    Asuna’s “I know” at the end is honestly such a masterpiece of storytelling. It’s a reference to Star Wars, which Han Solo says to Leila after she confesses her love to him moments before he expects to be killed.
    While it sounds arrogant and cold, in the original context it’s usually interpreted as a moment of genuine vulnerability from someone who has spent their whole life guarded against showing affection or emotion. They want to say “I love you” back, but don’t know how to show affection like that so they instead show that they understand and accept the other person’s love, even if they can’t express themselves that way.
    The obvious parallels between Han and Asuna’s character arcs is one thing, but it carries even more weight *specifically* because she’s also communicating her love by appealing to Kirito’s love of movie references.
    It also serves as a major benchmark for Kirito’s character arc as well. His whole arc was about overcoming his narcissistic tendencies to be able to connect with others, which the way he condescendingly lorded knowledge over others was a part of. It gave him something to feel smug about when he dropped a reference nobody else got, and gave him a lot of parallels with Kayaba.
    They bonded over their shared contempt for “normal people”, but Kirito severed that connection when he grew enough to be able to empathize with others, which is why the killing blow is dealt alongside a failure of understanding of the Mythbusters reference. Then, as Kayabe struggles to reconnect with him at the end, Kirito brushes him off and focuses on Asuna who then drops that line.
    It’s such an amazingly cathartic moment.

    So in the actual show (and it’s been awhile since I watched it so feel free to correct me) the boss fight took out over half their people. The realization hit that there were still 25 floors to go and the boss monsters were only going to get tougher and chances were none of them were getting out of this game alive.
    Also in case anyone is wondering why Kirito can use Asuna’s sword remember Married players share inventory.

    • @Matej_Sojka
      @Matej_Sojka Před 2 lety +31

      Actually there was extremely hard boss on floors 25, 50 and this one 75, with Heathcliff supposed to be level 100 boss revealed to be the traitor for drama´s sake. Problem was that from level 74 teleport crystals no longer functioned in boss rooms so whoever went in, and we are talking "Clearers", the absolute elites here, would likely die without being able to scout the boss and his abilities first. That was the whole problem Kirito tried to solve by power leveling his guild to the point they were in floors they did not have the practical experience to handle, even if they had the level for it. The number of people on front lines was shrinking heavily, while a lot of players stayed on first floor doing basically nothing (which Corvax and Thinker tried to fix by rejoining the front lines after their group was massacred on floor 25, only to be massacred scouting floor boss 74 as that one was first with no teleport allowed) and majority of players was just screwing around waiting for Clearer players to finish the game for them. Oh, and Laghing coffin and other psychopaths after them got off on killing whoever possible so the number of use-able players got down even more. The anime really failed to get across just how screwed up the psychological situation was among the players of SAO. I mean, Asuna, who was overachiever even in real life fell in love with Kirito because he was the top ranker who told her to chill out. SAO is by no means a masterpiece, or revolutionary literary work, after all it was first seriously published work of Reki Kawahara, but I appreciate it from the point of view into how would deadly isekai situation affect people in it. Log Horizon is also great in this aspect, difference is there are hard core gamers involved there who enjoy that sort of thing and take charge. SAO anime does not even deal with the politics of solo players who leveled quickly but often died without support vs guilds who tried to recruit them due to their power, but really did not like them due to their unwillingness to cooperate outside of boss battles. Or information market which played a significant role in what Kirito was doing the whole time. The book was interesting and engaging while it could be better, but the anime was just a sad disappointment.
      The first season of abridged was awesome fun, but it went downhill from here, I just cannot get behind the abuse of the main character from now on. We saw him being intelligent and he suddenly grabs the idiot ball and no one lets him forget it.

On another note I have a theory that the King of Ashes is actually Silica from episode 4. Unrelated, but in the original series Kayaba was meant to be the final boss in the Ruby Palace on the 100th floor, the true final boss was cut from the game before launch for being too overpowered. The sound at the end was someone inserting a coin into the game cabinet, thus confirming season 2.

    21:20 In the original anime, Kirito needed to avoid using the special abilities associated with their weapons in the game.
    Because he knew that Kayaba, the creator of the whole game, already knew all the moves, preset abilities, combos and skills that Kirito had and could defend easily against it.
    So in this final showdown, Kirito attempted to fight using only real swordplay and no videogame assisted combo moves. Basically imagine a real swordfight without the flashy videogame mmo rpg fantasy lights and magic. Kirito ended up using an ability out of rage towards the end which kinda was the deciding factor for him.

      It would then give me like a 10 second segment of video was causing the video to be blocked. I would then have to go and blur that section of the video and the render the video and upload it and have CZcams check it again. It would then get blocked for a different segment that they didn’t tell me about the last time.
      That on top of the all of the other videos I have to edit and render and upload as well.
