this is 100% the wrong way to repair a worn out area on the mound or batters box. Who taught you that? You sweep out the hole, scarify the hole, wet the hole with a water lightly, get fresh clay that is already moist and place in the hole to slightly above final grade. Tamp to compact then take a rake to level.

@@timthemailman7581 Blackstick is by far the best clay to repair holes with. Most MLB fields use it

You might have to do a quick fix for today then as soon as the game is over you do it properly

Of all the ingredients on a baseball field water is the most important. Not enough and it turns to loose sand. Too much and it turns to muck. With the proper amount of water that loose material he had will rebond and could become a perfect playing surface. It takes practice and patience but I’ve done it many times now over the last 3 years taking care of 8 different fields. Water is king!

@@davedzwilewski5195 Blackstick is the best but also requires the most attention to moisture management.

This is the 'we have a game starting in 30 minutes' quick fix.
The proper way is to cut out the entire box/area, fill it with mound clay bricks and give it time to set/wet/drag, etc.

This "repaired" dirt will come right out with the first batter digging their cleats into the surface. This wasn't a repair job at all.

Thus is probably the worst way I have ever seen to fix a batters box

Thats nothing, fields in the inner city , Baltimore atleast , the right handed batters box is a trench! You gotta climb out when u get a hit, at 5 ft 8 i hate it! Why does one have to act like a cat in a litter box? Dig in & rake! Gont gotta be ruts!! Really grindz my gears

Not correct way to fix holes. Need new mound clay or clay bricks if too deep. Water is important, and when ever possible let sit for a longer period with a tarp over area to keep in moisture and also allow the new clay area to firm up. In front of pitchers rubber and at mound landing area are just if not more crucial places for repair on daily bases, if materials are readily available

He means well. He just doesn’t understand that water is the most important ingredient when preparing a baseball field. The right amount of water will magically transform that loose sand and clay back into a perfect playing surface when it re-bonds
