The goal of this drum lesson is to teach how to catch hits and match the note value of the music being played. After being clean and having good timing, I believe it is close to being the most important skill for a drummer to have. ESPECIALLY if you want to record on albums.

This is crazy. You know, I didn’t even realize I’ve been doing this for quite some time. I picked up this principle in high school Jazz. I was trying to play big and my conductor told me that the big cymbals weee washing everything out; he told me to substitute tom or hi-hat hits in for some of those to space out and clean up the phrasing. 🔥🔥🔥 ESPECIALLY when recording. Too much cymbals will wash out the fills.
