You changed mine. Just a tiny spec, but enough to realize I'm not alone in these thoughts. It's very tragic that so few actually pay attention. Yet, they know they're right. They know God's okay regardless of you expressing faith or not because the true love is eternal, and therefore Internal. We were loved before we were even born, and even the wicked are loved. Isn't that something? I am not a supporter of religions and their wars. I don't think God is anything religions say. My opinion of course, but why feel guilty of sin wherever I go?

@@psmsmp7773he died in the 70s I believe. One of his last lectures he mentions humans being connected to computers, he was way ahead of his time. Grateful we still have his wisdom.
No, he was way behind his time. This was common knowledge thousands of years ago before we got lost. He’s just reminding us of where we’ve already been so we can get to where we are going

Edit: oops, not so contemporary I guess. I see he died in 2021. Oh well, either way I thought I’d clarify because right now we’re listening to Watts, not Watt.
In a way, God is like "0" (zero) that split itself into both a -1 (minus one) and +1 (plus one) creating the illusionary duality (which sometimes can be painful) in our earthly life, in order to experience it through us. In the same way, light needs darkness, life needs death, sound needs silence, but the reality and the truth is that they are still a oneness. We need to recognize and realize that. Being part of God, we truly are the "0" (zero), but our mind/ego/earthly self makes us believe to live in a world of +1 and -1, until we awake and recognize our Higher Self that is One with God...

He was an impressive man. Hearing him speak in a way that only he could gives me goosebumps. Never ever have I heard anyone with so much wisdom speak besides him. It’s monumental.
Alan was enlightened for sure. I bet when he wasn’t putting on the show for the audience that the conversation was scary serious. All religions are wrong and all own a clue, but their own pride keeps them from putting the puzzle/map together. Grow up already humans!

For real I feel so much at ease because it brought forth my greatest fears and concluded them with trust and no need to run after that which isn't faith.
In other words, our problems are a GOOD thing. And if we can get around to that, then life takes on a whole new appearance.
This was my intro to watts.
I found this while i was dating my abuser.
I was hooked after this video. Alan Watts became my white noise at night. The nights i couldnt sleep id listen to a full lecture of his or two.
He has, and still is, helping me wake up.
I think the wisdom gained from him and ram dass were instrumental to giving me the strength to leave that relationship.
Thank you Alan, you've changed my life for the better. In numerous ways.

I use the word “God” as to describe the closet thing to the pinnacle of creation. When I say God, I don’t mean an all knowing ego that lives separate from us. When I say God, I’m referring to everything that exists within this dimension. Including the very conscious experience you are having now. I am also the darkness that surrounds me. I am a small piece of the fabric of space that has become conscious, and also everything that surrounds it. I am the enteral witness. I will become whatever this luminous consciousness perceives. From a plant to a cockroach. That’s me! That’s you! That’s us! We are one organism. But just like a cell in your body doesn’t know that it’s part of a living being who exists in a complex universe of chaos & suffering, you don’t really realize how meaningful & important you existence is. So lose yourself so that you can find yourself. If not for the sake of mankind, but for the sake of the entire Universe.

this was the very first lecture I heard from Alan. It was after a break up while as an adult and after some time of nothing but working I went on vacation alone though I wish I had someone to share it with nonetheless I was alone and I went to Belize and I found myself listening to this specific lecture over and over while looking up at the night sky. Listening to Alan always made me feel profoundly detached in a depressing way. I will tell you now as someone who goes through life with very little interaction. Don’t be like me. Sometimes I wish I could turn my thinking off, it keeps me alone. I’m drunk right now so this probably doesn’t make sense but than again I am listening to this so what kind of drunk am I, I ask you ?

You’re not alone Jack. I’ve been there many times. Focus on one quality relationship at a time, and an introvert like me & possibly you too doesn’t need too many. It’s more about the quality than the quantity. Cutting out alcohol helped me too. As for the video, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to it on repeat. It calms me too. I listen to it when my mind feels extra disrupted & a lack of peace

I've listened to this lecture as my absolute favorite for the past 6 years. I watched the original before it was removed. I especially love the one on time. I love this man's expression of a melancholy that he genuinely doesn't seem sad, but a fun topic to honor in curiosity.

something tells me that what you fear must happen to you, the great equalizer through which you find back to light. so you get caught up further and further in fearful thought and then the inevitable happens, revealing itself as harmless. you get resetted and the journey starts again for the purpose of eradicating whatever fear is left. but in order for this effect to be powerful enough, you must truly fear it. and every time it happens, because focus from the resolved fear gets freed up, you expand your field of view and ascend to a higher state. it's like that awfully itchy spot that when it stops itching you remember you sit in a bus or whatever, the macro, but while it was itching nothing but the itching mattered
This level of insight and knowledge is timeless. Gives me such a sense of peace. I have a new love and respect for the infinite night sky ❤️

Pulling me out of a really dark place, nearly met my own demise by my own hand, selfish I know, 3 children and a family but in truth I never thought of anyone them, I let my pain get the better of me to the point it consumed me In th weirdest way, i was laughs and drinking next door at a BBQ and my head changed and told to do some silly stuff so I did and I hung myself, credit to my friend Craig and my partner they saved but I really feel its a matter of time, this life crushes me, im living in a body with a brain that wants to die, I just need to stop being so scared and get on with it this struggle has drained everything out if me to the point I feel I have nothing left, I wish I could find God

To the pantheist, there is only God. There is no non-God. We are all extensions of God.
God is being. God is existence. There is no other existence.
It could be said God is experiencing existence through its extensions (us).
Existence is non-dual but things that exist within existence have polarity.
This means that we can not know what pleasure is without experiencing pain. Justice, goodness, and kindness have no meaning without the existence of their opposites.
The beauty of the existence of evil is it gives us the needed contrast to understand what good is and also nature allows us to convert negatives into positives by negating them. Negating negatives yields positives. For example, fighting is negative and injustice is negative but fighting of injustice is positive. Destroying is negative and disease is negative but destroying of disease is positive.
Our goal in life is to affirm positives and negate negatives within us and outside of us.
If most of us do this the world will be converted to one of maximum pleasure (good) and minimum pain (evil).
I feel that following the Silver Rule is the needed ethic to get there. The Silver Rule pretty much ensures we survive as a species and thrive, by eradicating both exploitation and being exploited.
The Silver Rule is:
We will not do to others what we would not like done to us. We will not let others do to us what they themselves would not like done to them.
The last piece of the puzzle for the Silver Rule to work is we must love ourselves. Why?
For example in general we would not like to get slapped therefore we should not slap others. Makes sense right but wait.
If you are a self-loather the rule does not work because you don't mind getting slapped because you hate yourself anyway therefore you will not
see anything wrong in slapping others. You would not even object to others getting slapped or oppressed because you hate yourself and naturally you will treat others the way you treat yourself. If you are kind to yourself naturally you will be kind to others. If you are mean to yourself then meanness towards others will be your natural inclination.
From the pantheist point of view, we are all parts of God and God is the sum of all parts of existence. God is existence and not merely something that exists or doesn't exist. Therefore to love yourself is to love God. To love others is to love God. To disrespect yourself or others is to disrespect God/existence itself.
I really see that pantheism coupled with a few more things is the greatest way a human can live in life:
1. Pantheism - God is not a being. God is being.
2. Affirming positives and negating negatives within us and outside us.
3. The Silver Rule - To prevent exploiting and being exploited.
4. Self-Love/Self-regard - Needed for the Silver Rule to work.
I have found that religions typically violate all 4 of these principles. They worship a being. They affirm negatives and negate positives based on their religious doctrines like for example killing apostates, homosexuals, and adulters in Islam. They teach that self-love is vanity. If you have high self-regard you are difficult to control. Religions want followers who are easy to control so they preach anti-ego propaganda. They will tell you ego is evil but they don't tell you ego is self. They are basically saying you are evil and you need them for salvation. It is a control mechanism.

The irony is that you do indeed pay for your actions. You may live your life and do what you want, how you want, and ignore all religious teachings. Sooner or later, you will pay the consequences. Irrelevant to whether religious gods are real or not. They may not be perfect, but religious teachings aim to guide you towards the path of good. For the benefit of not yourself.
