This movie is an experience like most black movies back in the day. I don’t remember half of the movies I used to loved plot line sometimes but I remember how they made me feel.
This movie just makes you want to be loved and IN LOVE with your person ❤
How many of y’all already hit the 👍🏾 button before you hear the review? 💙💙💙
Can I tell you I LOVED this recap??? Oh my goodness! When it came out I was in my mid 20's and it absolutely spoke to what I was dealing with in Houston. Beautiful, professional, affluent men who thought they were the shit and believed that gave them permission to run game. LOL Thank God I act like a lady but date like a man...I believe in compartmentalizing when necessary. It's been one of my favorites since I walked out of the theater. Your grasp of the nuances is impressive...you're an old soul. Can't wait for Soul Food and might I request Poetic Justice?
I too was in my mid 20’s, living and dating in the Bay Area and dealing with the professional black men and athletes who thought they were above everyone 🙄. I definitely do not miss my 20’s but can look back and appreciate the good that came with it as well ☺️
That scene where Nina let Darius in her house was nothing short of movie magic, or a way to move the story along, cuz aint no way. Aint no way back in 1997, and damn for sure aint no way in 2022 LOL.
I wouldn't do it either, but plenty of folks go home with strangers or would find the light-weight stalking cute 😬
@@KeshaL8410 you are so right! Or let someone live with them they barely know....😒😒😒🙄🙄
My favorite soundtracks are Waiting To Exhale, Boomerang, Brown Sugar, and probably Belly
girl you had me crying... I am a 84 baby and I remember this movie..now I have to go watch it with my grown man eyes
As someone who’s older (70’s baby); I just have to say ‘84 was a hell of a year! I’m sure you’ve heard this already but I had to say it just in case!🤗
I love that you started this series! Can’t wait for you to do Soul Food. Always love your perspective on any topic. 💕💙
Awesome review! You touched on a lot of key points. I just want to point out a couple of things. A lot of the wordplay in this movie is significant in how Darius and Nina's love story played out. For instance, Darius asked if Nina would ever go up and say a poem about him and she told him that she'd tell a poem about love, but that he didn't know anything about that... she did end up doing so at the end. lol
And if you caught what Darius wrote in his dedication for the book, he had dedicated it to Nina, saying that she helped him reach his level. He had told her on their first date that was the point of it all - to reach your own level. Just small but significant full circle moments for them, where first interactions were brought back to the forefront showing their growth in love for each other. I love this movie! It's my favorite if you can't tell. lol. The wordplay is a dance in itself. And as you said the cast is absolutely beautiful.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 i love your addition to this review. Reading this makes me feel alive. Thank you.
Loved this recap! Made me go and watch the movie again. We didn’t discuss enough how Josie gave some trash ass advice! And how women still play mind games like this til this day!
I have always been suprised about how quickly that breakup occurred. Feel like it really happened out of nowhere but as an adult I can see that it was because neither of them were upfront in the beginning. Darius was hurt about her going to NY and about Wood. And then it’s like he was trying to get over it but couldn’t. They never sat down and talked about their feelings. Like ever.
Girl!!! Why am I screaming “yes girl yes!” throughout this. And the Sumthin, Sumthin Mellow Smooth Cut is my all time favorite song!! Great commentary. Loved this so much! 🥰 ❤️
"Somebody need to call the police on Sheila!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You didn't mention my FAVORITE part of the movie....
When he was on the phone, w/ the phone company (I think). She just walked in the house, & started taking his clothes off, w/o saying ANYTHING.
"Hello? How you doing??"
And she hung up that phone, after he had been on hold all of that time.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bendy when I tell u. I am 51 and saw love Jones when I was grown lol. Loved it from the start. The way u explained this movie had me in tears. Loved this!! And thank you for putting into words on how I felt about this movie.

Loved every part of this review! Especially your take on rejection and not being afraid of it but instead accepting it's a part of life. I've def struggled with being open to love after a breakup.
I'm glad Bondy said it because I never could figure out why I couldn't completely fall in love with this movie. It was choppy. I didn't fully watch it all the way through until a couple years ago and I remember being confused a little lol still a great movie for our black love genre
👏🏽 Yes, yes, yes, yes PLEASE do Soul Food. Soul Food is one of my favorite movies! I couldn’t get into the show, but I know you were a fan of that too.

This movie was so stylish. The actors, the mood, the visuals, including some AWESOME poetry, the MUSIC all pulled together to create an excellent movie!

Bondy...I mad you didn't do the whole poem....now I got to listen to it...hold please...be right back
Fun Fact: Theodore Witcher the director of this movie didn’t want Larenz Tate for the role of Darius because he attached Larenz Tate to O-Dogg & Jada Pinkett was considered for the role of Nina. Can we please get NTWG on the following movies:
Juice
Menace II Society
Friday
Dead Presidents
Why Do Fools Fall In Love
Thank you for reviewing this movie! This movie made me wanna kiss in the rain. I love it!

Love ❤️ you Blondy
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I agree with some of what you said. I really loved the music and the poetry. I liked the choppiness and didn’t feel like I needed to know more. I’m gen X though. Why y’all (millennials) gotta tear up our old movies 😂 This is an ongoing argument that I have with my (millennial) sister who hates Love and Basketball lol! Great review though. Now I need to go watch it for 200th time 😂
I need a Baby Boy Bondy!
I was 17, and about to be a senior in high school when this movie came out in 1997. I went to the movies by myself and watched it. I was enamored with the dark colors, the mood, the music, the poetry, and of course Larenz Tate who I still hold a torch for to this day LOL. This is one of my favorite romance movies of all times.
He's mine LoL!!😻😻😻😻
@@brandirichardson1491 GURL....LMAO 🤣🤣🥰🥰
