I was an automotive tech for 10 years. Never made more then 60k. I moved to the commercial HVAC industry and now I make 100k+. This guy only makes 330k because he is a "salesman* not a tech. The residential HVAC industry is a scam to all homeowners. PARTS that should be 20 or 30 bucks are sold to residential customers at 200-300. A motor, that should cost 180 is sold at 999. These resi company's rip off customers. That's how he's made 300k. He's on commision based performace.

I’m in HVAC and started about 6 years ago, I work for a great company but I don’t make nearly this much. I have this dudes mind set and I love it. If I could’ve gotten started 10 years earlier, I would’ve. I don’t just want to walk up to the condenser and say “ well, just a bad capacitor” and go, I want to see if there is a reason why the capacitor went bad, other than age. Great podcast and I’m going to recommend my company to watch this.

Its a great privilege to have started my freshman summer and I just graduated and am at the shop full time! I can't wait to meet great guys and gals like you two. I thought long and hard about college because I did so well in school and all my friends had white collar parents. I really took your advice to get into the trade and I absolutely love hvacr & appliances as well as working in a small shop in a small town.

Heys tradesmen, not trying to throw any shade on you but you’d better be careful how you price yourselves. A lot of auto mechanics are leaving the auto industry I can tell you from first hand knowledge that it’s easier to work on houses than it is on cars.
These guys understand hvac and many other things about structure, engineering and electrical. It’s very simple for them to pick up and if you keep overpricing your labor, these guys will be able to swoop in and replace you.
I respect all of you tradesmen but don’t sleep on automotive technicians. They are way smarter than their paychecks indicate.

      100%
There is such more potential that these HVAC contractors won't even try to separate themselves from their competition. This is why when they try to sell a replacement system & install, they have to compete with 2 other companies on price.
Over 20 years ago I begin when our small company was like the only nation's specialist at buying and selling large corporate supermarkets to completely disassemble in one state and ship across the country and reassemble everything from shelving rows, walk-in coolers/freezers, open & glass door display cases to double rack bakery ovens and the front door located gum ball dispenser for independent operators.
This led to then building most of the supermarkets we wanted in our area, including the nicest new Whole Foods stores that entered into Chicago and Wisconsin along with every one of our locally owned premium product and service Sendiks grocery stores. This was the best way to learn everything that know one else knows before we really filled a gap by offered anyone anything commercial refrigeration and started 10acres with multiple buildings for each operation for used equipment refurbishing or rebuild to build out entire complete custom taverns, restaurants and grocery stores. The Refrigeration connection and Hvac install was the last thing we finally offered on as needed basis based on customer preference.
I'm impressed by your offerings as most don't even get that the ice machines you service are basically the most technically challenging pieces of equipment in the building.

remember based off of what CZcams says, you don't need any HVAC experience to sell HVAC! heck you don't even need to know how to spell it. as long as you can sell a new unit to a customer we don't care ... this is the new way of HVAC and I hate it

    • @TheTradeTalks2.0

not the average HVAC experience. not even close .

  • @Bigdawg_74
    @Bigdawg_74 Před 3 měsíci +3

It just amazes me how many of these techs and to be fair they are mostly younger in age get on CZcams and the whole video every other word is a curse word or it's nothing but them complaining about how crappy of a unit it is and how the home owner is a cheap tightwad who won't replace it with a new one so they can get commission pay. If I was the company they work for I would be down right embarrassed and mortified if a potential customer or even someone who is already a customer came across one of their videos. You can tell a lot of these guys are simply in it for the paycheck and have no customer service skills or respect whatsoever.
If I am the owner of a company before you touch a van or service call you are going through a top notch etiquette class on how to treat people and after that you are going through a situational deescalation class to learn how to handle and communicate with rude/hostile customers. If you can't properly do those 2 things then you have no business being in the service industry.

Since we live in a world of planned obsolescence more and more people will learn to install their own mini-splits made in china. I come to that conclusion after receiving bids of $6000 and $7000 to replace a 20 yr old unit. I can buy a new one for $1200 and put it in myself. When it breaks buy another.

I’m not a HVAC guy, just a handy homeowner and business man. I got quoted $6600 to install a mini split unit in one of my properties and I thought that was highway robbery. I bought all the tools and the unit. Installed it myself for less than $1200 total cost about 3 years ago.
These trades are pushing it too far. DIY guys are going to get involved and expose them.
