Your conclusion is spot on. It's very hard for a car to pursue a motorcycle in heavy traffic/urban environment. More police on motorcycles are needed in order to properly pursue and tackle moped thieves. The reason why they still do it is because they know that most of the time they'll get away with it.

In Portugal we have police in GS's that always ride two up and in groups of 3 bikes, in motorcycle/riot gear. They are the quick response of the quick response teams. I don't understand why there isn't something similar given the fact that London is far more dangerous than Portugal.

I am actually disgusted that this video has any dislikes, obviously the little gang rats are disliking it, or maybe people who don't like how the uploader is breaking road laws, but I think it's necessary to remove these vermin from the streets.
As a motorcyclist myself and a car driver I would say helping the police by information on the suspects vehicle is great. However chasing the suspect/suspects yourself at quite high speeds and weaving through traffic narrowly missing other vehicles puts other road users at risk and of course yourself. I believe the met do now have a specialist unit for dealing with moped/scooter and motorcycle thieves so it would be better leaving them to it. Excellent job with the blowout on the M11,good riding skills,many a seasoned rider would struggle with a blowout at speed.

I've just watched the video in full mate, be careful man. I work in orthopaedic trauma and see a ton of bike accidents. I get what you're doing but if you know you're on a bad tyre don't even attempt a pursuit, it's already high risk riding as it is. Stay safe
As much as it is appreciable what he’s doing I also think he shouldn’t. If he causes, untrained and definitely not allowed by law, with his driving an accident, maybe even with a fatal outcome, was it then worth all the shit driving? There is a reason why even the coppers sometimes stop pursuing, when the risk of putting civilians in danger of getting hurt, injured or even killed they stop pursuing but he thinks he’s Super Dave and never will have an accident? Get the registration and point the coppers in the right direction and your job is done, he won’t even be insured if the insurance company ever will get an eye on his behaviour and actions. Like I said, I appreciate his intentions, this wankers need to be stopped and jailed but it’s nit his job. We also need police units with drones. Especially in the estates, a thief that knows the area can disappear from the shed next door without any police officer in motorbike noticing it. A drone unit can chase and pinpoint the escape, by providing the whereabouts to any police unit in the area that can close up and chase without endangering members of the public.
It's illegal to stand on the hard shoulder lad, they can issue a fine for standing in the shoulder lane, so try and stand nearer the muddy bit,which we all hate. I've even had a lecture for standing on the hard shoulder so be aware.

Lots of years ago we had police on dirt bikes in Sweden. Not many but a few. It made a big difference.

We also need police units with drones. Especially in the estates, a thief that knows the area can disappear from the shed next door without any police officer in motorbike noticing it. A drone unit can chase and pinpoint the escape, by providing the whereabouts to any police unit in the area that can close up and chase without endangering members of the public.

It's illegal to stand on the hard shoulder lad, they can issue a fine for standing in the shoulder lane, so try and stand nearer the muddy bit,which we all hate. I've even had a lecture for standing on the hard shoulder so be aware.
Build some bait bikes, put an air bag under the seat with a timer, slows them right down. Makes them easy to catch.
