I've been washing the interior of my Arais for over 20 years in the washing machine, 30º, normal clothes washing liquid. As for the hard shell, I use the shower spray to really get into the nooks and crannies, and wash it with hair shampoo (inside and outside).
A little late for my first cleaning last month, but I'm glad you did this. The videos online are terrible. Took me forever to figure out. I'm glad I'll have this for reference in the future. Thanks!
For the last decades I employed hand washing to good effect. Either washing powder or hair shampoo. But most effective is wearing a thin (modern tissue) balaclava. Just wash it every day or two, that prevents the helmet from smelling. Günter from Nürnberg/Germany

Ive used a hair shampoo to wash the interior off my old RX7, baby shampoo is ideal as its mild, plus makes the helmet smell great. I imagine Arai are advocating the use off just water to alleviate any issues that may arise if someone uses a detergent that damages the interior, thus making themselves liable.
Just so everyone is aware, this does not apply to every Arai helmet. Only those with the removable lining. If you paid the extra for removable lining, you're in luck.
Thanks for the video. Very useful! However, I am unable to fully put the visor back in the correct position after. It's a bit of a pain to correctly fit it. Now I get a horrible draft and buffeting on the right side. How is it supposed to fit at the bottom? I guess that the pinlock should form a seal with the rubber seal?
Okay the goddamn cheek pads, when you are putting the covers on, need to leave the front lower corner exposed. That is where the second tab of the neck guard goes.
The manufacturer's won't endorse it, but I've been using shampoo to wash my helmets for many years. Use a good mild shampoo, nothing too drastic; basically just enough to get your head/hair oils out.
Okay you have to ignore the stupid sign in front of your chin that says 'push spoiler up into chin bar before putting helmet on.' I don't think the spoiler is functional anymore, but it's easier for them to leave it on and put that front air vent whatever they call it instead. They don't tell you that and this video doesn't tell you that.

washing in warm water only? Even the visor?? Bugs will stay on .. Internal stuff should also have a bit of soap if you want your sweat out..
Leave a wet paper on the bugs, they will soften and be easy to pull
