- As we slowly cruise our narrowboat home north away from London, we're craving a quiet countryside in the middle of nowhere, but we're still excited to see the towns along the Grand Union Canal. In this episode we plan to move up to the next town, but after a few things don't align, we find ourselves in a more perfect spot than we'd ever imagined. 🍃😙

Ah yes, Harrods. I remember back in the 80s when I still lived in UK, I had a summer job in London and while there ended up showing a Malaysian friend's family around. They wanted to see Harrods (of course), so we went in. I gave them time to wander around and I ended up in the hardware dept. I had been checking the price of a particular socket set for weeks in all the usual places you'd buy tools (no internet back then) and I was shocked to find the exact same set in Harrods - and cheaper than elsewhere due to it being in the summer sales. So the one and only thing I have ever bought in Harrods was a socket set that I still have and use about 38 years on. I'm probably the only person who has only bought tools in Harrods and nothing else.

I used to love playing "guess the price" with my mum in fancy shops! A game you might like is: "what's uglier"? We'd go in charity shops, count to 3, and each hold up an "ugly" clothing item. Free laughs and sometimes great finds!😂

It was lovely seeing Doops and Rufus enjoying the quieter pace of life - and you both seem really relaxed 😌. Doops still has quite a turn of speed when he wants 😁. And Wes, take it as a compliment that your ears are still young enough to pick up the kid deterrent alarms 🤣🤣

Hi you two, love the vlogs. For your info the historic boats you saw are indeed old, they were built in 1936 by Harland and Wolff in Woolwich. The registration number you referred to of 602 is the health registration no when it was inspected to assess how many people could live aboard. The motor boat is named Bicester and had a grand union fleet no of 117 and a gauging number of 12702 when it was assessed for its load capacity. It’s CRT no is actually 68903.
The butty (unpowered boat) is Baildon also built by Harland and Wolff

5:00 - There's not much there. It's just a sliver of land between the canal and river on the other side. The flags were probably on the Hindu temple grounds, since there is not much else besides a reservoir that direction. (Denham Car Boot Sale might be around, but that's even further than the reservoir and more to the left.)

HeyHey- I was in Herrod’s in March of 1981, and brought back After8 Mints as a souvenir for everyone. Here I sit, almost 43 years later with a box of them beside me, from my local grocery store here in Kansas. Who knew? BTW, we had a Lion-headed Lop that looked EXACTLY like Dupes, but had we put him on the ground without his harness and leash, he would have been in the next county in a split second.

Ah yes, the high pitched sound to deter teenagers. Like you I am troubled by high frequency background noises. I have tinnitus which only makes it worse and across the entire frequency range (so no concerts etc.) You are lucky that TVs are no longer CRT. They used to have a high pitched whine much worse than the ones used against teens. I used to know the moment I went into a building if there were TVs switched on - even if the volume was completely off. The sound is above normal hearing sensitivity, but only just and I could always here it. Luckily CRT TVs are a thing of the past and flat panels don't have the same sound. In a school physics class on sound the teacher used a sound generator starting below human hearing frequency and moving up into our usual range and then took it up to 18,000Hz. At that point he left it and went back to the board to write notes etc. At that point I asked if he would mind switching off the sound generator because it was uncomfortably loud. He replied it was off. I said it wasn't, so he walked over to check and remarked 'oh, it is on , but only dogs can hear this frequency', so I was nicknamed Bonzo for quite some time after that. Yes, high pitched sounds are annoying.
