My friends and I had a shotgun pulled on us at “Hobbit Land” in the early 1990’s. There was a community of “people of shorter stature” who lived there for decades. The homes were incredibly small cottages and it was surreal. They’re completely gone and it looks nothing like it did back in the day. At 45, I feel incredibly bad the residents were constantly getting harassed by trespassers like myself. You’re also next to Westminster college which had the “Utah Mental Facility” exterior shot used in “Silent Night, Deadly Night” (1984). Love seeing you in my City of Salt! Keep doing your thing full tilt Adam! ❤️🕶✌️ 🎄 🪓
I am so glad they finally opened the Allen area. It has been closed for years and yes the prior people were not cool if you went in there. I just read that Salt Lake City bought the property and they are trying to restore it. The reason really makes this a relaxing video.
Nothing like a deer encounter! When I hike in the woods it is not uncommon to come up on a deer. Those two bucks seemed very comfortable with you being there! They are amazing creatures. It was a moment. Safe travels to you my friend!
I was born and raised in SLC. Spent the first twenty years of my life there -- 70s and 80s. Adam, you're doing a fine job of exploring the coolest, underground places in the valley. Props. My cousin and I discovered the Hobbitland neighborhood in the late 80s. People lived in all the houses. We (secretly) skateboarded in the pool. We loved the bohemian feel of the place. We lived on 1300 East, just down the street from there. In fact, if you want to go very underground, check out the triangular-shaped billboards on 700 S and 1300 E. We built a secret skateboard ramp hidden and completely enclosed by these billboards. I believe you cam still see remnants of the ramp behind the billboards.
I just love how every single one of your videos feels like the behind the scenes footage from a more polished video that doesn’t exist. Please, please never change.
This was a real hippie place in the 60's and 70's. I had a friend living in one of the apartments and they were studio size. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. 💜
Oh Adam!!!! The deer encounter was so beautiful!!! It made my day. I know I've said it a million times Mr Woo but your vlogs can change my perspective on things when my day isn't so great. Thank you again sir. 💓
I remember being tasked to help Mrs. Allen for a few days, 40 years ago. It was mostly falling into ruin and the birds were gone even then. It was beautiful inside the main house, but it was stacked to the rafters with old newspapers. There was another place nearby that I was told was hobbit-land back then.
The Unexpected Journey of Adam the Woo ASMR. Love the rainy bits.. the deer encounter was amazing super rare! Who knew this even existed in Salt Lake City. What a gem! Thank for bearing up with the inclement weather the show us a truly truly treasure! ❤️
There is something pretty soothing about hearing the rain land on a solid surface, especially upon an umbrella. Mix that with the dulcet tones of Adam with some nice scenery to boot and you have a pretty relaxing video!
Many of the homes inside Allen Park were moved there from other locations around the valley. One of which is a home built by my wife’s early ancestors (Thomas Boam) in the 1850’s. One of the first built in The SL Valley. It’s still standing inside Allen Park. We were there a few months back checking it out. The peacocks name is Anthony.
This is an amazing place. Thank you. I love deer. They walk through our yard. If they see you though, they run. Very hard to photograph. You need to go to the Wisconsin Dells. They have a deer park. You walk amongst them and feed them. It's magical. xx
“I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree,” wrote Joyce Kilmer in 1913 from a bedroom window looking out upon a winding network of fall colors in rural New Jersey.
One of the reasons Adam i love watching your channel, you just never know quite what's coming, never heard of hobitville, to live there before it decayed must of been amazing, definitely a treasure and a piece of history, Thankyou
I've always wondered about this place, as I used to pass it often on my way to the University of Utah. There were always stories about Hobbitville and its inhabitants. I heard everything from, a community where little people lived, to a place where skinheads hung out. In any case, the people were viewed as mean and I would hear that they would throw rocks at you or even slash your tires if you tried to get in. I think all of the stories drew a lot of people and that's probably why they would run people off, as people wanted to find out about it. I later read that the person who built the place, designed it to be a kind of bird sanctuary.
its legit. I had a hammer thrown at my car back in 2014 when we would drive thru it on weekends. The security was a big guy with tattoos and always had his shirt off and had a hammer or pipe in his hand.
Beautiful place! Love nature and seeing the stream, the squirrel, the peacocks and the mule deer bucks with new growing antlers in velvet.....the sound of the raindrops is very soothing .....thanks, stay safe..🙏❤
Great video! I had to look it up, apparently there were 8 people living there until the city evicted(condemned?) them in early 2019. Also lovely pictures of the birds.
I hadn't realised that Salt Lake City could be so green and so wet! Hobbitville is an interesting place, although of course the original Hobbits lived in holes in the ground.
"Do you have a hobbit name?" lol, your banter with members of the animal kingdom is quite adorable ... and the way those two deer were eyeball-ing you was so cute. love that the rain did not deter the animals, it actually added charm to the ambiance of Hobbitville, this place is enchanting, despite its conditions. thank you for taking us here.
I've always heard of Hobbitville and remember the days when people actually lived there...but today was my first time there. Thank you. I managed to get some good peacock feathers. Staff puts them in the fence and you are welcome to take as many as you want. Those duplexes were brought and dropped there from the Japanese encampment in the Utah Desert. Enjoy your videos.
I love how you can get excited about the simple things in life. I live in east Tennessee and driving at night can be scary with deer running out in front of you. I take it slow and marvel at them. Loving this journey you are on.💚
Adam became a Disney princess like one mile from my house...Peacock, Chipmunk, Deer...oh my!!! I've been to Hobbitville many times and it was quite the place back in the day. It is driving me crazy you are hanging out in my neighborhood and there is no meet and greet...oh well...
Those houses are so cool - like little cabin duplexes!!! I would love to live in one of them!!! What a fantastic place to o find for a video!!!! Double Attaboy, Adam the Woo!!!!
Fascinating video. I drove through there with my friends back in the '90s more or less to get freaked out from all the crazy rumors we heard growing up. There were people living in those houses at that time. It was creepy. Seeing it in the daylight all these years later is so intriguing. Thank you for the video.
My brother The Woo this is a great trip your on yoy are an animal conversonist love the chats with animals its classic you see a lot of great places take care thanks for the job that you do !!!
I’d always heard rumors of this place when I lived in Utah. I’d heard that there were little people that actually lived there and did not welcome guests. Guests would be run off with rocks and aggression. Cool to actually see it.
It was great to hear how much Adam enjoyed seeing the deers. I think at one point one of them started to wave at Adam but then realized that they didn’t know each other so he did the old fixing my hair routine. Isn’t that embarrassing when that happens?
Trying to picture that place in its heyday is tough but I bet it was amazing. Thanks for the great content Adam, i would have never known about this place.
Ever been to Yankeetown FL? Claim to fame, Elvis Presley made the movie "Follow That Dream" I am a native of that town ,my family grew up moving from island to island. What is funny you have to drive through Crackertown to get to Yankeetown.
OMG! You had to mention the bike incident.... still makes me laugh so hard but cringe at how it must of hurt all at the same time. You know what, if you had some nuts that Squirell would of been on you... some bread or some apples and at least one of those deer looked ready to walk to you..... so awesome...... so love this type of place... history and peaceful and some nature too.... the rain actually made it enjoyable to listen too as you wandered around.. Those peacocks are so lovely. What a joyful place. Happy travels Adam..,
Deer usually don't approach people. In most situations, deer run away from humans, especially female does with their fawns. Usually, the only wild deer that attack humans are bucks, and only when they are aggressively pursuing or protecting their young.
If preserved, these buildings could be used as Morning Glory Circle Two....Beautiful footage captured here. The rain ambiance makes this even more special. What happened to this community and why did it fail? Looks like a special place. Hope whoever can keep it alive and going.
i'm just appreciating a vlogging legend. You have such a great communication cadence, wonderful use of silence, and so full of excitment.
Very kind of you to say thank you for watching

Such a mashup of feelings!! It’s beautiful and serene yet sad and broken down. It must have been a true delight in its hay day. Thanks for the tour!

What a great tour. The rain 🌧 made it so interesting to watch! I was intrigued with all of your narrating details. The animals present were beautiful.
