Thoughts? Concerns? Was it what yall thought?
Personally, I'm impressed.
What's up with the speedo? That can affect trans shift points, and pressure if the ecm reads the same thing.
@@dayoungdaddy I'm not sure. It only does that when I foot brake it.
Have you tried finding a PID on the scanner to see where it loses signal? I'm guessing you have all torque management maxed out?
@dayoungdaddy I haven't. I logged the other pass. We will see maybe what's happening
Bro, I'm excited for you! There's a bunch of us out here with these TB's with the Atlas 4200 motors that love seeing what can be done with this platform without breaking the bank!🥰👍🏿 Thanks to Calvin we know there's a lot of potential in this motor to make big power with basically stock engine. Thank you for sharing 👍🏿
I have always known WHY I wanted to boost my 4200. The questions were really: how, and should I? I love that you're taking on this platform, and look forward to you doing what I've always wanted to! I found your channel by accident, and I'm just starting this playlist, so here's to hoping it ends well and is inspirational!
13.4 in the 1/4 mile truly isn't that bad. Massive improvement over stock. With a few more tweaks a high 12 is definitely obtainable. I look forward to more content on the turbo Atlas.
I agree. Even with cooler weather alone it's possible. But im badly with the baseline numbers
13.4 definetly isn't bad. Thats stock 370z territory. High 12s like you said definitely are possible
And he still has the spare tire & back seat in right? Shed those few pieces & that should help! Wait until he upgrades the suspension 👍🏿
Nice work on getting a 13.4, once you can get some of that 60’ time down you are in the high 12’s with that MPH. And btw that would be classified as a midsize SUV 😂. Well done!!
It’s a truck at the end of the day
To see the rear view of the 2nd race, and how quickly you were able to reel him in,
was a great representation, of the quite extreme difference made when you shove air down the throat of this motor.
This is great to see, as you can count on one hand, the number of builders who have video documented
the turbo charging of the 4200. I'm loving seeing this, as I am a big fan of this particular Atlas.
You earned yourself a sub from me, my friend.
I have owned 2 TB's. One of them I bought new in 09, it still had factory motor and trans when I was t-boned at 385k.
About a year later I bought an 06 with 126k just because that first one never once let me down.
I drug a 5x8 job trailer all across the country for several years, and vehicles are just moving metal to me,
so I don't baby them, or abuse them, but I do whatever I want to.
There was a story that I and 2 co-workers were in Nashville all night (no trailer) and the job was in Ky.
We (allegedly) left at 3 a.m to meet a truck by 7 a.m., it was said that the truck was held a 114 mph
(governed max I believe it was) for 3 hours-minus light traffic (allegedly), that was at around 250k, and it honestly
ran just as good as I remembered it always had, right up to the day of it's crash.
It was the least troublesome, but probably the most mistreated engine i'd ever owned.
Grown men away form their wives, 2 weeks at a time, utter debauchery at times. She wore m/s tires 1.75 lift up front and in states were it rains on dirt sometimes, we would go play with her on weekends with the locals we befriended.
It had been in the air before, (but not on a shop lift) and it has been stuck in the mud.
It has snatch strapped a very stuck 3/4t duramax out, and a few others.
It never had once left me stranded. The worst fail i had was, the fan clutch-water pump bearings,
chewed into the radiator at 2am; just as I reached my hotel room in Glenwood Springs Co. (It Never got hot.)
I understand that this was not everyone's experience, and that I had caught a unicorn by the horn.
I was starting to wonder if that thing was going to out last me.
So crank that bad boy to 11, and give er a big ol' spray while your doing it. HE...He..he. She can take it.
I love to see it man I really do bc I’ve been trying to figure everything you are doing and I want to say thank you man ima be on this Journey with you alll support!!!! Appreciate you g
Nice work bro! My BMW x5 twin turbo V8 runs 13.3's @ 104. So I would say your doin pretty damn good
You shed that back seat & spare tire & suspension work and whatever plugs & injectors you were talking about & you can get in the 12's huh? WOW man that's awesome just with a little boost👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Sweet vid. I too have followed Calvins quest on the 4200 for years. Your 4200 setup is still not releasing its full potential. I know you know that. You will soon look back on your current track times and smile at the improvements you've made. Remember 6 > 8!
I had a 04 rainier with the 5.3. Got it for 1300 because it was throwing every code possible. The next day I found out it was the plug going into the fuse box under the back seat. Body was mint and it ran amazing after that. Cut the front axles and removed the front driveshaft to make it 2wd as well. Saved me 3 to 4 mpg .
Gotta envoy Denali now but had a Rainer and do I miss it 5.3 and 3.73 gears it was moving for stock
My front diff started making noise so I just pulled the axles. I guess i should crawl under and see if I can at the front drive shaft. 3 MPG would be a good thing. Oh and it is a Asender.
It has lots of electrical issues. But the CDplayer/radio works.
That was awesome with plenty more left in it
Congratulations
I hope this kinda stuff bleeds over to the 3.5 and 3.7. Vortec supchargers made a short lived kit for the 5 cylinder back in 2006. It had a very similar in line intercooler like the one you got from Calvin.
The GM 5 cylinder should just die. The Atlas 4 and 6 cylinders are where it's at. A stick shift 4 cylinder Colorado is a riot.
So sick dude
Looks like it runs pretty good!
A few hiccups but overall decent! Always improvements to be made!
Now spray to get out the hole, and spray a lil more to get you up on boost and then spray a little bit to take advantage of an that traction in 4th gear..... Just hold down the spray. You'll go faster.
Ansome man! Love to see it!
Hey I wonder if a 2 step like the little MSD box’s would work well for it you could set it at what ever RPM you can get it to stall up to on the foot brake may help build some boost so it can leave a little harder 🤟🤟 looking good tho man!!!!
Yea I need to figure something out that's for sure.
@@J-Whit we have done it that way with a turbo jeep grand Cherokee and it worked great huge improvements! Could probably modify a LS MSD 2 step box to work change plug ends and what ever wires need changing
That Suzuki Sidekick was bananas 🤣👍🏿
If you happen to get in contact with the Rainer driver again tell him the Transfer case computer is the reason its not working. Its under the dash and is pretty easy/cheap to replace.
Awesome! Do you think a different converter would help it?
Looking forward to some 12 second passes when you get it diled in!
A converter would help it tremendously
What a beast
Also I forgot to tell you that back in like 2008 Comp Cams did make cams for the 4200. So maybe you could hunt down some or ask Comp Cams about it.
Nice!!!
Very impressed with the turbo 6!! BTW its pronounced ray-near :)
Yea I know that now haha
I would like to see it up against a SS ls2. I’ve got a 02 stock with a 4200 and also a 06 ls2 6L SS AWD
Gahdam man 13.9 is not bad at all my ATS 2.0T did a 13.7 with a 1.91 60ft!
Nice! And it did 13.4 lol
Nice dude!
Part of the problem might be related to your speedometer. Strange you're losing wheel speed during the run
Yea, so it does that every time I footbrake it. I'm going to look deeper into it.
When i weighed my 2wd TB it was close to 5000 iirc. without me in it.
Outstanding job! What's the axle ratio?
Unfortunately just a 3.42 currently. Have full 4.10 front and rear assemnlies from an SS going in soon!
9.9 to the 1/8 .. dang it you beat me
Anyone have any thoughts on swapping a 4200 into a is300, 350z? I’m not sure if it’d fit and I’m not sure about the transmission that could work.
The motor is really tall. That's going to be the only drawback I see. There are a few transmissions you can mount. A few folks are adapting cd00 trans and the ar5 will bolt up.
That is badass! 4.10 gears and a stall would edge you into the 12's. Are tou going to put an intercooler on it?
Oh and the best 1/8 i could get on my stock Aero was 9.1
Intercooler is happening asap lol
@@J-Whitdid you leave the factory limiter on?
@MrAero_1 no the limiter was raised. He changed the shift points to avoid the limiter as well.
@@J-Whitoh okay, the reason I was asking was because you couldn't go past 104-105 , I didn't know if he let the top speed limiter on or not. I found an old time slip for my Aero and on that run it was 12.9 @ 105.02, so you were definitely moving better than mine, on a roll you would definitely get me
yea i dont have the down low torque but it makes up for it up top. it does pull hard. @@MrAero_1
Big questions. Is the investment worth fuel consumption? I heard the turbos set to reg driving gets 10-13 mpg more. I'd be looking for this. Where can we get the turbo components?
So I've only driven it pm e85, which is not the most fuel effecient way to go about it. The turbo manifold is sold by Artec Performance. Many dealers out there have them. And the turbo i use is an S372. Pick your poison with whichever you want.
My AWD 9-7x 4.2 did 16.53 on my draggy app
Nice!
I am thinking that if I emptied the vehicle's contents, such as the spare tire, rear seats, etc., is it possible to bypass the 11sec barrier?
its going to be possible to make it go faster for sure. but its going to take more than weight reduction to get into the 11s in my opinion.
Some tuning and you have a 12 sec ride!
Sweet run, I'm so jealous.
Speedo still laggy
Thanks! so I noticed it only does that when I foot brake it. Any other time it doesn't do it.
@@J-Whit on mine, the solenoid in the shifter randomly clicks. TB gremlins lol
The drop: 5:58 is it the traction control? It happens to me in a stock lt. Turn the feature off
It could be. We had it completely turned off. It did the same thing on the dyno. It was a weird fuel signal loss. But it could be triggered by traction. Hadnt thought of that.
Just curious on where you found the kit at. I have looked and can’t find one.
There isnt a kit. You can buy a manifold and oil feed mod parts. The rest younjust have to make yourself.
This motor inside a firebird pulled 600hp with a full motor rebuild. 65- 75 psi and i agree its a few square feet short of a large suv and this one (TB i6 LT) is a beast and may be the best drive train gm has ever made. I have 175k miles and it out performs my expectations for a used vehicle under $3000 . It will last 498,000 miles. First hand witness. The bad side is the gas mileage. These suvs need to be re- introduced with ev and turbo upgrades. It May last a million miles. But buy a new frame and have it galvanized - then this car will be a forever vehicle.
I ❤ the older trailblazers the new ones are useless. Towing less than 1000 pounds. The 09 was the last of the real mcoys.
This is a bad ass truck/suv.
Not a car/suv do it all mom suv,
Its a mans suv!
Have you done electric fan swap.? Or you still running that crappy setup that came in the 4200s?
Have the fans ready to install. Have been running the stock mechanical fan. To be fair, that crappy setup also came on the SS lol
What do you think this costed at a total? Im thinking about boosting mine but wondering if id be better off just buy a SS
Well you can get these running and driving for cheap. But the easy to tune one's via hp tuners need to be an 08 or 09. Id say I have about 5k into the kit and tuning. You can do it cheaper too. So you could probably buy one and do this and be 6500 all in. And you're going to be the same level as an intake/cam/header tuned tbss.
so like what do I need to buy to get my 4.2 like yours
Main thongs would be an artec manifold and injectors/fuel pump. Then tune the ecu. Need to have an 06/07 or an 08/09 to run boost on the stock ecu.
What gear ratio does it have? My trailblazer does not rpm out at 104/mph? Was that in TCC? Following this closely, the 4200 is such a beast.
It has stock 3.42 gears currently. Will be going to 4.10 soon enough. If tcc is traction fully off then yes. Not sure what that is lol
So it hit the limiter at the top of 2nd. It didn't shift into 3rd because the 4l60 is not happy lol
That was gonna be my next question, how long before the 4l60 says goodbye lol. I took all torque managment out of the transmission, making it shift harsh and quick but saving the clutches ,fingers crossed :)
@@J-Whit
What hp this thing running on 9 psi
it made 440rwhp
I think Its Rainier like the Mountain
It is. You're right lol
Need a torque converter
Agreed
$1k per tenth is a relatively decent cost for a full weight SUV, i wanted to hear the girl at the ET shack about your helmet😂
Well in that case this is massive bang for your buck. Yea she caught me off guard with the helmet. I had no idea I'd require one off the bat lol
Boosted 4.3
4.2, but close lol
It will run 12s with a hard launch.
Hopefully will have a better converter soon and be able to achieve that!
It's pronounced Ray near 👍
The more you know lol
@@J-Whit no ill will intended. I live in Washington St. Our biggest Mt. Is Mt Rainer. Every time you said it made me cringe 😬 I love the Atlas. Very underrated but a very cool engine...
@kennithchapman9689 knowing how to pronounce it now makes me cringe when I hear myself say it lol
You really didn't have a intercooler for this video!!?!!!
No, it was meth injection only. Intercooler and flex fuel are next. It should pick up a good amount of power.
@@J-Whit I can't wait man. Thanks for this video.
REMOVE THAT DARN SPARE 😭
I am now haha
Ok......
yep....
Run tht in January 45 degrees probably run a 12.9😊😊 great job
thats what im thinking lol. hopefully will have the intercooler done by then.
That's pronounced Raineer, not Rainer. Mount Rainier WA
Yea i got that now lol
I have a ext 4200 3.42 250k . 5 kids and I really want to do something with this engine when she kills. Oh! $1900 rig and lots of general maintenance
why is meth injection need for a tempory joy?......run 89........bolt a supercharger,or a twin turbo kit...your done for life.. How much HP does a Magnuson Supercharger add?
Generating 6 psi of boost, the Magnuson Supercharger delivers power gains of approximately 105 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. ....thats bone stock.... stock internals, stock fuel...everythimhg...np.....add a better exhaust and a cold air setup...proffesinal tune 650hp+...your realible daily...12 second ss....easy...
It was needed here because i didnt have an intercooler. I now run an air to water intercooler and still use meth to keep charge temps extremely low.
She must have chewed you out doing mid 13s with no helmet
She was actually super nice lol
