"The Expanse" should be higher on this list, mainly because it successfully adapted multiple books over multiple seasons, something difficult to achieve in any genre. The fact it even came to, let's call it a stopping point, that mostly satisfied its viewers is something most others on this list haven't done, yet.
Not with 6 seasons over two networks and a Telltale video game. It started slow on SyFy but it has gotten its due since. Great show that deserves its accolades.
I read the first five books in my library then had to wait for the next four to be written. The wait was well worth the wait. The tv versions were the best.
Dark really is the best. There's some really good ones here, but Dark forces you to think so much about the fundamentals of life and time that it's interactive. You feel profoundly affected by it mentally and emotionally. It evokes awe. A bit of work to get into, and it can be confusing unintentionally in that there are four German families - all white and regular-looking, and then their young and old versions, and then their ancestors and descendants - so getting everyone sorted out can be some work. Not for the lazy or stupid for sure. And they had the good sense to stop when the story was done. The ending was close to perfect. Possibly the best show ever.
@@DaveBjornRapp Cool, I hope you enjoy it. Just note it can get very confusing at times, my wife and I would rewatch parts and talk about it to clarify what we were seeing. Also, there some great timelines online to use as a guide, just watch out for spoilers.
I'll echo others wanting 'The Expanse' to be rated higher. There's a bunch of real quality shows on this list that have only had one season so far. So a show that had top notch quality, and finished with at least a stab at an actual ending, seems to suggest it should rank higher. Add in the fact that fans saved the show from an earlier demise, and got another network to buy it and give it an ending of sorts; the Expanse is fantastic.
The greatest sci fi series is “The Expanse” if you really like your sci-fi your a mug if you don’t watch this one of the greatest series ever I’m an old Trekkie but this is my favourite show
I would vehemently argue that The Expanse got better AFTER it's weird Noir-styled first season. In fact, I thought each and every season of that show was better than the ones before it.
The video is ignorant to the fact that The Expanse was deliberate in having different themes in each season as it was tackling different theme directions. For The Expanse is 1, then followed Foundation. Not to mention that The Expanse is one of the most scientifically accurate sci-fi out there.
Should really have For All Mankind in there, and it goes without saying that you forgotten The Expanse is number 1. Must give Dark another go and I'll try that office based one whatever it's called too. Cheers.
Nah, I think Dark being nr 1 is correct. Not too long, actually makes you think, takes you far, far away and leaves you emotionally touched. Just the sophistication of Dark alone, blows them all out of the water. Expanse? Tried watching it many times, but I just can't get into it. It's boooring a..f. Political intrigue is boring stuff. Just not for me. The fact that Dark has higher ratings across the board says it all.
Thank you for your time. The Expanse was fantastic. Waiting for season 2 for The Last of Us. West World started fantastically, started season 3, and never finished. Severance was very good. Great cast. 3 Body Problem was good. Silo was great, second season coming. Foundation was great. Mandalorian was very good, but Disney sucks. Fall Out was very good. Dark was fantastic, so great.
Nobody seems to know about "Avenue 5", one of the best, comedy/sci-fi shows I've seen recently. I hope it gets added to one of these lists soon, so it gets the exposure it deserves.
“The Expanse” the most realistic Sci Fi series but Books are much better and they didnt recorded all books into series, 3 last wasnt put in series as I remember. "3 body problem" Chinese series is much better then Netflix no need to talk about books. And Foundation I need to read books but if writer of books is Isak Asimov what else to tell.
Caveat: there are elements of the Foundation TV show not in the books, the 'genetic dynasty' for example. I've read the books including way back the 'Caves of Steel' - those who know, know. The books are very talky, because Asimov wrote them as short stories, plus there are technological & societal changes that Asimov could not imagine. However imho I'd watch Foundation TV series before reading the books. Enjoy
For all those saying 'The Expanse' should be higher on the list, read the uploaders comments. They are highlighting 10 sci-fi shows that some of us may have missed or not been able to watch.Yes, ratings are mentioned but that is not always a guide for our own particular likes/dislikes. I will be looking for '3 Body Problem' as I have not seen it. Thanks 5%.
Severance is absolutely one of the most brilliant shows I've seen in years. Very excited for season 2! You should add Resident Alien (Syfy), Dark Matter and Wondla (both Apple tv). I'd say Mandalorian for 2 seasons and skip 3. I was invested in 3 Body Problem but really got bored on the last couple episodes. Maybe that's just a me body problem.
Dark is my second fav after Expanse. The only problem is that not only the same characters appear at different ages, but they have also similar names. Imagine 5 copies for each of 2 guys and they are Michel and Michael
As a fan of Azimov's original trilogy, I would have moved Foundation much further down the list, possibly having it fall of the bottom. It touches on the general premise of psychohistory, but diverts uneccessarily from the pages...I say uneccessarily, but really all of the divergences serve as opportunities for flashy special effects. This is readily apparent to viewers familiar with the novels. I would say Foundation succeeds only if you are not familiar with Azimov's text (which includes no generational clones or space elevators). But the CGI IS pretty, for those who care about appearances. Conversely, The Expanse is far too far down on the list. It is blessed with having the authors of the books as its showrunners, not leaving room for the pratfalls of Foundation. Silo is absolutely brilliant, thanks in no small part to Rebecca Ferguson's stunning performance. I am bitting at the bit for season 2. I feel similarly about Severance which becomes more and more disturbing with each episode. Can't wait to discover the point of the numbers and confessions. (are they killing people ?) I haven't watched Dark yet, so I cannot comment on whether I agree that it deserves its 1st place finish, but if I would have picked MY top spot entry it would have to be Ridley Scott's "Raised by Wolves" - the most unworthy series cancellation since Farscape. They ended it just as it had become absolutely addictive. It was disappointing not to see it even get an honourable mention in your list.
@@alfredthegreat9543 But all my friends who did not grow up with the original trilogy absolutely love it. Someone should tell Apple that changing an original to such an extent is sacrilege even if the unfamiliar like what you've done.
The Expanse is exceptionally good and it’s a crime it was cut short. It’s light year’s ahead of everything else in this list save, Foundation. Number 10?! Do me a favour..
"DARK" is very good. Had to watch it twice to fully understand it. Netflix, when translating it, should have used common American names to make it easier to follow. Definitely worth the watch. I have been less than impressed with the Mandalorian. It's like watching a 70's SciFi with better effects.
Dark and Expanse are both brilliant, for very different reasons. I felt Foundation strayed so too far from the source material, it ended up just a CGI show pony.....looks good, but that's it.
Great list 👍🏼 Lazarus project. The Capture. Raised by Wolves. The Peripheral. Taboo. Into the Badlands. The Boyz. Gen-V. True Detective Night Country. Orphan Black. (original 😱5⭐s🤯) & new one. Monarch Legacy of Monsters. SEE. Class of 09 SHOGUN are a few more. 😁
The HBO/MAX Series WESTWORLD is very underrated because it is a deeply psychological/philosophical, sci-fi apocalyptic thriller that doesn’t dumb itself down to cater to a broader tv audience. It will be a sci-classic for generations.
3 Body Problem didn't get out of my head for months - for me the best by far. And "Dark" starts soo boring that I always fall asleep in the first episode - never got further.
Chinese 3 body on Amazon is so much better than the Netflix junk version. What, actually stay close with the book. Great actors. Hard work to follow with translation but still first rate.
The Foundation is awful. It has very little to do with Asimov's novel. If someone watches the series, then reads the book they are going to be very disappointed.
Am so over these dystopian earth shows, depressing and often unoriginal. Sci fi doesnt need to be that, it can be uplifting and point to possible great advancements and achievements, not hiding from zombies and such.

Dark is the best sci fi show of all time. Period. Fantastic writing. Great execution and amazing finale.
Dark really is the best. There's some really good ones here, but Dark forces you to think so much about the fundamentals of life and time that it's interactive. The Expanse is a beast hopefully it comes back at some point, Dark is very good too
The Expanse blows all the rest of them away.
agreed, by sar
I've watched all the seasons twice. Great story and great characters.
A friendly banter, but no, Dark blows them all away, but The Expanse is #2 on my list. LOL
@@bigEcatMan I'm glad to hear you say that. I've been dry for good sci-fi for a couple months now and I've been considering DARK.

Yep, the moment it came 10: The Expanse. I was, that's it I'm done here.
I've tried so many times to watch it, but I can't get into it. It's incredibly boring to me.
Dark is levels above it.
Dark is easily the most sophisticated of these shows and quality levels are consistent from start to finish.
"The expanse" is a winer. And "falling skies" is a sure top 2 if we dont limit ourselves to the last 5 years.
Amos IS that guy, I’ll take me a double helping of Camina Drummer any day, and pretty sure Bobby Draper identifies as a Gundam.
I would remove „The Mandalorian“ and use a different order, e.g. promote „The Expanse“.
Definitely. The expanse was excellent.
I would vehemently argue that The Expanse got better AFTER it's weird Noir-styled first season. In fact, I thought each and every season of that show was better than the ones before it.

You seem to have got this list back to front. Surely you meant to put The Expanse as #1 ?
1. The Expanse 2. Foundation 3. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 4. The Mandalorian
you put expanse on 10 .. and last of us on 9 ... we´re done talking :D lol

The Expanse should be #1, as many other people have said here. I'd remove Foundation and The Mandalorian; and add Andor and Sweet Tooth.
I agree. Andor should be on the list instead of Mandalorian. Mandalorian was only good for 2 seasons.
Tencent’s version of three body problem is infinitely superior to the Netflix version.

Andor?
Apple TV+ dropping hits left and right. Love to see it and hope it continues.
Agreed. Although, the bar has been low for some time now.😂

Dark is my second fav after Expanse. The only problem is that not only the same characters appear at different ages, but they have also similar names. Imagine 5 copies for each of 2 guys and they are Michel and Michael
The one amazing thing about Dark is, it got three seasons and was allowed to conclude. Plus it is great.
The problem with IMDB ratings is that it's owned by amazon...

"Alice in Borderland" is a great sci-fi show on Netflix. Had no idea where it was going but the ending was perfect.
Sadly we'll never get a live-adaptation of the rest of The Expanse story. There were 3 more books worth of story to be told.
"Stranger things" was great and "Strange New Worlds".
The Expanse's mother father son drama issue was sickening .

Agree with most of this, but Dark lost me halfway through the first season. I’d replace it with Andor.

The Expanse at 10. Okay...
A list without one off the Star Trek series, especially "Strange New Worlds", is not worth watching! 🤨
gave way too much to apple...Expanse shold not hate been 10th
Silo isn't an original show. It's based on Hugh Howey's Wool novel series.
1. Dark
2. Westworld
3. Severance
4 PKD - Electric Dreams (2017…)
5. Constellation
6. Foundation
7. Love, Death & Robots
8. DEVS
9. Black Mirror (s5)

The Expanse is the best one and , The Last of Us and The Mandalorian aren't sci fi shows .
How is a Apocalypse and Star Wars spin off show not sci fi?
@Crashed131963 Science fiction is about advancement in SCIENCE and technology and explaining it somehow . Those two shows don't do that .
