Many memories of my time on board two sister ships to the USS Florida, the USS Alabama and USS Alaska. I was a nuclear reactor operator onboard both. The training for that job was the toughest thing I've ever done. It was essentially six years of college compressed into 2 years. 40-70 hours per week, and you couldn't study in the barracks because all of the training was classified. Advanced math, chemistry, fluid dynamics, electronic and electrical theory, mechanical theory, radiation control... it was a lot. Even though we were pre-selected due to special tests, almost half of the ones who started the training didn't make it to the end. Once you make it, volunteer for subs, get selected for submarine duty, and actually arrive, that's when you start learning about your ship type. (There are several different varieties, and you were only trained on one of them). On the ship, you are usually assigned to an 18-hour schedule. 6 hours standing watch, 6-8 hours of training, drills, maintenance and food, and 4-6 hours of "sleep" (interrupted to participate in ship-wide drills). Your #1 job is to qualify to stand progressively more-and-more senior watch positions... working your way up. Once you are "fully qualified" for most positions, you are expected to train others to help them certify as "qualified" to hold a more senior position. On and on... until you rotate to a couple of years of shore duty... and then back to another submarine. I did this for 20 years (including training), and retired as an ETC(SS), which is a Chief (E-7) Electronics Technician, Submarines. I know those guys you see in the video are some of the hardest-working people in the world. The training really gave me a huge "leg up" in college, as much of it was eligible for college credit. One funny story was that strangely, my college required an in-person algebra class, so I had to take it. After years of calculus from reactor theory training, let's just say that it wasn't much of a challenge.

They didn't actually start their mission until after the camera crew left. Everything was just for show. Standard public relations stuff although i'm surprised they let them into the DDS shelter while submerged. Btw i'm a former USS Ohio nuke submariner.

in high school, a guy who works on a navy submarine came in to speak to our government class and one of the things he said is that at all times the navy has 4 submarines in the water and each of those submarines carry enough nukes that it would only take 2 subs to wipe out the entire world.

And if he hadn't had a "special report" from inside a submarine, in which he said "tonight" zero times, the number of drinks would have been well over forty. Russia is teamed up with Spain. The Russian navy make frequent stops at the spanish port of Ceuta to refuel and receive supplies. Spain is supposedly a member of NATO and the US doesn’t tell Spain not to open its doors with the Russians. So I guess it’s all a farce from the US.

Yumi Tokushige yes. they clearly show vertical launch tubes. usually short range SLBMs, tomohawk land attack or anti ship missiles can be fired from veritcal tubes. other attack boats such as the los angeles class can launch anti ship and land attack missiles via the torpedo tubes

Nobody knows the weapons load out of a Virginia class submarine its classified, but yes probably.
