WHEEL OF FORTUNE 1978 Before there was Pat Sajak, there was Chuck Woolery. Before there was Vanna White, there was Susan Stafford. I tried my luck on the show in 1978.
WOW! Every one of these Woolery/Stafford era episodes are gold mines! It's like they try to purposely avoid talking about these shows and there were over 7 years of them!
Unfortunately, most of these episodes were wiped by NBC, and are lost forever…unless someone had the wherewithal to record the broadcast and upload them here to CZcams…
I am Carol Weldy. This is me. The show aired in color. In 1978, I couldn't even find a place to buy or rent a VCR. Filmed my episodes by aiming our movie camera at the TV. I was on for 3 days in a row, the limit back then. I won all 4 puzzles on day one. All of the puzzles had a political theme. I hit lose a turn and bankrupt on day three and did not win anything.
Does it have sound or it's silent? When you get a chance, can you please post them. Combine this episode you filmed (if silent) with the sounds from this episode here and it's a 1978 kinescope.
Hello Carol. That was an awesome episode of Wheel back in 1978. That was an awesome 2nd round especially buying that sportscar. How long did you have the sportscar? It was a great game and over 40 years later Wheel of Fortune rocks game shows. What was your favorite memories of being on the show? Thank you for making me enjoy watching game shows including wheel.
All the episodes of WOF have been in color, none were ever in B&W. There are a couple of 1976 episodes available in their original format off the master copy, and its definitely in color. I would say by 1967 all TV was in color, unless they were deliberately in black & white for artistic purposes. This is either a copy off the kinescope, or a VHS tape poorly preserved.
Great episode of Wheel of Fortune from 1978! Roger came so close to winning the game. If he would have bought less vowels, and (or) wait to hit a big number and called for the "N", he would have won the game. However, he did real well with $5,400 including two trips. Carol with $6,000 including a sports car. Missy had some tough luck on the wheel. Excellent episode

Nope, she can’t come back to the show to play again. Being on wheel in any point render you ineligible for the rest of your life, there are lots of people who want to spin the wheel!

It may be a rule since 1998, but Pat and Vanna took over in 1981 and 1982 respectively, so the point still stands. Could have wanted to back then, even if it's not permissible now.
Missy, airdate please? The star bonus token is not presented on the wheel so it could be before 4/6/78 or after June 1978. All three contestants get free spins in round 1. You dropped the free spin on the floor in R1!
Not likely from before April 6, since the $400 next to $125 in Round 1 is red. All I know, from Chuck's comment in Round 3, is that it was a Wednesday episode. Also, during the Round 1 shopping, Roger said he'd like to "spend the summer" in Vail, Colorado-implying that the episode aired around or before early summer.

Carol backhand spun the wheel. I have never seen anyone do it that way!
The wheel was deceptively hard to turn. She was a lot stronger than I was!
Left-handed people spin that way all the time. Actually get a little more torque pulling, as opposed to pushing.

This is from Summer of 1978 because The Gong Show ended on NBC in July 21, 1978.

A friend had a video camera pointed at the TV. It was actually in color, but through the watered down copies it’s now black and white.

@@der22672 it’s a rule since 1998. Contestants can be brought brought back for reasons such as Production errors and technical difficulties.

I don’t remember the air date. I was visiting California, and the weather was pleasant, so maybe late summer??
