Thank you! I'm 38 and just had surgery a little over two weeks ago. The Dr. I had was very uninformative and it's almost as if his office works as an assembly line. They move so many patients through that they didn't even tell me what kind of exercises to do. This was so helpful. Thank you!
Same here I had the same experience, it's only been 4 days since I had the surgery done, Iv had to research it myself.
This sounds like my experience, too. My surgeon is nice and educated but said nothing about exercises or scar tissue.
my doctor wanted to do surgery on my left hand two weeks after my right hand but at 2 weeks my right hand was completely useless. i wasn't even recommended to physical therapy until a month after surgery when i still couldn't use my hand.
Same here, and had both done same time
I had same experience! Apparently this surgery is so simple he flew into the room, did it in 15min or so & was off to another room with only simple instructions on moving my fingers in 2 different ways but nothing more.
Wow, "Fall seven times, stand up eight" in 2021. Knowing now what Bob was up against this really hits home. All the best, Bob!
Thank you both so much!
I'm almost 3weeks post op from tranverse carpal ligament release surgery.
They didn't give me any exercises or sugest pt for me. I found detailed instructions for care and pt on the Ortho University of Virginia edu site. But I love you guys so much I'm watching your videos for better exercise explainations!
Thank you so much and Happy New Year!
I'm 56 year old female, had carpal tunnel surgery April 10th & Dr was VERY VAGUE about only 2 "exercises", which was extending fingers & splaying them out then trying to bring them down SORT of to a fist✊. Nothing about thumb, no information about avoiding scar tissue. He DID say not to wear a brace & to cover with bandaid after initial bandage could be removed. I get my stitches out April 18th. Incision is definitely ropey. He said I wouldn't need PT for it following stitch removal.
Having been a receptionist at a physical therapy business that dealt primarily with total knee replacements, sports injuries & such but no hand injuries that I remember. I didn't question this Dr further but concerns about limited flex now of my wrist & obvious less strength in righthand since I turned to CZcams & found your video. Thank you for your advice & great visual instructions!!!
Maybe Dr will give me exercise sheet to follow when he removes stitches this Tuesday. Until then I'll do those you suggest prior to stitch removal.
I just had carpal tunnel surgery 4 days ago. This video is awesome. I like knowing why and how to do exercises. I wish you had gone more into working the thumb. Thanks for helping me on my way to recovery.
Had my surgery yesterday on my dominant hand (right), the surgeons and nurses were brilliant. Gave me exercises and paperwork. They talked the whole way through the procedure to keep me at ease. Recovery is going great. Only had to take painkillers once so far and can already do most exercises. Dissolvable stitches so don’t have to go through the pain of getting them out. My thumb is still quite sore but other than that I’m doing great! UK based
Thanks you so much guys. I've had surgery 2weeks ago. With your videos I'm healing well 😊. I don't think I would have made this far without your assistance because my surgeon didn't give me any advises or whatsoever you may think of with regards to CTS except performing the operation. Keep up the good work guys 👏
Glad things are going well. Best wishes in the fututre. Brad
I've just had one haedone two weeks ago I'm 73 so glad I had it done I've got full movement now and yippee no pain bless my surgeon at nuffield hospital xx Heather 🇬🇧
Thank you! Very helpful! Just had my left hand done! Hoping I can gain strength fast so I can go back to painting soon!
Thank you , I had the surgery and told to just move my hand and some verbal directions but nothing else. I came to my favorite therapists and now have wonderful direction. I am on my way now.
So glad I came across this video. Having surgery in May, so this is very helpful. Thank you 😊
Thank you for making this video. I just had my Rihana done on May 13, 22. I will be getting the left one done in 4 weeks.
From Wisconsin I had the surgery Friday! So grateful for this content!
This came up.in my feet 2 weeks after my carpal tunnel surgery. Thank you so much!
I was only give 3 stretches to do and this is golden!!
Great to hear we could be helpful! Best of luck in your recovery!
Thank you so much to both of you sir very helpful vedio how to do exercise..I had a carpal tunnel syndrome surgery last week Saturday thanks god successful operation now I’m recovery rest and exercise keep it up sending love and support stay connected thanks
Recent Carpal tunnel was my 14th ortho surgery. You guys never fail to deliver. Thank you
Thank you so much for these great exercises. I'm having my carpal operation this Saturday and I'm looking forward to it. Now I know exactly what to do to get my hand back to full function in a safe way 😊
Hey how are you recovering?
Thank you, just had surgery on my right hand last week and this has helped so much. I had surgery on the left hand three weeks ago and I I feel great. But I ah e a feeling that I will get feeling with the right hand after watching this video. I already knew what to expect but after the first surgery. Geese are great tips and excessive for after carpets tunnel surgery.
Your sessions make sense. Thank you. my post carpal tunnel release surgery has left my thumb and forefinger numb and though it's been two months later, i am getting more and more into your exercize suggestions. Don't know the outcome, but they feel good........so we'll see. IMO can't hurt.
I had De Quervain Tenosynovitis right surgical Release and right carpal tunnel syndrome on the right. My carpal was a small incision and a long scope, but the thumb has small incision. Yesterday 6/11/24 I'm doing fine had little pain, hand weak. I had already start doing most of those exercises on the same day. I think my did a great job.
You gentlemen really are the best. Thank you so much.
❤thank you I’m going into surgery soon. This video is very helpful, as all your video’s are beneficial.
I’m 65 years old he’s 66 in May. I have severe corporal tunnel in both hands I just had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand which is my dominant, hand, my dominant hand , before the surgery I could write with a pen it was a little sloppy, but I could grip the pen and write, after the surgery I got the stitches out at two weeks and he told me to come back in four weeks to see how I was doing. I find it hard to grip and do the things I used to do with it before the surgery so I asked him the doctor if I could get physical therapy he said he didn’t think it would be a benefit to me which I don’t understand why, I go in next week to see him already started doing exercises because I feel that physical therapies always great to strengthen your muscles and to get everything moving again which she was fine with moving it anytime I want and doing anything I want almost but the heavy I don’t know, but I never heard a Dr. shade it. Physical therapy wouldn’t be beneficial to so in that case if it wouldn’t be beneficial then how could the surgery be beneficial to me if it was that severe why do the surgery anyway have you ever heard of that before? Thank you, John.
i didnt say what i thought lol... that your videos were extremely helpful and gave me some things i didnt find anywhere else.... THANK YOU! You saved my hands :)
Thank you!
I had my carpal tunnel surgery 2 months ago and my surgeon didnot tell me anything about getting my hand and fingers and wrist the way it was before. Thank God I saw this video. Thank you...😊
Just had my left hand done 8/20/21. Right hand was done 15 years ago and doin fine. I haven’t been really moving my hand that much , just my fingers. I started doing these exercises as I watched your video just now. My hand feels more flexible just from that little movement. I get my stitches out next Tuesday. Thank you for the tips.
Having Mine Done November 1st , is it really painful ?? I am nervous first timer here. And I am 41.
Just had stitches taken out from carpal tunnel surgery and having pain in my fingers when I straighten my arm, now I know why. I am a hairdresser and am slowly getting back to work. Thanks for the detailed exercises. You both are so helpful.
Good luck on your recovery !
How is it going? I’m in the exact same situation. I haven’t had the surgery just yet . I’m a cosmetologist as well and well I’m nervous with when and how would it be returning to work
@@jilldunn2031 I just had my left hand done today and in 2 weeks will have another hand done. I can type on the computer without any problems I dont feel much pain just like from 1-10 pain lvl is 0.25. and that level of pain is without any pain medication so as you can see it's amazing. I can do whatever I want with my hand except heavy lifting etc. I can drink a tea no problems.I can hold my phone etc. So if you use your hand a lot as a cosmetologist you might need to take it easy for first few days but I think it's doable without problems.
Omg tried put in loose pony tail it hurt
How soon did you go back into work I'm also a hairdresser
Thanks dear
I had surgery 40days ago. Still can't do hard work with that hand. But better than before. I try these things. It's will help
Just had surgery on wrist and trick finger surgery, 3-21 23 can't wait until I can drive ,thanks for sharing this information
I adore these guys! Helpful and so sympatico.
Thank you ❤ I'm 10 days post surgery, such helpful information.
Hi Bob and Brad, I'm on my 6th day after carpal tunnel surgery but I also had trigger finger surgery in 2 fingers and also had inflammation removed from the top of my hand. Got another week before seeing the surgeon and hoping I'm doing everything I should be to help everything heal 🙏🤞
Keep up the great work and remember to listen to your body!
Hello guys. I had do the survey 24 days ago. I have pain every day and is more black around. Is that normal?
Thank you so much for this video! I'm 71 & have needed surgery on both wrists for a long time but I'm too nervous. I'm considering it now!🤗
Don't wait too long!!! I do know someone who had surgery on both wrists at the same time... fortunately his wife was a nurse! The reason I put it off as long as I did because my brain could not wrap around of having to use my non-dominant hand for bathroom issues. However it wasn't all that awkward and I got thru it effectively.
@@Muginami01 did you massage the incision like they show in that video?? I did my left hand today and in 2 weeks I'm going to have right hand done.
I’m 75 and just had both done.
@@Dragonflies08my concern also!!! But I figured it out!!
Thank you had surgery and using your exercises
I just had carpal tunnel release surgery yesterday and moving my fingers still hurt but I am moving them as tolerated. But I will be doing these as soon as I can.
Thanks guys! My bride recently had the C.T. surgery and is struggling to regain her flexibility and strength. This will help her...thanks!
Wonderful, thanks a lot
I had my carpal tunnel surgery 3 weeks ago and the incision is still healing and I am experiencing a little swelling and pain just above my wrist.
I have been exercising however, backing off as too much stretching extenuates the pain. Hopefully this will improve in time when the incision is fully healed.
After reading comments by people who still have carpal tunnel after surgery, have your spine checked... as in an MRI. i knew my spine had many issues and had read it could cause ct symptoms. I am terrified of having spine surgery, plus the pinky test and xrays indicated ct, so I had both hands done. No tingling now, but a few minor issues that I assume will resolve in time. The surgery was well worth it. Watch B&B and do their exercises and research all you can so you can go into it well-informed. And study comments made by those who have been there, done that.
Going to the procedure today the 9 April 2024 ,,, will begin these right away ..,as much as can be tolerated… GREAT Information… thank you. Getting both done left one first the 6 weeks min. Time frame getting the right hand.. 👍👍
You guys are my GoTo therapists. I love you. I just broke my wrist. Colles fracture. I had a plate put in. While he was in there, he repaired my carpal tunnel. I’m doing the exercises, but was wondering. Should I be doing a warm up, and a cool down? Like warm packs or cold packs?
Thank you fantastic explanation and help .xx
Glad it was helpful!
Glad to see Bob had his Dupuytren’s taken care of. I remember when he swore he’d never do it. ✔
I came for the opening music, I stayed for the carpal tunnel aftercare advice.
I'm 2 weeks post surgery on my right wrist, 1 week post surgery on my left wrist.
I couldn't afford to take time off work, I went back to work the day after both surgeries. I work in a sheet metal shop. I was the one armed tinner for a few weeks.
My doctor didn't say anything any these types of exercises. I suppose he would have if I asked, but I was nervous, I didn't think to ask.
I'm still taking it easy, but honestly the only pain I'm having now is it feels like I have a pretty good bruise on the palms of my hands just under each thumb.
I bought one of those finger exerciser springy grip things. Varigrip sport. I've been using it on the lowest setting. I can work each finger with little to no pain.
I just started working the scar tissue at the incision on my right hand. As soon as they take the stitches out on the left side I'll start working that side.
Thank u. As I am a visual learner. This helps. I have surgery Nov 10 the. Hope it goes well. Granny 65
i wasnt told to do PT but i read all over the internet and started doing PT day one... im 8 months out and about 75% back to normal. both hands had surgery, but they were effected differently, so my left is weaker in different ways than my right. but all-around PT seems like the most important thing... and wearing the braces after surgery when you go back to work.
i also massaged the scar several times a day, and i think that really helped, too. the scars seem to be small.
Thank you ❤
Hi guys, just had carpal tunnel surgery today and will start these exercises immediately. Thank you so much.
Hope they help and best of luck on a quick and painless recovery!
Hi guys. Had surgery 3 weeks ago. Now there is slight loss of sensation on first 3 fingers. Swelling around the incision. And now there is also some trembling movements on 4th and 5th finger. Are all these normall? Maybe the swelling is pressing on the ulnar nerve now?
Wish I had run across this sooner! Great info. Thanks so much for posting. As others have mentioned, my surgeon was not helpful for post surgery advise. I had CTS on my right hand a year ago and still have very poor ROM and strength, I'm guessing due to scar tissue. Is it possible I might regain some flection and strength with these exercises? I had CTS on my left hand a month ago, stiches out about 2 weeks ago. I have very little ROM, it's very weak and swollen but hoping to avoid, or at least minimize the problems I have with my right hand with your routines. FWIW, I'm 68 and do some woodworking but have not been able to do much since the 2nd surgery. With both surgeries I felt great the day after, but at day 3 had extreme pain and swelling. Pain meds did practically nothing but subsided after 2 - 3 days. Not that it matters any more, but my surgeon was unable to explain the sudden onset of pain and swelling in both surgeries. Wouldn't wish this on anyone.
My surgeon did not allow exercises until 2 wks after surgery when the bandage was removed, though I was encouraged to move my fingers.
Great! You guys from anywhere in Minnesota? Love the accents. Thanks so much for this, and Bob, if you need a handsome, southern man to take care of you I will be there...
Off topic, but I've seen your vids on rotator cuff tendinitis, but what about for someone that does heavy weight training? Same treatment? And do I avoid all exercises that involve the shoulder. Just take a month off and do the ice and anti inflammatory and movements...and pray when I bench 405lbs again I dont relapse?
Goodmorning, i had my surgery done yesterday and i would like to find out when i can start doing this exercises? I had the open surgery. Thank you and I appreciate the response. I jump rope for my exercise and meditation and also wondering when i can start doing it.
Thanks for the video. I just turned 71 yesterday and had carpal tunnel surgery on my right wrist two or three years ago. My right thumb is in a locked position, and was told nothing could be done about it. I wasn't told to do any physical therapy after the surgery. I will work on the exercises you posted. Thank you again.
You have Trigger thumb you can have surgery for that I did and my thumb is fine
@@patriciareyesakacarletello5067 the dr. that did my carpal tunnel said there is nothing that could be done for it. I had waited too long. (sigh)
Thank you for thr vid! Im 21 and got the surgery on both hands so Definitely needed some good exercises to be able go get back into the gym!💪🏽
How many days take our hands capable for usual works just like writing bcz i am a student..
Hello, why is it so early to have this carpal operation...I am scheduled for surgery this coming 24th October I am so afraid...can I ask you how many hours the surgery and how many weeks for full recovery.?
I love your intro
Second hand done yesterday.
I had it done a few days ago plus my thumb which had trigger finger!
Alpha lipoic acid is supposed to help also according to Dr Mandell. I am ordering and will let Ya know.
Why do we have to wear a wrist brace when suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ??
Just had my Carpal Decompression op 2days ago. I have a very big stiff bandage that is due to only come off in 12-14days when the stitches are also taken out. I would love to start these exercises now, but I can hardly move my very swollen fingers (especially the thumb) whilst I’m trapped in this bandage. Can’t do any curls or fist....only a "little wriggling" is possible by massaging each finger and I'm trying to keep hand up elevated as much as poss. Will it be too late for me to start to do these exercises in 12-14days time??? I Lovvvve Your Fabbbmazing Video & Your Awwwwesome Explanations - Big Thankssssss 💝💝💝
I had both hands done in the last two months. Coming along well but have that lump under the incisions that prevents me from putting too much pressure on the heel of the palm when using a railing on stairs or hands flat against a wall or table. Very irritating when bicycling. I'm hoping that subsides in time.
Could you possibly show this type of video for Trapeziectomy surgery! I had it in March and I still have stiffness and pain! And also some exercises to do if you know if any! And also when I had this surgery, I also had the carpel tunnel surgery, had some arthritis scraped off the top of my right hand and also had to take a cyst-(digital mucus cyst) off my thumb knuckle, all of these surgeries on the same right hand the same surgery, 4 things! Maybe that’s why it’s still painful and stiff!
exercise for trigger thumb release surgery ? do you have video for this ?
Bob and Brad - my surgeon said I would not go to therapy for the carpal tunnel after surgery, based on your video PT is almost a necessity, I'm confused by the surgeon's (non)advice. Should I schedule therapy on my own? My family doctor will authorize.
I had surgery on both hands at the same time. 8.29.2022.
I had my left had done twice 😵💫. But this second time, it is much less painful than the first time. BUT this time, it is soooooo tender. Please don’t move too soon, that scar tissue can make you get carpal tunnel again.
I have had carpal tunnel syndrome for 2 years now... Still on medications and hand splint but the symptoms are not getting any better so here I am thinking about taking the surgery.
You know I've been running away for surgery for 16yrs, not using any medication. Last year I tried using the splint but no difference and now the pain I'm experiencing is so terribly and I can't take the pain any longer. I'm ready for surgery and it's the best solution for me
@@silindilencalane4129 Wow. So glad to hear that.. hoping for your speedy recovery ❤️
Been making fist and stretching out fingers from day 2. On day 5 I tried stretching hand up ward and slightly backwards. Had a sharp pain and the next day my wrist area looked blue. Did I ruin it or break a stitch?
Post op visit isn't until next Tuesday Sept 14th
I'm having carpal tunnel release next week on my left hand. This incision is going to be very minimal. Two stitches if that but I'm a paraplegic so I use a wheelchair so it's going to be super frustrating for me not to be able to put any weight on it till the stitches come out. And of course the stitches is just above your wrist to the very bottom of your palm
Iit’s been almost a year since my carpal tunnel surgery. I did the exercises religiously after surgery for several months. Not too long after the surgery i developed trigger finger in the ring finger. I had in injection of cortisone and that worked. So far so good. However now my hand has developed developed Dupuytrens contracture on the middle finger. That hand is sort of like a claw when i wake up and if i have done any weeding or really much with my hand, it really hurts. Also the outside of my thumb and down to the wrist hurt. Are these things connected to the carpal tunnel surgery?
Just had this surgery, so glad I found this. thank you!
You’re welcome !
Can you put a link for the deluxe grip strengthener with the bands? Thank you
It is below the video.
I have Bi lateral. Carpal tunnel I'm in so much pain and my hands are always tight on both sides along with the numbness tingling pain in both wrist and trigger fingers
Hopefully this will help you
I'm recovering from Carpal tunnel and index trigger finger. I almost went with a doc that was going to do both hands at once! Thankfully I got a second opinion and did only one hand (I basically live alone & I'm in a half cast, elbow to top of finger knuckle).
I've been moving everything but the cast is so high up, it doesn't allow my fingers much movement.
I get stitches out in two days. Will I still be limited in movement?
I have trigger finger and I would like to do exercises to help make them not lock up on me. The middle finger on each hand. I drove a school bus for 48 yrs and those fingers sometimes lock up on me during my sleep. Can I use these carpal tunnel exercises.
I used scar gel on my incision. Several months later I stilll have pain and my wrist is weak even though I use my hand every day. I just bought Chinese balls for exercise.
Hello bob and brad i need ur help i hv done carpel tunnel release surgery 3 months ago but still i hv severe numbness in muly hand feels heaviness on my shoulder..what should i do plz help me
Im in ns been trying to get surgery for years, I'm on opiates now and nerve blockers, I'm being told it's another year wait.. both wrists are severe severe I cant function please where can I get help?????
My hand feels very tight when I try and flex it back, as though it’s going to rip the stitches. Do you recommend doing anything else to try and stretch it out or will it slowly get there?
How soon after surgery can you start these exercises? I'm having surgery in 2 weeks and am looking ahead
My surgery is in 2 weeks as well and they told me like 2 months at least of recovery with limited force no more then 4 pounds
when i start the exercise after surgery after 2 week or more please answer me? and how many days i use the bandage after surgery?
Just had surgery 3 days ago can u try these but not so flexible yet
My mom has a surgery for carpal tunnel this april 20
Bob brad I’m at nearly a week after stitches taken out from both hands having carpal tunnel surgery and my hands are still really bad nerve issues and pain please help
We are very sorry to hear this. You can try these exercises, but if it's still painful when you do them, it's too early and we do not suggest you continue them until you can do it as tolerated.
I found you two before I considered surgery , and began doing exercises along with my therapists instructions.. You guys are great to work out with, and I feel not so alone. Now after surgery I will be going back to therapy and will be watching again and workin out with you. It's only been 2 weeks (got stitches out Monday 8-9-21) and it feels weird that your (my whole arm hurts and trying to readjust)
How soon after surgery can you start exercising?
3:20 $18k wow! Not sure if it was a joke? Bilateral was under $3k AUD in Australia, top quality private surgery.
That price for a carpal tunnel release is daylight robbery. As an ex theatre nurse I can tell you it is the level of surgery that junior doctors are trusted to perform. Going to have to go private for a hip replacement UK. Estimated price around £20,000. NHS waiting lists too long post covid.
I'm almost 4 weeks out. Im in pain. Fingers, hand hurt and still somewhat swollen. I have an excruciating pain at the base of my pinkie finger down side of the scar directly on the side of my hand, along the ulner side. I'm very nervous that my surgeon may have damaged my ulner nerve. To bend my pinkie finger back and to hit the shift key while typing at work is excruciating.
Did you get any better?
Regarding the medial nerve, why don't you want to stretch head away & finger tips down & away? I'm assuming it's not a good thing to do & will damage the nerve? Apparently nerves don't want to stretch, they certainly don't want to be pinched!
I had the surgery 2 months ago is it normal to have pain around the wrist area
thank you for your tutorial since I had carpal tunnel AND pointer trigger finger op done both at same time
I use a bean bag to grip instead of the ball..helps with changing excercises for one or the other ..thanks again :-)
I had surgury on my left hand I’m lift handed it made it worse Dr said I waited to long the nerve was to tight and now in my right hand I drop everything I pick up and cannot hardly write
Hi guys. Could you do a video on injured Deltoid Ligaments. 7 weeks since my injury, and haven't seen much improvement since the first couple weeks.
I will add this to our to do list! Thank you for the suggestion!
Hi guys. Had surgery 3 weeks ago. Now there is slight loss of sensation on first 3 fingers. Swelling around the incision. And now there is also some trembling movements on 4th and 5th finger. Are all these normall? Maybe the swelling is pressing on the ulnar nerve now?
There is also pain when trying to open a bottle for example. Mostly on thumb, base of thumb and index finger. Could it be a failed surgery or is it just too early?
I’m 76 yrs. Had surgery January 3, 2024 and again January 31 bcuz stitches came out, I currently have 2fingers and my thumb numb, Doctor said it’s possible numbs will not go away. My question is why?yes I’m trying to do exercises. He did do a debridement on the second surgery. He said my stitches came out or I should say the glue came on glued, and the dissolvable stitches came undone after first surgery. When he did the second surgery, he said he had to remove some tissue and put in regular stitches again after one week he said I could try to use the stress ball. My question to him was it possible that my fingers were going to stay numb he said he has heard of that happening but he can’t be sure about me, hopefully not. What do I have to look forward to now?
How long after surgery for CTS to heal? Had it 6 weeks and hand and wrist still aches , still have slight tingling in finger tips. Doesn’t feel that strong. Not supposed to see the surgeon again for 3 more weeks
I read it took a full year
Cute caterpillar
I’m 25 and just had surgery yesterday
Very sorry to hear that! Best of luck on your recovery!
I actually did 11. Well, I’ll be OK.
I broke my left arm, two main bones and chipped the bone on my wrist. I have a titanium plate abd screws below rhe wrist. I'm supposed to move my fingers but can't close hand without help from my right hand..left fingers are still puffy [I reacted to steri strips and the neoprene sleeve splint]. My outer stitches are out and steri strips are off. The incision isn't bleeding but the upper layer of skin on either side of the incision isn't meeting so perhaps I'll have a messy scar. I'm not allowed to move my wrist much until April 27 and having trouble properly moving hand. Back of my hand is very tender and stiff as all my tendons retracted and my wrist "fell down". Surgeon jad to pull on my left thumb to get the wrist realigned. I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions or perspective as to what to expect. Do you have any videos on this scenario?
I wonder why bob and brad didn’t respond to your post?
