What'd you think of this two parter? Moffat's actually a legend. My apologies for the confusion, I had a terrible tension head around this time.

@@mmm5409 the fact that this is the first reply I see on this comment just made me question life.... 😂
failwhale34 Moffat takes over from RTD after Tennant leaves, so everything post Tennants regeneration is Moffatt. Apart from Torchwood and Sarah Jane adventures, that’s still Russell T Davies
Moffat ruined The Show with years of terrible writing. Everyone was happy when he left
JustSomeRandomGuy Online why don’t you let him make his own mind up please? You say something is amazing you go in with high expectations that are never met and so the experience is tamed as a result. It’s the same the other way round. Why deliberately set out to ruin his experience. These kind of weird statements can be saved until he’s caught up. Or at least have the decency to put ‘in my opinion’ because news flash....not everyone agrees with you. Learn to respect that.
+
JustSomeRandomGuy I disagree, many of us loved Moffat's run, for the most part, was it perfect no of course not, but season 5-8 were awesome, and even later he still had some epic stuff. i'd take him back in a heartbeat over Chibfail :P
After you've seen the River Song storyline, come back and watch this episode again. It'll feel completely different.
OMFG I'M CRYING! I NEED TO REWATCH EVERYTHING
And you'll be so, incredibly heartbroken when she asks if he knows her :'(
No, he needs to watch himself react to this episode.
"NEW HAIRCUT AND SUIT" he certainly had more than that, and damn, Derillium "What a night that was"
He new all the time he was with her how she was going to die, that is very sad to think about
Rumour has it that when David Tennant was asked what the actress said into his ear, his reply was, "It was filthy."
I liked to think that reaction was 100% real.
Knowing Alex Kingston, I can easily believe this. lol
I read somewhere that she said a different rude/filthy thing in each take.
That is glorious.
she said "shaniqua"
@@PharaohredI guess we know what the Doctor’s name is then
13:29: "You just killed someone I liked, that is not a safe place to stand!"
One of the most badass lines in the series.
That is my favorite speech from 10. Totally badass.
I'm not a huge fan of Moffat as Showrunner, but my god he wrote some fantastic dialogue for the Doctor.
And Tennant's performance is so completely believable, it's outstanding. The man *is* The Oncoming Storm.
Not even close
LabradorIndependent little did the doctor know it was two people!!!
"I`m The Doctor and you`re the biggest Library in the Universe. Look me up..." That was great!
You didn't miss anything. River's story is a slow burn, and she was purposely played as a mystery for a good long while. You'll get there, eventually. And get some rest!
"If any companion has needed some time off it's Donna"
Good thing she spends next episode at a spa. Then three straight episodes of trauma.
😂
"River is Donna's daughter" what a funny prediction though.
I know, right
@@TakeruDavis You gotta admit - he's got the right idea. He was just a LITTLE bit off. When he gets there... woooooooo...
@@logandarklighter I know, I watched Matt Smith era reactions first
His always so close but his guesses are so out there
Wrong companion but getting there.
I love how you repeatedly pause the episode in order to come up with a theory which is either spot-on,...or spectacularly off :D
And that editing at the start...I almost had a heart attack! Brilliant :)
According to some workers and rumors, Alex Kingston said dirty things into tennants ear every time that scene was rehearsed, and they ended up having to do multiple takes as tennant couldn’t stop laughing at some of the things she said
That's actually been confirmed by Alex Kingston herself.
Man, Alex is hilarious
Don’t worry we were all confused when this episode came out.
Top 5 best scenes of this episode in no particular order.
1. River whispers in his ear
2. River talking in the background as the doctor runs back to the sonic to save her at the end.
3. “IM THE DOCTOR AND YOUR IN THE BIGGEST LIBRARY IN THE UNIVERSE! Look me up.”
4. When the doctor finds out Cal is a child
5. The doctor handcuffed as river dies
Btw that smile Tennant did to cal as he was saving river is my favourite face that Tennant made. Tennant isn’t my favourite doctor but he bloody well is close to the top.
And finally one cool scene not appart of my top 5 list for this epsiode but it deserves an honerable mention.....
When river punches him 😂
@@allthingspaper3247 Nice right hand...
Carlos A. Gógola what?
No matter how many times I watch this episode, the ending always gives me chills. Moffat's written some truly amazing stories, but this might well be my favorite (possibly tied with 5x01).
Blink?
@@allthingspaper3247 Blink is definitely up there. Honestly I have a hard time picking a number one favorite out of those three.
livingandthriving Empty child/ the doctor dances?
@@livingandthriving my personal favorite is Heaven Sent but there are so many to choose from... Moffat having written most
after all those years, it is still so fascinating to me how the writers could handle this character. It´s amazing. Everything fits, there is not a single continuity-error I could find and this in a time-travel show; amazing. Not to mention, Alex Kingston MVP
I have watched River's episodes about a bazillion times, including a "River Watch" where you do it in her order instead of the Doctor's, and in all that time I have only found one small error - about a third of a sentence that shouldn't have been kept. Moffat is that fucking good.
@@frostedsilver What was it?
I felt so sorry for stutter guy
james ward-gwilliam it was upsetting that his stutter got in the way of shouting Donna’s name.
@@andrewhayden9545 it really was
It worst to think they never meet again. Doesn’t become some Easter egg as in the guy she actually ends up marry. Love that never happened lost in time forever.
“Oof that’s a big oof. That’s a feels bad big oof moment.” 😂😂😂
I’m so sorry you had a headache. This is definitely in the running for one of my favorite two parters .
"River, you whispered my name in my ear. There's only one reason I would tell someone my name. There's only one time that I could."
THINK. ABOUT. IT.
I've never ever got that bit, still don't!!??
@@1funkyflyguy what's one time you definitely have to tell someone your name your true name
@@jameswg13 There is more than on time (or scenarios) when you could, would or must tell someone your name, your true name! Maybe I'm being just too literal, however during a wedding ceremony, I guess would be one of the most probable ones.
@@1funkyflyguy remember as well he is a time lord and time lord ceremonies and situations
Not go mention she is mostly human
@Daziysajalah It's supposed to be hinting that the Doctor told River his real name so they could get married. You need someone's legal name when you marry them.
You see, the problem with this is that it's all well and good acting like it's obvious, but it just doesn't work too well as hint. The Doctor's a Time Lord. He has an entire universe to get married in, at any point in time (needing a legal name is a modern legal procedure, it hasn't always existed even in our own history) and at this stage you have no reason to think he'd get married on Earth, nor in present day. Plus, yeah, I can think of a couple of other situations where I'd need to tell someone my full birth name. During formal legal proceedings, for example. The entire "there's only one situation where you'd NEED to tell someone your real name" thing just doesn't work on any level if you ask me. Even though that was what they were trying to hint at.
Tennant's performance as the Doctor is the best and this episode is a huge proof of his enormous talent as an actor...ten's era was and still is my favorite on this show and I love River's story line, as well.....so confusing, yet brilliantly done
Utter masterpiece. One of the greatest pieces of television ever.
17:08 Still makes me tear up to this day. I just adore The Doctor being so thankful that he gets a second chance.
Guys don't reveal anything here in the comments
You know my name. And in that moment this episode goes from mere excellence to utter genius.
also I said I was going to upload this ep faster but didn't so 4x10 coming right when it's unblocked 👍(either today or Monday the latest), also this is where things get NUTTY
The next two parter with the Daleks sand shit is my favourite two episodes ever!
ur such a good and honest man
You’ll love Midnight. It’s a creepy episode that is also very claustrophobic (in a small space) and feels like they are in real danger. You’ll probably a joke at the villain because the villain does make me laugh at times but I do find it creepy.
Tis all good.
@@andrewhayden9545 He recorded all these ages ago
The ending got me all teary eyed. Dear lord, this episode still holds so much emotions.
For some reason the reveal that the little girl is the main computer always manages to make me cry.
When you realize that River places her hand where a certain bow tie would eventually be. 😭😭😢😢
I didn't get that till ages later. My feels ;-;
Is that Coinsidence or did they actually plan that
@@dumbasstransgirllol46 I feel like it was planned. She touches that part with a lot of tenderness and remembrance. Plus we know this show plans ahead a lot lol
@@BlackGirlMarvel Plus this two parter is written by Moffat, so it wouldn't be surprising if he already had plans for River's role with Smith's Doctor considering this was only the season before he became head writer.
@@stevesmith5883 I wouldn't put it past Moffat. His tenure is very thought out.
"Oh! Oh! Oh! I'm very good!"
Chills.
Oh man, you cut out so much in the end there! The important conversation between the Doctor and River! We learn she said his name when she whispered in his ear.
STOP CUTTING OUT IMPORTANT BITS
THE "YOU KNOW MY NAME" BIT IS ***THE BIT*** I WAS HYPED TO SEE YOU SEE THIS WHOLE TIME
FFS
Don't worry. I'm watching the unedited version, an his reaction to that line was the exact same blank stare he had held through the whole scene. Nothing popped out to him about the line at all.
"You and me, one last run"... DAMMIT, when you know River, this breaks your heart
I just noticed the big house where Donna stays is the same location used in The Sarah Jane Adventures 3x07/08!!
13 Bannerman Road!
The coolest thing is that I'm watching you reacting to something I saw years ago and remembering when it was fresh to me as well. Glad you aren't looking ahead. I will drop one spoiler. You'll be seeing River Song again.
"I won't be seeing you again, but you'll be seeing me." - Canton Everett Delaware, Series 6 Ep 1
its supposed to be emotional u not even try to get on that level u are like "who is she" ... ur supposed to not know it, ur supposed to have a small "spoiler" as she said like 10 times the doctor meets her in the future you not need to think about who she ist just feel it xD
Well said, actually!
Actually most people who watched this was confused. Then after watching a second time it was sad and he’s seen so many movies and tv shows he’s used to seeing people die within one episode. How is he supposed to connect to someone properly from one episode. It’s not always like that!
This was an incredibly emotional episode, and I definitely agree that just going with it and feeling it is kinda what you need to do here. It's far too confusing otherwise. I remember just clinging onto the idea that she's from his future, so she knows all sorts of things he doesn't, because she's seen them and he hasn't. The rest just kinda happened.
I love that he actually guesses correctly. Fail is like "his wife..." technically correct lol Also anyone notice that River says Nine's line: Everybody lives.
8:30 seeing that as a 9 year-old was the scariest shit I'd ever seen. 11 years later and it still makes me shiver also
16:03 said Glenn
For me when I first saw this episode when younger the bit that got me wasn't this but the scene where Donna's "children" disappear in thier beds and the anguish in her voice that hit hard. I can't remember how old I was but was a bit older than 9, maybe 12 and had already watched a bit of horror behind my parents backs so the weird face didn't get me but I can see how it would, Donna's cries though, makes me shiver still too.
@@stevesmith5883 Yeah, on the one hand it's pretty goofy, on the other hand faces that are "wrong" in horror really freak me out. And yeah, that moment where they vanish got more terrifying the older I got, I think as I grew to understand it a bit more instead of as kid like "woah they vanished so spooky", it became genuinely heartbreaking
Don't feel weird about not having any type of emotional reaction to River btw: we only just meet her in this episode so when she dies it's not as impactful. It's unique storytelling because, as you can assume (and I know you've watched ahead to s5 by now), the emotional impact comes later. Love Moffat
4:32 ACTUAL CHILLS EVERYTIME
I can't believe you edited out the best and most important part of the episode!
and there it is, one of the most heartbreaking episodes of the entire series.... and we didnt even know.
they're ruined the doctor snapping his fingers to open the tardis by giving that to clara
Hurry up my G so many good episodes up ahead and I can’t wait to see ur reaction !
River Song!!! THE best character anyonce can meet.
This man really skipped the doctor saying river whispered his name
The event that river talks about. With her going to derilium happens and he gives her a sonic screwdriver and everything else that she mentions happens
3:11 so close, yet so far away, lol
Great vid man
This episode is just tear jerking moment after tear jerking moment with no respite and I live for it.
Awww, sweetie, the end of this video where you're worried you've disappointed us, I just want to give you a hug! No disappointment here, you haven't missed anything, don't beat yourself up!
memorize everything river says in this. it will all be important
Holy shit. For the first time you got emotional.
I remember hearing somewhere that River whispered the doctors real name to him
The Doctor mentions it in the episode itself. It just got cut out of this edited version of the reaction video (though another comment notes that failwhale34 didn't really have a reaction to that line).
This was my favourite two-parter. I was so afraid of shadows when I was little, after watching this episode. Still though, I love it. It's amazing.
when you find out who river is it will blow your mind.lol
These episodes are so much more painful a couple series on, so so much more painful.
Hushhhhhhh SPOLIERS...😭😭😭
I love this episode every time.
Also also also, the who turned out the lights people are based on some monsters from Scooby Doo
Who turned out the lights haha you mean the vashta nerada I know it’s hard to spell
Yeh... those fellas :’)
Yesssssss, Finally!
The only person Moffat killed in his RTD era episodes was Madame De Pompadour and that was only because we know from history she actually dies. Didn’t realize this would become such a theme throughout his episodes
love the way / you act to this one
Awesome great reaction
Moffat is 4/4 so far for you, but for me he's more like 38/40 (not including minis in the count). I also love his 2007 Jekyll series.
Yeah Moffat's really great with a few misfires here and there. It's just that his greats are so high, that his misses appear to be astonishingly low... the only episodes I really don't like much are Wedding of River Song and The Angels Take Manhattan (apart from the goodbye scene)
Funny you should mention Donna needing some time off.....
Do you mean midnight?
It’s cool bro, you got a headache and you’re tired, so we’ll let you off this one time ;)
Not disappointed with you.... you aren’t supposed to know yet who River is and won’t for a while(possibly a long while).... one of my favorite episodes.
Don't worry man, this episode made our heads explode at the time.
4:36 Until the W I thought that's when she finds out. Recently watched FW react to LKH, and spotted the possible moment.
I have no comment on this 0:50
Omg thanks for the heart failwhale34
I didn’t know what u meant then watched it with headphones on a jumper in the middle of class rn lool
Wait you still have school?!!
Up wrapping up my last year of uni!
Bro when you said pause 4:54 my phone had to buff 😂
5:00 What she whispered in his ear was his true name.
"Fucking meta-ass episode" -- Steven Moffat in a nutshell.
Y no reaction to River and the doctors conversation before she plugs herself in?
Something real happens
Failwhale34: it’s a simulation!
Someone’s in a simulation
Failwhale34: it’s cannon!!!
Omg river finally ❤️👌🏼
Omg you cut the best part at the end?
“Don’t you dare. Not one line.
Time and space.
You watch us run…”
This episode Hits different after seeing the rest of rivers story
she whispered his real name
3:15 Did he really speculate that River was Donna's daughter?
Your not supposed to know who River is yet.
I love this episode!!!
You have no taste
@@justsomerandomguyonline1144 wow this dr who episode was rlly good. It started the best storylines of all time. If I have no taste, then why is this episode one of the best in new who?
TheClashCrafts everyone hated River Song And The Moffat era it’s far from one of the best storylines of all time
FINALLY
Into to one of my favorite characters!
0:00 - 0:03
Is that big smoke?
Watch season 9 or 10's not to sure episode the husbands of river song it'll explain everything. Also you should probably watch all of mat smiths run as the doctor as it gives more information.
You cut out River's farewell speak completely!?
yesss
So ...do you start at a good man goes to war , to go in order with river and end up name of the doctor is it
About River Song......no-no-no spoilers sweetie!
08:44
Is it? I haven't noticed!
this guy watches naruto too?? wtf
the dude just earned my subscription
Everyone was where you are right now, think of it as a European lunch you are right where you need to be.
To be honest I am kind of jealous of where you are right now...enjoy the ride from here on out......
It was so simple it’s not really hard to see she from the future that’s so simple
1:59 what a long yawn!
FAILWHALE WHERE IS your riverdale reaction?
Oh you think this is meta? Wait 'till you get to season 6.
Sorry, have to say, was disappointed you left out the part where you reacted to the Doctor admitting River knew his name. Thought that would have sent you into a tailspin.
How many times did they say that RIVER IS FROM THE DOCTORS FUTURE and you were still trying to make up theories about who she is.
Cut out a good moment, maybe to get people to pay for it.
I maintain that this ending is tragic and not a win. It's not what River would have wanted and it comes off a little creepy. No joy.
actually, you know what? before you start series 10, you should do a fresh react to this episode. you'll be amazed what will click together
stop you we never geuss who river is so do not hurt your self
Omg the way you say Moffat makes my ears bleed
