    Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Election results 2019: Tories on course to win majority - exit poll
    The Conservatives are set to win an overall majority of 86 in the general election, according to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV and Sky News.
    The survey taken at UK polling stations suggests the Tories will get 368 MPs - 50 more than at the 2017 election - when all the results have been counted.
    Labour would get 191, the Lib Dems 13, the Brexit Party none and the SNP 55.
    The Green Party will still have one MP and Plaid Cymru will lose one seat for a total of three, the survey suggests.
    The first general election results are due before midnight, with the final total expected to be known by Friday lunchtime.

      They usually are pretty accurate. The only one I remember which was way out was when John Major won, the exit poll predicted a Labour victory. With Kinnock winning . It was funny as when the first results came in it was immediately obvious that Major had won, yet the BBC wouldn’t believe it for several hours as they were convinced their exit poll was correct! To be fair it was a shock.

      One thing I do not understand with the media, particularly tonights coverage:
      Voting closes at 10.
      Exit poll uses surveys from people at the polls (*I've never met anyone who has been polled?), also tallied and immediately broadcasted at 10 o clock.
      Every news channel broadcasting in the UK swears by them, and compares EVERY result to said instantly tallied exit poll.
      Any gains by other parties are explained away as losses of support towards the party which comes in second.
      The presenters and guests on all the shows seem genuinely annoyed and butter if labour gets ahead absolutely anywhere.
      It's baffling.

      @e-knockpower7808 Pƙed 4 lety +5

      Fingers Crossed We already know the sample sizes needed to predict the outcome (without the precise seat numbers) by exit polling. Not all constituencies are covered - mostly marginals - and very few polling stations are visited, with only maybe 10% of the people at those stations being questioned. The probability of being selected for exit polling as a random citizen is incredibly low because the number of data points needed to accurately predict the outcome is also very low. That's just how the maths works in this case.

      People vote for a candidate for a number of reasons, not just the one you wish to cherry-pick to support your assertion.
      In 2017 *80%* of people voted for parties that promised to implement the referendum result. Did that mean that 80% country voted to leave?
      The clear exception being the Euro MP election. The Brexit Party was quickly formed (and named such) for one reason only: To leave the EU. Anyone that voted for the Brexit Party was *unambiguously* voting to leave the EU. The Brexit party won the most votes in that election and returned the most Euro MPs.
      Adding together votes from the other parties is like saying Manchester United didn’t win the F.A cup because if you add up the goals, Chelsea scored more than Man U during their matches, therefore Chelsea won.
      All this is moot anyway. You just need to look at the results latest GE. to understand my assertion was and is correct.

    Interesting, if you add up all pro-EU votes (Labour 32.1%, LD 11.5%, SNP 3.9%, Green 2.7%) you get 50.2% of all the votes (if you add Plaid you get 50.7%) but all those 50.7% of the votes only got 266 seats (40.9% of all seats) while the conservatives with 43.6% of votes got 56.2% of seats. FPTP is disastrous

    • @Mirrland1
      @Mirrland1 Pƙed 3 lety

      FPTP isn’t perfect but when adding up for any agenda, you can reinterpret the results as you like.
      PR on the other hand in other countries has led to unstable government, too frequent elections etc. Brits have a nature to dislike that and referendums in the past have showcased that they do not want to change their political system.

    • @llieu5642
      @llieu5642 Pƙed 3 lety

      @@Mirrland1 well I think PR better reflects on how people actually voted and encourages coalition government so no one party will have all the power. Even if that means more elections but I don’t want to compromise democracy for the sake of stable government. With PR a majority government representing the majority of voters while In FPTP it’s not especially if you look at 2005 labour majority with only 35% of votes, 2015 conservative majority with 37% of votes...the 2011 referendum was on single transferable vote, didn’t ask other forms of PR (it could’ve asked two questions, 1. Do you want PR? 2. What kind of PR do you want?)- and both labour and conservative have been benefiting from FPTP form the beginning they probably don’t want a change. Also the turnout was only 42% (unlike the EU referendum had 72%) it’s hard to say the opinion was like but anyway it got rejected, and it’s still hard to say the general opinion even now...
