  • The Arizona bark scorpion is a small species of venomous scorpion commonly found in the Arizona desert, and unfortunately throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. In and outside homes!
    As a real estate agent, I talk to people everyday who are thinking about moving to Arizona and they inevitably ask me about scorpions. Here's the answers to the most common questions I get.

    the sting itself isn’t really that bad, a kind of electrical tingling hot poker feeling, but immediately afterwords the localized point of the sting begins to hurt with an intense burning pain, it only lasts a while. i’ve been stung twice once when i was a kid we had shag carpet and i thought it was a cactus thorn until it socked me with the venom. it made my leg twitch and jerk every so often, but i lived. the second time, i was about 43 and stepped into my kitchen barefoot, we used to get them crawling out from under the sink area, and i looked down and said to myself, “i better look before i step, there may be a scorpion” there was no scorpion when i looked, but he must’ve crawled out really quick because when i stepped i immediately felt the electric sting. little bastard!

      @CelinaAcostaRealEstate  Před rokem

      Thanks! Well turns out scorpions are not really considered "insects" because they don't have 6 legs, they have 8 just like a spider! 😦 They also have two body segments and insects have 3, so they are under the class Arachnida, same as spiders. But people still call them insects. 🙃

    I was stationed down at Luke AFB in the early eighties. We used to go out and hunt for Mohaves and Sidewinders in the White Tanks, skin'em, wet the cardboard and the skin, press them on the cardboard and they would peel off like cellophane paper in the morning when they were dry. But I never tampered with scorpions. We had a paper bag under our kitchen sink and I used to crush soda cans flat and throw them in the bag. After about two months the bag was full so I pulled it out. A black widow had built a massive web between the back of the bag and the wall. And there was like three hundred tiny baby widows just hanging out. Between 116 degrees on the flight line, the sand storms and our sink pets I was not even a little disappointed with my reassignment to McChord AFB in Washington.

      Oh no! I don't know if you would do if I saw a black widow with a bunch of babies anywhere in my kitchen! And I don't blame you for being glad to leave at the end LOL. I hope you're enjoyed Washington. Take care and thanks for the comment.

    The one that stung me didn’t get the memo about stinging like a bee. It hurt far worse and the pain kept me awake all night. The pain subsided about 12 hours later but numbness continued in the sting area for almost a week.

I was younger, 2. it was in my face, right under my eye, and 3. I interrupted the scorpion sting so i don't think it fully stung me so I remember the sting being very painful but not more than the wasp. But yes, the effects can last a couple of days.

    Eastern washington has the sa.e looking scorpion, I've seen 3. Bigger worry is the black widow spider. Not too much of a problem really. Rattlesnakes are the biggest threat, but the do give you plenty of warning.

    Okaay! I'm also an lifelong Arizonian. What species are the one that grows 10"-12" long? I see scorpions all the time but, these past few years I come across these huge ones. Three years ago my brother and caught two huge Scorpions on the same day. Both were about 12" in length. I had a big pickle jar and we captured them both. It was a party attraction as we showed them to our friends and family. Eventually we let them go, not far from our house. Here's the problem. I haven't seen pictures or some sort of information on these large scorpions anywhere. I bet if I were to go back and search them again, I'll catch some more .

      What? 10-12 inches long?😱 I need to see a picture of this jar with the giant scorpion. Could they be the "Arizona Giant Hairy Scorpion"? But even those only grow to 9 to 10 inches max, so this one was an oversized one. It had to be one of those!

    They do travel in packs. Two of those bastards stung me at the same time. one got me on my arm and the other got me outside my balls sack. I had to go to the emergency room. The symptoms were heart pupations, serve pain the stung area. as the venom traveled through my body. I lost feeling in my hands and feet. As I agonized for 12 hours I aloo experienced sever body spasms from the intercity of the pain. I was given IV. with Fentanyl and Valium to ease the pain. I was given Benadryl for the allergy. No joke those fuckers can kill you.I got to the hospital just in time. I was having problems breathing..
