This channel is like a palette cleansing sorbet, a bastion of old world hospitality and what it means to be an old world gentleman. In the modern world of 140 character thoughts projected at light speed Kirby invites you sit down, relax, have a good cigar, a good single malt, have a good conversation with friends and look impeccable while doing it.
Good, good, good. What, what old boy?
Well said, I agree.
This is just for the privileged few ! Didn't watch til the end, not representative of the majority.
Poncey bollox😂
When it comes to covering Savile Row and London Heritage, Kirby Allison is in a class of his own.
You are too kind.
I've eaten at Rules several times and my overwhelming sense of it is that although it's a grand place, it's also very warm and welcoming. I don't think anyone ever feels out of place there.
I hate pretentious stuff and to be honest, am very curious about visiting this restaurant
Old School .
Hello,
I am about to visit London during this year and deffinitely want to dine at Rules, because I really love old style establishments, but what about quality? Is the staff, service, food the way it should be? High quality?
Thank you
You immediately feel like getting on the next plane and eating out at The Rules. Thank you Kirby for the great insights.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We saw no food? None. A video about a restaurant...
I'm fairly sure it's just "Rules"
@@kirbyallison ll ok l
@@vrfvfdcdvgtre2369 Places like this don't need to sell themselves over CZcams to the hordes. And yes, there were a few images to get the point across.
The restaurant is overwhelmingly grand.
The heritage and traditions they value i love .
To stay private it fantastic.
🇦🇺 i can always dream .☺💖
What an absolute enchanting place, this is definitely on my list in 2022. Well done Kirby yet again you have showcased a fantastic piece of not only History but the legacy of this establishment.
P. S. I wonder if Ricky is a distant relative of mine.
A positively delicious presentation Kirby. Thanks.
The last time I visited Rules with a pal we had no reservation and it would’ve been an hour wait for a table.
No problem at all - Ricky took care of us.
We enjoyed a couple of Old Fashioned cocktails upstairs and decided to dine there ‘next time’.
The value for money in Rules is simply amazing. The only place who can perform English cuisine anywhere close is (perhaps) Marks Club.
The red legged Partridge in Marks Club is to be saluted!
Rules may be just behind Budd Shirtmakers as my favourite place in London!
My wife and I will be dining at Rules in a weeks time, celebrating her birthday.
Kirby I love Rules during the Christmas season. In fact my husband and I try travel to London during the first two weeks in December. It’s just magical. I love your channel and I just followed you on Instagram 😊
Very elegant restaurant, I wish I could be there. Thank you for your video!
Very pleasant video, thanks. I understand this channel is about style and tradition, not cuisine but I do wish we could have SEEN some the food being discussed. The martini mixing at the end was a delight.
That is such a beautiful dining room. It took my breath away.
Perfection!
I love Rules, a must-visit institution here in London.
A genuine London landmark. Haven’t been for some years, however this video has prompted me to back again in the near future.
Conservatory type spaces are one of my favorite things. Such a nice adaptation to the weather.
Must be one of the most interesting restaurants in the world. I can see the table where I first sat there, in awe of all the decoration.
Have eaten here a few times and a couple of memorable things stick out!
1. An American diner had 2 main courses which shocked me.
2. Our server said the night before we ate, a very famous American singer was in, when they paid their bill, their credit card declined payment .
Food is always great here, and not a celebrity chef in site, this eatery make memories for life!
3 generations of our family have eaten here.
I have lunched here on several occasions and have never left disappointed. First class service, food and ambience make each visit memorable. James N.
I love Rules, and don't get to dine there enough. They used to make a brilliant Brown Windsor Soup years ago, but I've not seen it on the menu in ages. Next time you're in London, though, try Wilton's when you're in Jermyn Street if you haven't, or my favourite, Otto's on Grays Inn Road. They were doing takeaway Canard a la Presse during Covid lockdown if you can believe it (stunning as always but better with the tableside service in house). I was last there about a month ago and the lobster soufflé was astounding. Said to be the best steak Tartare in London, and I see no reason to disagree - made at table too, like it used to be, for a bit of added Dinner Theatre. Otto is a charming host to boot!
Wow it feels so warm and classy. I have to go there in my lifetime.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. This will be a “must” on my next trip to London!
another great video from Kirby, thanks a lot!
such a nice restaurant!
Thanks Kirby. Wonderful that you're taking us inside such a special place.
Glad you enjoyed it
My kind of place, beautiful and elegant. Truly only the British know the essence of real elegance.
Good to see London still
Keeping its history and class.
I'm shocked that my many times in London during the 80s and 90s I've missed this restaurant!
However venison in Montreal and Quebec city is quite well known if not famous which also surprises me that Texans would not be familiar to this exquisite dish in all it's forms accompanied by a proper claret. Well done Kirby. P.S. I'm sure that that their wine cellar must be as incredible as their menu!
Thank you for the tour! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
One of my favourite videos so far.
Im going to rules this evening, can't wait!
A visit to this resturant is a must.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Decor of this place is amazing. Attention to detail that many places don’t put effort into into today’s fast food society.
Missed it on my last trip, planning to go next spring, thanks for the video sir.
Love this! Great video,thanks 🙏
Very enjoyable and an addition to bucket list.
What history and elegance, this is a destinational stop !!!!
Beautiful place indeed. Thank you for the great video
Glad you enjoyed it
One of my favourite historic London restaurants too, along with Simpson's-in-the-Strand.
Simpsons is indeed another excellent one Karl!
Is not Simpsons much older??
Great upload. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to dining here soon.
Kirby, what an interesting discussion on fine foods. I really must make a trip to rules. Also I absolutely love game meat, fresh rabbit is wonderful.
Wonderful! I hope to stop in for a drink next week when I’m down in London
Professional mixologist, no unnecessary flair and full emphasis on the quality of the drinks
To much hand contact with the rim of the glasses used for mixing also touched the ice with his hands as well as sqeezed the small thin slice of lemon with his hands letting the juice drip down his fingers and nails into the drink.no thanks..
Kirby again thanks for the personal service on the phone just before Thanksgiving....back in Mexico City now. The look on your face with the first taste of the Martini....wow....totally jealous here. Need to visit Rules with Claudia.
Absolutely marvellous!
Kirby pleaseeee do some more cigar videos. Can't seem to get enough of them.
More coming Kyle!
this channel would make a great TV show too. High Quality filming and interesting content. Keep doing the great work.
Outstanding
Added to the bucket list
Have been there a few times .Delightful place.
Great video! !
Been there a few times and my auntie had her retirement party there, it has a lovely atmosphere and great staff. Had the potted shrimp a few years ago and was lovely, had it again a few weeks ago and sadly was not as good. Had the Sunday roast which was ok. A lovely place but the only thing that put me off my food was having Maggie Thatcher bearing over me!
I am so glad I found your channel for the cigars but this is like a bonus. My gf doesn’t understand why I like fancy suits and food but I explained to her in a past life I was British lol
Haha. Lol. You and me both.
Kirby Allison is by far the best undertaker in the biz. He’ll do his best to accommodate you.
Some Rules are made to be ...followed! Ps really enjoy these lifestyle segments.
I love your London videos.
Charming! It's a fantastic idea to showcase iconic historic restaurant(s); would also recommend to showcase best hotels in the world - writing this from Author's Lounge in Bangkok's no. 1 historic hotel established in 1876.
Beautiful restaurant!
Hello Kirby, great video! I would also appreciate a video regarding winter dress shoe care. I find that winters can be quite hard on shoes even in the city and I have not been able to find comprehensive care instructions.
Had the pleasure of eating there just a couple weeks ago. Wonderful (and generous) cocktails, superb food and excellent service. Not cheap, but not overpriced either - worth every penny. Try booking for lunch if you can't get a dinner reservation - the menu is the same.
Great place. I try to visit it once a year
:) very nice and brings back memories.
Well done.
love the videos
I visited there in 1999. Our bank invited a few clients to a private meal on the evening of the Chancellor's Budget and we were taken through the budget implications by a senior economist. The meal and company was memorable.
Next trip back to London it's on my list of things to do.
Your channel…is…just wonderful….my cup of tea indeed 😄👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I’m going to Rules in October 2023…looking forward to the game in the menu 🦌 😋😋😄😉
Great food 👍 love this place
My lottery bucket list gets longer with each video
Nice Scottish accent there. Guaranteed warm welcome.
My favourite place to eat, but please get a jacket that fits you, or undo the button!!!!
Beautiful suit Mr. Allison!
I'll definitely be there in late June
Every time I go to London I go to Rules since I celebrated my 25th birthday in 1995 😁😁. And now my boyfriend and I are looking forward to go in May. Can't await it
WOW outstanding video. God bless our European brothers and sisters 🙏
Ate there last December and it was excellent. Superb service and absolutely delicious food. We ate at Heston Blumenthal’s 2 star Michelin restaurant Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental- Rules was superior in every way. Any trip to London should include a stop at Rules.
I bet Hestons cost a fortune whereas Rules is fairly affordable.
Jugged hare, now that is a proper old skool British dish you don’t see very often!
What a delight.
One year after a days walked shooting over spaniels my share of the bag was a pigeon,a rabbit and badly shot pheasant which had been taken far too close.I portioned the first two and took the breast off the pheasant, marinaded all the meat overnight in a bottle of Chilean red and casseroled it serving it with baked potatoes and fresh broad beans.40 years later I still remember that meal.
May I also suggest Claridges for afternoon tea. Such a lovely understated experience and the staff were so willing, proud and pleased to show my wife and I some of the rooms with their wonderful furnishings. English art deco at its finest. But don't book dinner at Rules for later that day - you won't do it justice.
dude, thats a womens thing. men have lunch.
@@robinhooduk8255 , that response perhaps says more about you than it does about me...
The scent of Empire is overwhelming.
The Alaskan state bird is Ptarmigan. It's good!
Took my fiancée there for her 30th. Loved every minute of it.
went to the jubilee, visited the restaurant on my birthday for lunch, no reservation, just walked in , def recommend
Its always good to see you and your money is equally welcome..if not a little more so.. lol. Great upload and Rules has earned a place on my bucket list. An other great upload will be a docu about the traditional gun makers in england.
that is a good idea, that we are actually trying to get planned Ash!
man by the looks of the place i expected this to be uber expensive and i checked the menu online and it’s actually very reasonable and comparable price wise to most mid range restaurants. if i ever go to london i will def go there
Nothing says "Ye olde London restaurant" like having a Scottish manager. 😁
Have you done a video on annabels? It would be nice to see inside there as it has expanded massively in recent years?.
Very interesting...
Been here once a few years ago. DANK FOOD
Kirby, you know London better than I do and I live here
I thought this restaurant was older than the oldest parisian one 🤔
I will certainly try it next time I'm in London !
They serve grouse during the season at the Club, Kirby, but so much depends on which chef is handling the cooking.
This has big value.
I have always wanted to dine here
You have to dry age those Texas white tail deer. Like beef. Try it Kirby it makes a huge difference!
Interesting information about Rules Restaurant and Edward VII Room and Lilly Langtry I’m actually related to Lily Langtry she’s actually my Great Great Aunty she comes from the Channel Islands Jersey originally moved to London then America then back to Europe and passed away in Monaco in 1929. RIP
Been there several times always superb however they should put the fresh custard back on the menu 👍
I was a chef for 42 years retired left the trade 5 years ago and I’ve roasted more grouse than I can remember,it’s the best of the game birds without a doubt and I even got to like Bread Sauce!!!
I’ve been there! It’s got a dark interior and ancestral air. I had the potted shrimp because I had never seen it on a menu before. I would love to know what Charles Dickens ate ❤❤❤
My first meal at Rules was also venison!
Amazing 🇬🇧🇺🇲🍻
Oh Lord I thought I knew Covent Garden and Soho! I’d love to pop in for a G n T!
