    I was considering using coco fibre for the first since I’m rehousing one of my tarantulas to a bigger enclosure but I was also considering having a small ‘succulent’ plant in there... However since you mentioned it’s not very beneficial or helpful to plants, I might try to mix some peat moss or soil in there too.
    Great video thanks for the information, I just subscribed to you!

    Not sure if you got my mail, but I lost my Savannah monitor. He just hit 6 months old, and I dont get what happened. He had no parasites, vet gave him clear bill of health. Had humidity at 60% heat was on point, but day he died I did up his basking spot from 110 to 120 and gave him a big concrete brick to lay on because he was climbing and hanging under the uvb light. So thought he wanted more heat. 6 hours later I found him upside down passed away next to the block. I sat and cried for an hour.. I still enjoy your videos man, and will keep watching.

      @mustachadon Před 4 lety +3

      Savannah's are tough man. I've never kept a monitor but I've read and learned alot keeping other reptiles. Have you ever seen Clint's Reptiles review of Savannah's? He talks about how challenging they can be, and about how the husbandry isn't quite there yet when it comes to knowing and meeting all of their needs. I applaud anyone who puts the time and energy into caring for any reptile. Especially one that is so often discarded or mistreated in such a blatant manner as Savannahs. I'm sorry about your loss, it's hard to lose any animal.

She was kept in a 40 breeder so she is very small for her age, and missing quite a few toes due to bad sheds. She will be going to vet soon, but reptile store who gave her to me, who have licensed vets said she will prob not grow much due to lack of proper care her first 2 years. She is a beautiful white with black spots. Little bit food aggressive so she does bite when I try to pick her up. Once she is picked up she calms down and enjoys the handling.

    After I hydrate the Coco fiber it takes FORVER to dry. I put it in a ventilated box and it's still wet. I can't dry it outside because maggots appear within hours. It's becoming a problem.
    Just realized I probably used too much water even though I followed the instructions.😒

    Ya know I haven't tried any dollar store or discount/off-brand Coco substrates. It's dirt cheap as it is from reptile supply. I'd just as soon support my supply company of choice

    Got here because I heard somewhere that it can be used in tropical fish tanks( freshwater)so to be different I tried it , with poor concecuences the dozen fish I had in a 3ft tank have passed after a week of coconut fibre substrate I only used a 650gremme brick and the mess is untrue,I followed the guidelines too. That's one mistake of my years of being a tropical hobbyists. Only one lesson to learn and pass on don't use it.
