Regarding Isaiah 53:10
www.desiringgod.org/messages/...
As with every reaction we do This is not an endorsement of the genre, the song or even the artists themselves. That is a matter of conscience. Our goal is to listen to each piece openly and objectively. Pointing out where it presents truth and error from a Christian worldview. This exercise is solely to help develop discernment and to show the often erroneous view the secular world has of Christianity as well as where they unintentionally get it right. It is important to note that we believe pure truth can only be found in Gods word.

#PastorRob #BlackSabbath #Reaction - Hudba
I grew up in church, hearing a lot of warnings about demonic stuff in Black Sabbath and other bands. As an adult, I went back and actually listened to their lyrics and I was pretty shocked that they were singing against pride, vanity, war, hatred, casting out the poor and weak, etc. So I'm a lot more open minded these days about them. Thanks for your ministry, y'all!
karens in church
Ozzy was a Christian.
It's the pop music you gotta watch out for, the devil rules the world.
When Ozzy re-emerged on his own in 1980 he capitalized on the image of being satanic. I went to one of his concerts at the Bakersfield Civic Center in 1980. Randy Rhodes had a polished brass pick guard on his guitar, and would use it to reflect the spotlights into peoples eyes while trying to stare at them all wicked.... I wasn't scared. It was annoying.
@@Fallen-Saint the devil is in all genres of music fam, even in metal and I say that as a massive metalhead. But alot of older metal bands had a ton of Xtian influence. One modern chrisian band is Beartooth and they were pretty well regarded
"I didn't expect this from Black Sabbath" is what you should expect from Black Sabbath
I never thought I'd see a pastor head banging to Black Sabbath music.
I have a cousin that is a pastor and he rocks out to Pearl Jam. You just never know what your pastor is listening to :)
"i heard their guitarist had an issue with his fingers" goooodddddddddd I wish I could go back to that level of not knowing Sabbath so I could hear it all again for the first time. This band changed the trajectory of my life in such a beautiful and positive way
Pastor Rob. Can I just say that I am an atheist and stumbled across your reviews. I am now finding myself looking forwards too your interpretations as much as I do the music. I think that you are a really nice bloke and watching you sat listening to music with your son, reminds me so much of when I used to listen to music with my dad, they were very special times for me. You are a good man and I am sure that IF there is a god.......he is very proud of you and the work you are doing in his name. From your friend in England 👍🏻🙏
Thank you for those kind words! :-)
@@roberthoughton7127 I envy you and your son, me and my dad have nothing in common when it comes to music lol. Except for maybe Jim Croce and Creedence.
You seem like a pretty nice bloke yourself Geo Pro ;)
Listen to Ozzy. Also, read from the book of Romans, chapter 1. His hand is on you, Bro.
Ask God to reveal himself to you Geo Pro.
One of my favorite songs in this world, I grew up listening to Black Sabbath and know a lot of theirs songs. This is the first Christian Heavy Metal Song.
Actually it's rock.
It's metal
@@milanpetkovic1990 These guys were one of the 1st bands to make metal, so no. You could say its 1st wave or "old" heavy metal - but its still metal.
This was the third Sabbath album that I purchased back in the day and I was not a Christian. I read these lyrics and thought they converted to Christ and I didn't like it. Years later, I converted to Christ and now it's one of my favorite songs. I actually shared it with a pastor friend of mine too. Thanks for the video.
Lord of This World is also a great one from Sabbath.
fax
The entire Master Of Reality album is amazing! My favorite Sabbath record!
Lord of this World refers to Satan himself. The song deals with the subject in a real world struggle. A rather relevent song for this channel to react to. And the vinyl sounds great.
Master of reality was a great album in general
The members of Black Sabbath were actually pretty god-fearing. If you're gonna rock Sabbath, vinyl is the way to go btw...
James Leslie not Ozzy but Iommi sure was
Ozzy is a practicing catholic
Anybody else hate the term "god fearing"?
@Goat Peter Thank you. It sorta clicked with me when I thought "Why fear the being that loves unconditionally, more than any person".
@Goat Peter too bad you're incorrect on what , "God created". God did not create sin, the devil, hate. The bible does say God creates evil. The evil is a result, and a consequence, of sin. Man brought sin by his own will. Satan and man are beings with a will.
That poster is worth some cash. be careful with it.
John Hukle that’s what I was thinking! Lol
I would have bought that off them in a heartbeat
Shit, that whole score of that vinyl is gold....
a girl at a shop gave me this exact same copy of master of reality and it did not have this poster sadly but hey i got the record.
My thoughts exactly!
If I wasn't already a Christian then this song would really speak to me.God speaks to many people in many ways and this song is a perfect example.
As a Christian who’s grown up on alternative and metal music I love what you’re doing. You should do War Pigs.
I'd personally rather him do "walpurgis"

Listen to “Holy Wars... The Punishment Due” by Megadeth
Generic Username yooooooo
Watch the music video.
agreed
The “Holy Wars” part of the song refers primarily to the Troubles in Northern Ireland where the conflicting Republican & Unionist populations identified as Catholic and Protestant respectively. If you had a Catholic sounding name, if you identified as a catholic and practiced at mass, you were a target for Loyalist paramilitary forces and the British Army; and vice versa.
The song specifically came about when Megadeth played Belfast in the late 80’s and Mustaine made a particular arse of himself on stage when he made reference to “the cause” and a riot ensued.
Yeah please!!
Now we need Black Sabbath to react to THIS video
Lol
Blahahahahahahahahahaha
Followed by a reaction video from fans reacting to Sabbath's reaction of these guys reacting to them and so and so forth.
@@elvissorna8861 after that then post a video of black sabbath reacting to the fans reacting to black sabbath reacting to these guys.
"Is God Dead?" is another christain like song. It may not seem that way but if you listen carfully in the lyrics you will see he is confused of if God is dead or alive. He also says he don't believe God is dead in the song. Someone might say well they say God is Dead in the song like it's a statement many times. But he also says in the song where he has a voice in his head screaming God is Dead. That is maybe an example of the voice screaming. Also note he never said he believe God is dead he instead said He don't believe God is dead.
Black Sabbath is known for some Amazing Riffs. This Riff is Criminally Underrated!
I used to be unconvinced but sabbath helped me along to accept and recognize christ as my savior.
That whole album is amazing
One of the greatest albums ever recorded
_Orchid_ is among my favorites.
I was 11 when I first heard this song 6 yrs after I watched my mom died I was a mess and on my. way to self destruction and this song saved me!
Good job guys, this is my favorite Sabbath song. Many of Butler's lyrics are spiritual in nature!
My favorite song ever.Black Sabbath was the greatest band ever!..
I dont think anyone has told you this....
But I think you should react to "Right in Two" by Tool..... has anyone said that yet?
They really should give that song a listen.
There is also a song by tool named "right in two" and they should react to it next
@@Soljarag5 and maybe after that they can do that one song called "Right in two" i believe by taylor swift...? nonono lol its by Drake i believe... OH no its by that one band! Tool!
all y'all talking about all this other crap.. what about "right in two" by tool? ya ever think to recommend that one?
gus ondemand shoot, havent even though of that. Also that one song “Right in Two” by two would be a good song to react to
My mom was born again and she used to take me to these " Satan in Rock n roll" things by the church. It actually did the reverse and it got me into Black Sabbath. People don't realize this but besides singlehandedly inventing metal they were the first Christian rock group. Their imagery and topics of doom in time when flower power was at it's height. Black Sabbath told the truth about drugs, war and karma. It sucks they got a bad rap as a satanic band which was the furthest from the truth.
Yeah the original music video for paranoid kinda makes me think of austin powers lol speaking of flower power.
David Perricone i guess coz of the band’s name but it goes to show you cant judge a book by its cover.
I went through all that "backmasking" crud myself ('yawn!). I like some of the bands they were flipping out about today too!
Well if you listen to the song Black Sabbath and consider the time it came out it sounds beyond evil
And they did spaceship loads of coke!
Master of Reality got me to look deeper into Christ. I've been a Christian since 1979. Thank you, Black Sabbath. Because of you, I am saved today.
I'm just another atheist metalhead who wants to congratulate you on your reactions. You really show that you can be open-minded, and show appreciation for music (despite the label it carries) and still hold strong to your beliefs and principles, AND still be critical and make insightful commentary about what you think is right and wrong about the songs.
Also, as a father, I also appreciate that you take time to listen to music with your son and comment on it in a respectful manner. Parents with religious beliefs usually have trouble with their kids listening to metal just based on their preconceived ideas and perceptions of the genre and it's great that you take some time to learn about the genre and the artists with an open mind and your insight on the music.
Greetings from Costa Rica!
I'm not a Christian but I was born in a Christian family that taught me to reflect upon and discuss, so I really appreciate your channel and the discussion that can be born from it !
Good Job!
I love you have the vinyl spinning in front of you, brilliant, thumbs up.
This video put such a smile on my face. Been a Sabbath fan sense birth and After Forever will be played at my funeral.
Cool to see someone that talks like they actually like this for what it is pointing out parts of the song you like. Rock on bros, and it is a tune that does sound excellent with headphones and the fidelity is excellent on this post with this on vinyl. One of sabbath's best tunes. you guys lift my spirits when i watch this 😊.
The vinyl is a great touch!
HOLYYY CRAP THAT WAS MY SUGGESTION
I suggested it as well. haha -- awww, I thought it was only me. Good suggestion, man!
shh, actually ozzy requested it.
oy, father, how about some of me songs?
My favourite Sabbath song, For multiple reasons!
Pastor Rob is one of the coolest Sabbath fans I've ever seen.
The opening riff at 3:09 is the happiest in metal. It is the sound of hope in this song. 🙏🏼🤟🏼
Its cool but at 3:28 is better with the bass and guitar riffs together.
@@grindfreakmike5754 : I love them both. 👍🏼

Im not religous in anyway, but i do enjoy hear other perspectives on anything from religion to food to music. Music is my savior and your videos are such a different way to see the music ive listened to and loved my whole life. Keep on keepin on guys.
Exactly! I love these videos because it's something different to hear and think about other people's views, even if I don't necessarily see things the same.
@@themcrib7920 exactly, im an atheist, but i absolutly love these videos. I like to see what they have to say of my favorite music coming from a different background.
When I became born again I had to make so many cuts with my music. The first time I listened to After forever I was only vibing to Ozzy’s vocals and Geezer’s guitar play I didn’t really know Geezer has a history with Christianity. The truth is most metal bands sing about a lot of dark stuff. I then went back and listened to the whole Master of Reality album and the themes are actually pretty good a good message in the songs.
Grew up listening to Black Sabbath. Still have the LP’s and still my favorite band. Great Job! Cheers! 🍻
Black Sabbath is one of the all time greats. They just jam.
The band was named after an Italian horror film by Mario Bava.
Actually it Wasn't because in Tony Iommi's Biography he says that people think the band is named after the movie but in reality none of the Founding members saw the movie before naming the band
I was just listening to this last night 11/18/23, excellent song. I once did a Sunday school class 25 years ago highlighting the lyrics of this song, after the lesson was over i played the song and everyone was shocked.
I'm sure they were.
Geezer Butler the bassist wrote most of Sabbaths lyrics. Great band!
You should react to “God is dead?” by them. The name is really misleading. And you should see the video while reacting to it
Yes its the opposite. Its a challenge to people who are of the opinion that god is dead.
Yeah, I think that initial idea coming from Nietzsche is also misunderstood to a great extent. It’s more like “You are dead when it comes to God” or “you are really living as if there is no God.”
The thing is the title is a question and not a statement.
The song no is anti Christian. Members sabbath are Christian, all know!
YES...Long time Sabbath fan, and this one still does not sit well with me.
I think they had a little heavenly intervention when creating the lyrics and riffs!!! AMEN
Man if all the records you purchased are in the shape the Sabbath record is you scored bigtime.
This is great a devout Christian and a Black Sabbath fan , a lot of their music you can pull Christianity out of along with anti war. Peace be with you
I have been a Sabbath Fan for almost 50 years. the lyrics for MANY of the songs are about social attitudes, vices, warnings about drug and alcohol use, etc. ie Snowblind is about the negativity of drug abuse...not an invitation to go out and abuse cocaine...there are warnings about the evils of war, the damage that can be caused by worshipping demons or satan...etc. why assume that their lyrical content is anti-christian on the one hand, and promoting satanism or whatever on the other? it may be of some note to remember that they did not use any upside down crucifixes despite some of the album covers depicting demonic possession...this should be understood as a warning, not any kind of promotion. the cover art on sabbath bloody sabbath is pretty much the only one of it's kind of that (Ozzy) era...that depicts any kind of religious symbolism...and it was a BLATANT attempt to sell a product based on the then popularity and controversy surrounding the hit movie "The Exorcist". in those days, album covers sold the albums, so why not associate something with a #1 international box office smash....this is MARKETING 101 people...a really good way to SELL a lot of records, and usually the Record COMPANY had control of the album art approval, not the band itself...Black Sabbath did not set out to promote evil deeds...Ozzy himself was completely misunderstood in the '80's when he wrote the song "suicide solution"...the "solution" was referring to the liquid alcohol (such as the use of the word "solution" in the Sherlock Holmes novel 7 % solution in reference to a tincture of Cocaine which could be injected....not a "solution" to a problem. lyrically it describes the path of self destruction travelled by alcoholics...not a "way out" for suicidal teenagers...something of which he was accused after one of his records was found at the scene of a teen suicide. there will always be those with low IQ scores that cannot see past their own noses that will buy into the hysteria of "hidden satanic messages" etc....but really? there are other artists who are far more obvious in their messages...like maybe Slayer?...let's do a review of some of THEIR lyrical offerings, if the popular consensus is that these messages can be found in Metal music. There is something far more objectionable in most hip hop and rap.
They also talk alot about how war is the devils work thru big brother.
Slayer has publicly stated that they themselves are not satanists. The guy who writes the lyrics just finds the topics interesting and thinks they make for good imagery that fits the sound of the music. It’s possible to make art about something without believing it yourself.
And Iron Maiden was just using biblical plus fictional material to sing about something with their song The Number of the Beast. They were not promoting satanism! :) Sometimes we Christians completely misjudge something based solely on appearances and make ourselves look nutty.
Agree with you on most counts but not about drugs. Sweet Leaf is about "wonders" of pot and Snowblind is not against or pro cocaine, it's just a statement of their lifestyle at the time (pretty much every band in mid 70s was doing coke). Just listen to the beginning of the last verse: "Don't you think I know what I'm doing, Don't tell me that it's doing me wrong." Sabbath lyrics were never very deep, they were pretty straight forward and simple to understand. What they wrote is what they felt. You never have to wonder about their meaning at the time they were written.
Sometimes@@soterioncoil2163?
Loving these reactions and analysis. Using vinyl will get you a bunch of newer viewers on top of the ones you already have, the vinyl scene is a lot bigger than people realize.
Oh, man. That poster is an absolute win. What a gem.
See this is the kind of Christians that I can seriously respect
So glad I found you guys on here. It's about time there was someone who was willing to teach that not all dark songs are completely Dark and Bad towards Religion. If the Religious ignore all things dark instead of using understanding, how can we understand others pain and problems through empathy. We have to realize this to properly understand a state of mind that is outside of our own. You guys have nailed it on every song you've talked about on here.
"God gets all the credit for this." God gets all the credit for everything in existence
I have watched this video and i get goose bumps each time
Black Sabbath best band ever!...a Gif of God to humankind...
The Vintage vinyl is a nice touch. I've seen others try this format(Pastor reacts) but Pastor Rob, you seem to be both musically open minded and able to dig in and give some great insight. Keep it up.
I would say to the comment regarding the people crucifying Jesus vs God's Plan, I feel both can be true. God's plan accounted for them to call for his Crucifixion, he knew they would, but that doesn't take away their culpability. Basically both can be true and are not mutually exclusive.
Max Sand I see what you mean because I used to see it that way. It’s not an essential issue but It’s a good point of discussion.
The people who killed Jesus were the tool that God used to enact his plan. They didn’t actually have a choice in the matter. It was Gods plan that those particular people would do it at that particular time and in that particular way. Which fulfilled many prophecies. Every detail was planned before creation. Otherwise God would have been hanging out hoping someone would take his bait and kill Jesus. No, God is sovereign. He controls all things.
“This Jesus [was] delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God” (Acts 2:23)”
“For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” (John 10:17-18)
www.desiringgod.org/articles/who-killed-jesus
@@roberthoughton7127 "Foreknowledge" to me means he knew what events would transpire, and the age old "Free will vs Determinism" debate will always rage on, but I am a firm believer that one can enact god's plan and be acting with, what appears to us anyhow, as free will at the same time. IE he knew the outcome, but by knowing the outcome he isn't really gambling on it. He knew they would enact his plan for him because they were flawed, they were sinners and they were human. This was a plan banking on the ugliest nature of humans, not human goodness.
@@roberthoughton7127 Reading this reminded me of the concept of predestination. Does it mean that we are predestined either in heaven or in hell if both even exist? I'm sorry pastor but it is quite perplexing to think that no matter what good or bad things we do, if we are destined to the aforementioned destinations then we are literally just pawns of God then. I am particularly sad of the fate of Judas Iscariot because as you have said, "It was Gods plan that those particular people would do it at that particular time and in that particular way". I am a confused Christian by the way and like everyone else here loves to listen to metal music.
OBTW!! To add to my last post, My Favorite Line in this song is "They Should Realize Before They Criticize That GOD IS THE ONLY WAY TO LOVE"!!!

Hey! Metalhead here. Living in a secular circle like I am, I have no idea what do religious people like you think about my favorite music. Metal has usually these "satanic" and "evil" lyrics mostly because they can be viewed as cool and provocative, not really as a real devil worship or something. You could also contact bangertv -channel and do some kind of conversation with them about evil lyrics and how people see them.
I would love to go his church this guy knows how teach
Black Sabbath the masters and creators of heavy metal and you nailed it interping this song
Great song choice! I’ve also been listening to this song for decades and had never read the lyrics until now. I’m speechless.
Yes! Great song choice! Can't wait to watch the video!
I can’t wait for every review. What your doing is the best, even if it’s not everyone’s beliefs
The old adage that we should never judge a book by its cover certainly applies here. I've heard many people say that "Black Sabbath are satan worshipers" and all that stuff, but the first time I've heard After Forever (in 1977) after I graduated high school dispelled that belief. Thank you for this video Pastor Rob, FYI, I've been a born again Christian since 2003 and it wasn't this song that led me to seek Christ. 👍
I have listened to plenty of Sabbath over the years but I have never really listened to this song. Pleasantly surprised and impressed.
Theocracy - Nailed (the song is about Martin Luther)
I really appreciate your genuine and honest reactions. You always have interesting perspectives when you agree with the content of the song (as is the case here) or not and are always respectful to the musicians and others with different opinions from yourselves. Keep spreading peace and love guys :).
My main suggestion is probably unlikely to be done because it is a 30 minutes song... but that is The Door by Neal Morse. He is a Christian progressive rock/metal musician and that song is part of a concept album about the life of Martin Luther and the Reformation. You might find the music and lyrics interesting.
And, of course, Ghost of Perdition by Opeth.
I’ve never been a believer in any religion, but I appreciate your feedback and the fact that you embrace your sons love for the music and participate and share it with him and have open discussion. I know you’re a pastor but I applaud your parenting skills.
Historical moment! Ozzy's being praised for religious candor and has his vinyl on the same desk as a bible in front of a pastor and his son preaching to the rest of the world. You just earned a lifetime subscriber!

I’ve been a Bible believing, Jesus following hardcore metalhead for a LONG time (forty years). I’m into death, thrash, doom, power, black, and prog metal. I’m also way into hardcore. I am free in Christ, and the only time I curb my listening habit is when I’m in danger of letting metal get too important to me. Also, I draw the line when the lyrics are over the top blasphemous (eg. “The Thrashin’ of the Christ” by Municipal Waste). I love Jesus, and I really like to jam. The two are not mutually exclusive.
@Dr. Jack Kevorkian ok I see what you're saying. But there are people outside there, like myself, who listen to all kinds of music that still call themselves metalheads. Who cares if it's corny. Having the poster included in the record sleeve is a great thing. And the poster appears to be in great shape. It looks like you have a very desirable version of the record.
My favorite band when I was a teenager.
Hi pastor Rob. I actually just came across your CZcams channel today. I really like what you're doing. I have a really good suggestion on another one. It is "Words darker than their wings" by Alter Bridge. It is about a phone conversation between the lead guitarist and the singer. It goes back and forth on how the singer doesn't really believe in God and the guitarist is telling him to have faith, that there has to be something out there. Very powerful song. I really think you'll enjoy it. I think they are by far one of the most talented bands out today.
Jon Reeves yeah that’s a great Alter Bridge song!
It was first covered by another Christian heavy metal band called deliverance.

What I like about Black Sabbath are the lyrics. Many of the lyrics are written in a way that gives examples, which leads the listener to question. Which choice will you make? Or bad life choices lead to
