It's two days after I set up my queen less cell builder colony. It's now time to get my grafts in.
Grafting larva into cups is not too difficult in itself, it's just a case of being careful to choose the right age larva. But for successful queen rearing, it's the preparation beforehand that's the key. Setting up the cell builder and then triple checking the cell builder to ensure that there are no rogue emergency queen cells being drawn.
I'm a part time Beekeeper from Ireland, mainly involved in honey production. I also do Queen rearing on a self sustaining level. Currently we maintain around 50 colonies at various apiary sites, but we do have plans for expansion.
I decided for 2024 that I'd start this channel, covering the trials and tribulations of beekeeping and being a beekeeper in Ireland. I hope to give beekeeping tips along the way from my own experiences and I will also have discussions and reviews on some of the equipment I use.

Hello and thanks for your comment. While I do sometimes have queens that I can sell, so far this year my results have not been great - the weather has impacted on queens getting mated properly, if at all. In fact, I have parked rearing any more queens until mid July when hopefully it might be more settled.
