  • Bulk buys are great, especially when they include little gems like this prewar 2689W!

Yes everytime we been metal it's a blessing when it doesn't break.

The part number for the adapter is:TT-100. I hope that helps. BTW, nice job. The only thing I have done differently is to add a rubber grommet in the tender base, to protect the wires.

I believe the wire attached to the screw on the underside of the tender is to improve the relay ground, since from what I understand the relay is just riveted to its bracket. This was discussed as an improvement in one of Jim Barrett's workshops on VHS tape (for O Gauge Railroader Magazine). Very good video, A+++

Nice job Warren! I had to do a job like that myslf a yar or two ago but it was a metal post-war tender instead of a pre-war. I'll tell you, I found getting the shell back ON was harder than getting it off!
What I'd do at this point is if you don't want to start a collection of pre-war cars try and find a pre-war with similar couplers and replace one truck with a post-war one, make a "bridge" car for lack of a better term.
    Fun video! Thanks!

Another nice, informative video. Do you think these old tenders needed to have 2 pickup rollers?

I'm not sure if they really need 2 pick up rollers, but Lionel gave it 2 for some reason. More consistent or better contact with the rail?
I have an earlier prewar tender that has only has one. Its mounted on the frame between the trucks. Thats its original setup and it works fine. This maybe something worth investigating and making a video for.
