  • Luminance coloured pencils by Caran D'Ache are great for creating mixed media art and paintings. I'll start by swatching all of my pencils, then show you the 3 main ways I incorporate these pencils into 3 different Italian landscape scenes in my sketchbook.

    It's fantastic how you can make such beautiful art with these, I am amazed by the way you paint on top of the ink that you have splashed onto the page. Do you consider the colour and placement of the ink with regard to the subject you are then going to sketch onto it? 😊

      I'm often asked this question and honestly its totally random. The pages were likely prepared in bulk say 10 spreads at a time weeks or months ago. I just turn over the page and work on whatever is there. Let me know if you'd like to see a video on this method ?

    Your color spirit is like mine: earthy, warm, rich and deep, on the brown side. Maybe autumnal is the word. If the color blend had a taste, the taste of truffles. Or the aroma of roasted chestnuts, the ground smell of oak woods in October and November. The richness of the way these hues sort of "speak" reminds me of the way wool takes traditional dyes. You can feel the color through your hand working with materials like this. The way some people are synaesthetic, feeling one thing through the senses used for another, like tasting colors, comes more easily with a palette like this. Memory of being in a place mixes the senses for you in the deep emotional brain, and this was being in a November wood without fear.

    I love these pencils, they're so SOLID. I don't know how else to describe them, they hold up to every paper, every sharpener, every drop, every abusive thing I've done to them...and the fact that I can do a whole piece with only one color really shows they lay down both light and heavy and blend like a dream!

    These Italian landscapes are sooooooo amazing! I am fascinated how easily you create those images! From all artists that I follow, you are my favorite! :) Last summer my boyfriend gave me the box of 40 luminance pencils for my birthday and I looove using them. Because in the box, there weren`t enough greens, I bought a few green Polychromos Pencils from Faber Castell and I must say, the quality is very similar. But they only cost half of the luminance - here in Germany. Maybe its because its a german brand.

    Thank you so much!❤ This was fantastic! I really enjoyed seeing how you use the Luminance! How long do you typically wait for your watercolor base layer to dry before adding colored pencil on top? Do you find that different papers, mainly cotton vs wood pulp, dry at different rates for using this technique? Do you use this technique while on the go… sketching outside? I’ve been trying this technique with colored pencil over watercolor or watercolor pencils and sometimes I get frustrated with having to wait for drying time. I mainly use Museum Aquarelle (I carry 50 different pencils 😂), and Derwent Drawing with a few favorite Luminance colors like Dark Indigo 639, Grey Blue 755, Paynes Grey 50%, and Dark Phthalo Green 719. I find these Luminance colors fill in the gaps and compliment the Derwent Drawing 24 set for me. I would definitely love to see more of what you do with colored pencils. Your videos are so inspiring, and such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for taking the time to record, edit, create these videos! Edited to say… I really like that Caran D’Ache gives the pigment information for both the Luminance and the Museum Aquarelle, but did it a tiny bit frustrating that they don’t have the exact same set of pencils in both lines, and that some colors with the same names/numbers can look quite different. 😆

    • @OhnMarWinArt
      @OhnMarWinArt  Před rokem +1

      I love hearing what other artists enjoy using. The watercolor drying time really depends on several factors 1)the weather or season 2)size of brush 3)water ratio. Painting in south of France in summer compared to autumn in NYC will mean different wait times when on location. If I’m at home I’ll use a gentle hair dryer
