My boyfriend and i are moving into an apartment where we can't have our dog (it was my family dog so she's simply going back to my parent's, so no worries) and we both never lived without dogs in our lives (or simply pets) i'm allergic to cats so I can't have one, and a hedgehog is my boyfriend's favorite animal, so we're thinking about getting one, once we're fully established in our new place! I'm doing lots and lots of research and your videos are great! Thanks a lot! And i'm really happy about adopting a little spiky friend! A great plus is that we both work till late at night so our schedule fits with a hedgehog lifestyle, we stay up late most nights! 😊😊 can't wait!

On behalf of all those who own, looking to own, or simply just curious about the Hedgehog, and are looking for some good answers, thank you so much for all your hard work making these most informative, thoughtful videos looking to help any possible would-be & future Hedgehog owners and *enthusiasts (*I add "enthusuasts" because I think you have to be just that to take on the monetary and care responsibilities that owning such a pet entails; i'm not implying that they aren't worth it, though - they're so very cute and unique! But they need your love, and lots of your time!)!
I'm not a Hedgehog owner - they are illegal to have as pets in the state of Pennsylvania, to start, and the closest thing I have to a Hedgehog is my Hedgehog-Beanie Baby, Buggles! Buggles keeps me young-at-heart, and is really a buddy herself. No, no...of course there is no comparison between owning the Beanie-Baby vs. the real thing. I know! Except both are terribly cute!!!!
Buggles gets credit, however, for sparking my curiosity about the Hedgehog, quite seriously, and the more i've researched the lovable little companion, the more fascinating I find these animals. Upon and since finding your channel, Ms. Tori Lynn, I have learned so very much from your expert videos. I find you A#1 on this topic!! Your Hedgehog Care videos are jam-packed with tons of knowledge about the small mammal, and I thank you for the plethora of information on the topic! You really go above and beyond to help your audience - especially any future Hedgie owners who will/would be applying what they learned from you (we surely hope so, anyways! :) - in arming them with information! You - already what i'd consider an expert - probably still conducted a little research & double-checking, and almost-definitely, some considerable planning, in finding the right kind of information across this expansive topic, drawing up your best answers - and finally organizing it all! - to present to your audience, from their myriad list of, seemingly, every possible type of question about the Hedgehog, along w/ owning/homing it as a pet, of course* (* The latter serving as a plenty-expansive topic in itself!). Wow! So many people have so many varied concerns and things to consider for their own unique lifestyle & degree of limitation in having & keeping such an *exotic animal (*One, not necessarily demanding but one that requires some serious responsibility from their owner(s), as they are non-indigenous to our North America, and have some critical requirements such as temperature - 72-80 ° Hedgie cage temp. is necessary!) as the Hedgehog is, at least for us Americans, that your undertaking here as one informing & preparing those who are considering one (or more!) as a possible pet can be a daunting, and delicate matter! Understanding that fact, you do a tremendous job in your coverage of information, of any eventualities, of the ins and outs of Hedgehog ownership & care; you even touch on improbable yet possible dangers to a pet Hedgehog in the domestic environment & proactive solutions to those matters, and much, much more!! You explain everything well, and, while you're very honest about the cost, and the serious responsibility, attention & work required as a Hedgehog pet owner and/or foster parent - and that's quite justified - you're not discouraging to the viewer, either! You come across, simply, in preparing others for the role as successful, happy pet-parents, if getting a Hedgehog is, decidedly, right for them, after all their assessments (Drawing on your knowledge given here, in part!) are made. Well done!! And a great big, thank you, from animal lovers like me who especially appreciate you!!

I know this video is from many years ago, and you may or may not even be into owning Hedgehogs any longer, but I just watched most of the Hedgehog Care (and more!) segment on your channel, and, well, a "thank you" was due nonetheless! Man, glad to find these videos. A couple years ago, I did some research into taking care of these little guys and decided then wasn't the best time to bring one home. Now that I have a much quieter home, I'm considering getting one again. This is good to know, it sounds like you've had more than the two you've shown so far. Hi we are thinking about getting one // doing lots of research on hedgehogs. This video was helpful thanks. I have to COMMEND you on your patience through out the video, with the constant moving of that hedgehog . You either have incredible patience or a TON of love for it. Amazing how you kept calm through the entire video . Very impressed ps what age do you recommend the baby be before re homing ?
I'm used to it, hedgehogs are naturally pretty squirmy and don't appreciate having their movements restricted :)
Hedgehogs can go home at around 6 weeks old when they are weaned from their mothers. You don't want one any earlier than that, but older hedgehogs are fine too! :) Both of my boys were slightly older when I got them.

I just got one yesterday, I've been waiting for this specific hedgehog for almost a month. (put a deposit on her on oct. 7 and finally got her nov 3rd!) she's only 7 weeks old and your videos really helped! Im pretty much adjusted with her.
I do have a quick question though, I think she's due for a bath but Im afraid to bathe her because she's so small and i just want to be sure theres nothing specific i should be careful about.
+Audrey Just use a little water so she doesn't get any in her nose and ears. By that age they can be bathed the same as adults :)

My wife and I just bought a 9 month old today for our daughter and oh yeah it's painful at first DON'T GRAB both you and your hedg will not be happy lol but after 2 or 3 times I figured out gently is key and were getting to know each other a little at a time. He seams to panic when I held him . Could be because were both a bit nervous of each other. But as with my bearded dragon ill learn how to better handle and when not too . Awesome vid very educational for a guy like me

I do use gloves but its a temporary thing and i only use them when pulling him out of the cage i think he actually likes the gloves as well so thats a plus for me

My hedgie lives in a wire cage however the cage comes with a base very high so he can’t climb but either way he’s not a climber awesome video btw!

Your videos have been so helpful in deciding if and when to get a hedgehog! I’ve wanted one for the longest time but for now, Im waiting until I have my own home (hopefully in these next couple years). I’ve have been doing research so I can prepare and the only thing that keeps popping in my head is how my two toy poodles would be with the hedgehog and vice versa. Do you have any problems with yours?

hedgehogs come in every now and then into our garden. We normally take them to see if they were harmed. we also give them some food and water for the night and release them the next day into the large graveyard next to us. so pretty much i don’t even need to convince my mum to let me keep one lmao. But considering they were wild in the first place, we do let them out again

I just adopted a hedgehog. Almost 2 years old. He wasn't well taken care of. He's too skinny and he bites and is very skittish because the previous owner was allergic. I'm gonna make sure he has a good life from now on and I know it will take time but any pointers would be helpful!

Hi Tori Lynn, I got my sweet baby girl hedgehog about a week and a half ago from an amazing breeder. I have been watching your videos and they're amazing and incredibly helpful. I was wondering if I can ask you a question because you are very knowledgeable. I was cutting my hedgehogs' nails yesterday for the first time and cut the quick of her back nail a bit. It bled and I put cornstarch then flour on it to stop the bleeding. She didn't seem that upset by it but I noticed that she didn't go on her wheel last night. I feel absolutely terrible!!! Do you know about how long it'll take to heal and have any ideas for comfort? Thank you in advance and for your videos. You have beautiful pets! Sincerely, Allison

i found a pygmy hedgehog at my ridding club while i was walking a horse and i picked it up and snuggled it while i was walking the horse and wanted to take it home but my mom wouldn't let me because of the reaction that my dad would have and that fact that we didnt exactly know how to take care of one so now im looking up all the information i can possibly and physically find to be able to show my mom that i know how to take care of one.
also is it okay if i dont find a wheel to just have like a pen for wen ever i get a hedgehog?
As long as you connect the heat mat to a thermostat it wont over heat.

i have a heating bad, but it’s under the cage and a blanket or even a couple blankets. his cage is a plastic container cage. will he be okay??? i feel the heat everyday and it isn’t too hot
