turning later isn't a line you ever want to take unless you're overtaking and want to cover the inside of a turn, in every other case it just slows you down and makes you accelerate worse out of the corner
Both epic cars & a great video highlighting that neither are particularly at home on that track.
Rather have a McLaren 675LT Spider and Lamborghini Huracan performante spyder than either of these. McLaren 675LT Spider is a future classic guaranteed - EPIC Car
2 brilliant cars! Both so different but both absolutely amazing!
Also, a great review!
Yes, natural aspirated is always better but not because of more power (in this case) but because of the beautiful sound and how progressive it is. In terms of performance, turbo engines are usually much better and also reach much higher torque figures.
VAG cars seem often to be competent, but rarely as exciting as one might want.
Steve Lane For experienced racing drivers maybe, but if someone threw the keys to any 911, Lamborghini, even Audi RS car i’m sure most people be pretty stoked
@@malikcbarnett no doubt! There are some great cars... just with a tendency to be more competent than outright fun.
Steve Lane I wouldn’t include the 911.. it’s the benchmark for any sports car.. manual gt3 over Ferrari 488 any day.. especially for sport driving.
I think in terms of driving experience you would be better served by the LP580-2 or R8 RWS / RWD than with the full-on Huracan Evo. AWD cars are rarely if ever going to be more exciting than RWD on a track.
Performante wants to have a word with you.
lol Flashback to Chris and Mauro driving on that comparo test back on Chris Harris Drives. Mauro's amazing footwear. Ah, the memories.
GT3 and 458 Speciale yeah? Those were the days...
@@reallypeacedoff CH was my entry point into CZcams auto journalism.
What was the name of this race circuit? The water view is jaw dropping
Anglesey, North Wales.
Weather is shite there
I wish Lambo would make a rwd Huracan Evo with the same amount of power as the awd one. That would sell like hotcakes.
cardude1992 they do now
2bar tyre pressure in the 600LT? Surely that’s on the low side? Poss why you are struggling with it?
Watch a review of the LT somewhere else for a completely different view. I haven’t heard of anybody else say that it’s not got a friendly playful chassis. Sadly it just seemed like another Autocar CZcams effort!
Exactly - Chris Harris review for example. He loved the 600LT
That 1990 Casio watch though ☺
What we’re all the beeps with the LT?
It breaking down?
It's the soundtrack of McLaren's. There are always something wrong with them
its a low pressure warning...the more aggressive sound is the "critical" pressure warning. I had this happen a couple weeks ago in an LT even though all tires read the same pressure and were tested externally to prove. Wonky British things
Now that the dumbasses have had their say, it's tyre pressure warnings.
@@Just_Pele Its not. The 570s/600LT just beep a lot. My friend has had his 570S Spider for around a year now and has put 5000+ miles on it without any problems and the car just beeps a lot for things such as tire pressure/temp/lift system and tons of more things.
"I think I've got the legs on him on the straights".... Mauro you haven't got the legs on anybody anywhere. Put your seat a little closer, it looks like you're reaching for the high shelf everytime you turn the wheel. Scoot it up a bit and quit using your tip toes on the pedals and you'll be quicker.
Joshyouah20 The seat is a fixed height bucket, no adjustment. But thanks for the great advice about my seating position.
@@TheCarMagDriver Then extend the wheel closer to you. If the seat is fixed then the pedal box and wheel must move. This isn't the first video/car I've noticed this in.
Joshyouah20 .He had a moan at me when I said the same thing, and asked me what I did for a living because I mentioned his awkwardness. Small man syndrome.!
@@simons4474 I was thinking that's what it was.... "Nope, I'm big, I can have the steering wheel as far away as I can. See, look, it's way over there!". As someone who "drives" for a living, the position is all wrong. I get it, no two people the same height will like the wheel and seat and pedals in the same spot. But it just looks..... awkward I guess.
Joshyouah20 If you look how far the wheel is from the dash in both cars you can see where he,s gone wrong. Probably didn't know how to move the wheel. Just another small point Chris Harris had one of these beating a pista but maybe this Mauro was giving it one too many potatoes.
A McLaren randomly beeping at you.... no never!
Tyre pressures and temperatures are very important on track. You’re supposed to adjust pressure for track use before you track the car. If you don’t you overheat the tyres. Clearly these numb nuts didn’t hence the warnings.
As car enthusiasts, I thought people would know who Mauro is. I'm sure a number of viewers here are fans of Top Gear, and you might recognise him from the Top Gear episode where they filmed the car chase for The Sweeney. Mauro was a drifting champion, and performed stunt driving in a number of famous Hollywood films. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about. Of course, choosing a favourite car is a personal thing, like everyone has a favourite film, so his opinion might not be reflected by other motoring journalists. Some supercars also position the seats very low down, and the dashboard high up. There have been numerous references about this in Top Gear, and one example is when James May drove an Aston Martin in a search for the greatest driving road in the world; however, that was a front-engined car and a stripped-out racer.
Interesting that it was the Mclaren that had chronic understeer. I'd love to know their lap time as they both looked quite close, but they produce their lap time very differently.
All Mclarens have less front rubber than ideal. All.
Also, he is complaining in the Evo that he is not having enough fun. He wants to burn the rear whees but can’t he says. Lambo literally put in a drift mode. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it indeed is hard to have the fun you’re looking for.
@@stef1833 You said that like it's my fault he didn't use the drift mode.
Again, you two are an excellent pair. Lovely no bs presenters with complementary styles.
Well, there's the Evo RWD now :)
Both are definitely fantastic machines! Probably if Lambo produce a 2wd Evo version, it would be more competitive in terms of driving pleasure and a better comparison to 600LT also...
You guys are forgetting to mention what makes the huracan evo so good at handling, which has to do with its rear wheel steering. To miss this massive change is to miss the whole value of the EVO update
If u want to do trackdays get the Performante !
When did Ricky Hatton join Autocar? Was wondering what he is up to these days.
Both cars are amazing
Taking notes 📝
If you want more rear bias Matt Prior, do not drive Strada or Corsa. Drive Sport. I was going sideways every corner in the EVO at the Bahrain International Circuit. It is unlike any other AWD Lamborghini.
Make a Drag race video of both these cars
The dude in the LT can’t drive
Im pretty sure he can
hahaha yeah your totally right this movie stunt driver and movie camera car driver cant drive.....................oh wait it would appear his c.v. says different.
First time a McLaren looks huge
I'll give it the potatoes... Lol gotta love british lingo
the power to weight ratio with the wee fella driving is 70000bhp per tonne
That V10 in the Lamborghini just kills that v8 hair drier in the Mclaren. I don't care if the Mclaren can beat it around a race track or in any other kind of race. In real-world driving conditions, there is little between them apart from that noise, that pure guttural soul-inspiring sound from that V10. Nothing comes close, well maybe the V12 in the SVJ.
Not sure why they chose to put bicycle tires on those small McLarens
Great job boring me to death with two amazing cars👌
Nice Casio DBC...
The Lamborghini engine is the difference for me. Gives the car pantomime.
Huracan sounds glorious. Goodness me!!
His seating position in the. mclaren is SO wrong. It makes him work hard...
It’s a fixed back, fixed height bucket seat. Ever sat in one?
As a longtime Lamborghini lover, I'm slowly shifting over to team McLaren. They're looking better than Lamborghini's, nowadays.
Love the new McLaren GT. I love them too
nah the gt Is the worst
They? McLaren only make one car with different body kits.
Praising the Ferrari but it isn't here… saying Macca oversteer isn't predictable but fail to realise that's the turbo lag doing…
Needed to be Evo RWD (rear wheel drive comparison)
Am I the only one thinking that Mauro would have a so much more manageable time behind the wheel if he didn't recline his seat so far back? Doesn't help that he's short also.
ffs, how can you make a video about these two cars so fn dull...
Muaro should watch the Chris Harris video on the 600LT and reconsider some of his criticisms. It almost seems they drove two completely different cars. There's something to be said about going out and just enjoying a good car rather than simply bashing it.
Caleb Loewen You said it your self. We did drive two completely different cars on two completely different tracks in completely different locations in totally different conditions. I can only report what you find. Maybe you should re watch his film, and you could see that for your self.
First kinda poor review of the Mclaren 600LT; maybe the tire pressures were off? If not, then the disparity of the tire size front to rear, in the Mclaren may be the issue.
Nước ngoài xe nào cũng đẹp và đẳng cấp .quá tuyệt vời
Is the Evo a replacement/improvement on the performante?
matt helton no, the Evo is a road car and the other is meant for track.
No
The evo is a kind of special edition of the normal huracan
600lt needs wider tyres, they put narrow tyres on so it didn't compete with the 720s. Put proper tyres on and a geo setup and it's a different animal
Shouldn't they have compared the performante to the 600LT?
The EVO was so much more composed, on top of that it looks better and sounds better. I am taking the Lambo any day.
The coupe McLaren is s better handling car and lighter ??
A short answer: yes !
Not sure why they didn't swap cars at some point
Great concept but you need a camera with a view of the car in front. Don't over edit it. Views of the driver are not interesting.
This is the first negative review I’ve heard about both cars. I think they might be fussing over nothing really. The numbers both of these cars put out on the track and especially the huracan should speak for it self on how well it drives
Title: Lamborghini Huracan EVO vs McLaren 600LT.
Content: Ferrari 488 Pista...
Mauro seems to be sitting too low, and too far away from the steering wheel?
Harris, Mauro and sutcliffe for the next top gear please...no one is watching it for celebs ...they can all pedal and are all old mates so should have good banter
This channel is so biased against Lamborghini.... SMH.
they do not know how to drive cars.
Both are good cars, it’s a matter of choice.....
Lambo chasing a McLaren - you should shoot it like a James Bond action sequence, dramatic music, interesting shot angles, awesome engine sounds.
Sold my Huracan for a 600LT and couldn't be happier.
It doesn't look like it's competing.
2 awesome cars
1 really boring video
Drag 600lt vs huracan evo 1/4mile time, speed
Shouldn't the LT face the Performante? Honestly a genuine question.
It could. But usually they compare the Performante to the 720s
@@icydelight3693 Because I think the 570s would be a competitor to the Huracan Evo and the LT to the Perfomante, but I guess it makes sense when looking at power figures and price, maybe.
@@Notha320 yes and also track performance. The Huracan Performante and the 720s are very close in laptimes (the 720s is more powerful, but the Lambo is more track oriented). Same for the Evo and 600LT
@@icydelight3693 I totally get it now, I thought of it being the 720s would compete against the Aventador as they are the 'older siblings' of the 570s and Huracan. And then thought track focused derivatives the 600LT and Performante, would be competitors too.
FYI, a “coop” is something used to keep chickens in. You mean “coupé”, which is a two-door car
At this point you guys should only review Ferrari's and Porsche's. I get the feeling you guys aren't fans of anything else.
Is it essential to begin a review with such a collective uncertainty on what the hell you’re driving? And my kids can handle walkie-talkies with more wherewithal.
this sounds so sponsored... You're watching the guy in the Huracan going through the corners, the car seems settled, so is he, while on the seat and he isn't even out of breath, what???? Maybe I am ignorant but can someone explain?
zkingarias I share your sentiments. What does Ferrari has to do with this?
I understand why it happens but this is definitely one of those lost in ‘automotive journalism’ moments . I mean FFS complaining about the seats and the manor in which the LT loses traction and oversteers .... I know these are track oriented but the majority will never see one and can you imagine the lick you’d be doing if either of those quibbles became a thing? Two stunning cars and a race track to yourselves and all you did was moan..., come on, get real.
