    Thank you for the great video!
    Two notes:
    As you said there is no"note off" in AWM2 but you can set the sustain and release to a high value to have similar effect.
    To set the center key you have a dedicated entry called "center note" (in wave edit) and so you don't need to set the course.

      Thanks Eldadi. I have used the sustain and release parameters to extend sounds and I should have mentioned it in the video. I was not familiar with the “center note” parameter though. I will check it out. Thanks for the tip.

      Hi Alt. I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed with a MODX. I doubt there’s any better keyboard out there in its price range. I’m still very happy with it after two years.

    3 years later and still very good. I use the original MODX7 and a Korg Wavestate on stage now. Pretty hard to beat.
    By the way, I take advantage of the keyboard being restricted to the first 8 parts, and sometimes have the Wavestate also playing one of the channels on the MODX (I choose CH12 because it leaves 4 consecutive channels above when I want to also integrate my Novation Circuit or Digitone.
    Another fact some people may not know, is that if you have any voice on one of the upper channels (9-16) switched on and use the zone settings, it still midi sends a program change when you change patches. Very effective controller. I only have to select one entry from the live set, and it changes all other devices on different midi channels instantly.

    Working on creating a sample of the descending synth wav from the beginning of the Styx song "Too much time on my hands". since you were saying that you can't find the "Rec note off" for a non-drum part, could I put this sample into a drum part so that I wouldn't have to hold it down to play the whole sample? Thanks

    what happens to the performance built from "imported" waveform from the usb stick, if you remove the stick from the device?

    • @tkrdennis
      @tkrdennis  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Truhli. After you use the Init function as I describe in this video and then Save the Performance, the sample stays in MODX memory forever (or until you delete it in the Utility area of the keyboard).
      You can continue to use imported waveforms in other Performances as many times as you want (without the memory stick being plugged in). To do that, you would open a Performance, select an unused Part (by pressing the + sign on the unused Part) and then selecting Init as I show in the video.
      After that, you would select the new Part and then touch Edit. On the Edit page you would select an Element (from the Elements shown at the bottom of the page) and then instead of pressing New Waveform you would press the sample shown in the Name field above the New Waveform button. Then you could search for the name of whatever imported sample you wanted.
      So, to reiterate, every time you load a sample into a Performance and then Save the Performance, that new sample will stay in the keyboard's memory indefinitely. I hope this is clear!

      I had the same question and I eventually found the answer. You can do this on a wav editor on your computer. The MODX/Montage will play it looped. You can't edit the wav on the keyboard unfortunately.

    Just wondering.... is there a way to place an existing sample anywhere you want on the keyboard? I got a Favorite covers set from Narf and I'd like to use some of the samples in different locations....Thanks

    • @tkrdennis
      @tkrdennis  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Vincent. Do you mean triggering a sample with different notes on the keyboard, or using a sample with different Performances? If you mean using samples in different Performances, then yes, it is fairly easy. Select the Performance you want and then press the Performance (Home) button. Then, assuming the Performance has at least one empty Part, press the + button for an empty Part. Then select Init and then Init Normal AWM2 or Init Drum (depending on the nature of the sample). Then press the Exit button to return to the Performance Home Screen.
      Next, press the Edit button (below Utility) and then touch Elem1 at the bottom of the screen. Then touch the Name field in the top right corner and then Category Search. This will take you to the Waveform Search screen. From there you might want to select the Narf Bank to narrow down the number of displayed waveforms. Then you will select one of the sample Waveforms and then Exit.
      I should have pointed out initially that the Narf Performances may not use any custom samples. I’m not familiar with them. It’s quite possible that they are just a set of custom Performances that use the MODX’s stock samples. If that’s the case, then the only way to use the Narf sounds (Performances) combined with other Performances would be to open one of the Narf Performances and then select an empty part to load in other Performances. That assumes that any given Narf Performance has one or more empty Parts in it.
      Sorry to be so wordy, but your question is not so straightforward. I hope this helps!

    • @vincentguarino4262
      @vincentguarino4262 Před 3 lety

      @@tkrdennis No worries about being wordy! I appreciate the feedback! Regardless of whether it's a Narf sample or a stock sample, my main question is... how do you map a sample to to another key? For example: from E1 to E0... hope that clarifies what I'm trying to do... Thanks

    • @tkrdennis
      @tkrdennis  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi again Vincent. When samples are loaded into a part (assuming they are melodic samples and the Part is an AWM2 type Part), they will play across the entire keyboard by default, with the C3 key assigned to the unaltered original sample. Keys above C3 will play the sample in progressively higher pitches and notes below C3 will play the sample at progressively lower pitches.
      To restrict the sample to only one note go to the Performance Home page, press the lower range of the sampled Part, then press Keyboard on the left side of the screen. Then touch the note on the keyboard that you want to activate the sample. Then press the upper Range and press the same note. Don’t worry what it sounds like.
      Next, select the Part and then press Edit. Then touch Elem1 at the bottom of the screen. The sample waveform is probably assigned to Element 1. Then select the Osc/Tune tab on the upper left and then touch the Coarse field. Use the wheel to move the pitch up or down depending on what note you selected to trigger the sample. For example, let’s say you wanted the E0 note to trigger the sample. E0 is 32 semitones below the C3 key, which means that you have to raise the pitch by 32 semitones to make the sample sound the same as it would when played by the C3 key.
      Next, press Exit and then Store to save the edited Performance. This is less complicated than it sounds! I hope this helps.

    • @tkrdennis
      @tkrdennis  Před 2 lety +2

      Nothing specific really. The MODX will take pretty much any kind of Wav file, and they can be quite long.
      For example, I was in a party/dance band that was doing Bruno Mars’ 24 Karat Magic and we were unable to to a respectable job with the intro. So I took Bruno’s original and made a Wav file of just the intro. It was probably a good 10 seconds long, but I had no trouble loading it into the MODX. To play it, I just held down the key I assigned the sample to until the whole intro played. Cheating, yes, but it worked great.
