- This video shows the stories of Regulus Black and Barty Crouch Jr. Their depiction is based on the information you can find in the Harry Potter books.
WARNING
This is a story about characters idolizing death eater ideology, following their propaganda, and committing terrible crimes. It contains implications of fictional violence (torture and murder) as well as some major character death.

This project has been a dream of mine for 6 years. Ever since we started playing these two at a LARP we wanted to explore more than just their Hogwarts years and - more importantly - what happened to them outside the walls of Hogwarts. Most of it is pretty much headcanon inspired by the few information you can find in the books.
Regulus and Barty are rather tragic. I love how they start at completely different points: the Black family endorsing blood purity and sympathizing with Death Eater ideology while the Crouchs - or rather Barty Crouch snr. - speak strongly against it. And then these two boys meet at Hogwarts, become friends, but eventually fall apart and go into completely opposite directions. Regulus actively trying to destroy Voldemort while Barty is responsible for bringing him back. O, the tragedy!
In the end, this was a rather ambitious project and it means so much to me. A massive thank you to each and every one who helped me out with this video, who let me use their home as a location, listened to my brainstorming, got in costume when it was like 37°C, operated a camera despite having never done this before, bringing along costumes and props, and trusting me enough to even participate without knowing what would await them (or knowing me, really). I am looking at you Bellatrix and Sirius. You rock!

Yes please, I would definitely be interested to know about such talented people! Fav scene is really hard to pick... I think it's when Barty's smile drops as he's drinking with his parents... or maybe when Reg peeps at Sirius, then realizes the old times are no more... >_<
If you do a Q&A, could you please tell us how you guys managed to film this, what with the restrictions and everything (assuming this was shot in 2020)?
Love the idea of Regulus and Barty being friends, makes sense considering they are about the same age and attended Hogwarts at the same time

Okay after I watched the cmv several times since I found it yesterday I wanna comment on some things I absolutely adore:
0:51: Regulus watching the Marauders. Both Sirius and Regulus grew up in this abusive household and Sirius found people who loved him and helped him during that time. Regulus did not had this people- maybe he wanted his brother back. People who finally actually care for him without judging. A chosen family.
1:02 : The letter from his father representing all the pressure which is put on him. “Nonsense like Quidditch” He is not supposed to have fun if it’s not for the name of his family, for the glory.
And then the scenes with regulus started and it’s the first time both of them looked happy. Like they’re able to be children for once and forget about the war their family’s are fighting.
1:39: The change from the family tree of the blacks to the marauders. Regulus still remains alone in the Blacks household with the burden of the family and you can see the complete different expression in Sirius’ and Regulus’ eyes. That makes me so sad
And then also the following scene with Barty Crouch Jr. that he just can’t be good enough, his father rejecting his excellent Examen..
2:14 just the smile in regulus face while collecting all the informations of Voldemort
2:47 When he finally burned the letter of his father. I think it’s a great way of showing why the dark lord and the deatheaters were so dangerous and powerful. It’s the first time Barty felt the power of the deatheaters collective to ‘equalize’ his own ‘failure’. His father couldn’t give him any other emotions than being a disappointment but now he has a purpose and someone who accepts him.
3:04 On the one hand Barty with a smile on his face and on the other hand Regulus crying and screaming about the dark mal .
And the following scenes are presenting these differences so well! I’m honestly crying over Regulus being so emotionally destroyed in 3:25. You can see it’s not what he wanted. He never did. And then he opened up his eyes again an started looking for an solution while Barty enjoys the power given by the dark lord. Finally he can be the Oppressor and not the person being oppressed.
3:55 But I also adore the face Barty makes while celebrating right before he is about to drink. That brief moment of doubt
4:14 and finally the change of Barty being in Azkaban to Regulus being dead just broke me. The empty eyes of Regulus...
It’s all my interpretation but I’m so thankful for the work you put into this cmv. You did such an amazing job Portraying two often overlooked characters and showing their development and the effects of the dark lords ideology.

We included so many details in this CMV, so it's just so nice to see them being pointed out and hear thoughts and interpetations.
There's things that I love so much about this like you saying "they’re able to be children for once and forget about the war their family’s are fighting"
I think this is so important and goes universally for characters which is why I really wanted to show them as teens being silly and having fun. I didn't want to reduce them to one or two events and just pure angst and evil "death eater-ness".
But honestly I just wanna underline every sentence and say yes, thank you! It makes me so happy that most of my/our intentions came across and it is so interesting to see what you're adding to this :D
For instance, I love the way you interpreted 03:55 with Barty having a moment of doubt. Technically the celebration was supposed to be everybody's celebrating Voldemort's downfall but we haven't really done a good job on bringing this across and you know it could very well be Barty being kinda doubting or hesitant about what he is going to do to the Longbottoms. I love it! :D

This is incredible! Your cosplays are always on point but the way you guys tell this story of their friendship and struggle to fit in is powerful. This is why people turn to things like gangs, for a sense of community and belonging. Seeing them in this light really provides a lot more insight into these characters. That’s always my favorite part of fanfiction, really being able to explore a villain. Everyone believes themselves to be the hero of their own narrative. Incredible work.

This cmv has turned out really good. As Regulus is my favourite character, I loved how you portrayed his and Bartys character development and their friendship and their motivation to join the Death Eaters. Also the cinematography and the shots were really nice and supporting to the atmosphere. You've all done an awesome job. I would love to see more of this in the future.

SO UNDERRATED! The cinematography is so beautiful! And I love how perfectly the song goes with the well-written storyline! You really portrayed Regulus and Crouch better than the movies, they barely touched the subject. A lot of cosplayers don't bother with Regulus or crouch, it's refreshing to see something new! 2:46 , can we please talk about the unbelievably professional and amazing editing? Fantastisch! Das CMV ist so gut geworden! Die Locations und Kostüme waren so gut aufeinander abgestimmt und die Farbsprache und Cinematography waren super schön! Am Anfang erst die warmen Töne, bis es zum Ende hin immer dunkler und trüber wurde! Ihr habt das Wachsen und Brechen der Freundschaft und auch das Ringen mit den verschiedenen Gefühlen so perfekt dargestellt! Vor allem zum Ende hin durch die schnellen Cuts und Szenenwechsel zwischen Regulus und Bartys Charakterentscheidungen, hat man sich als Zuschauer auch erdrückt gefühlt, was die Atmosphäre nur noch besser unterstrichen und die Gefühle der Charakter noch besser zum Ausdruck gebracht hat! Okay... I am still reeling from the sheer brilliance you've depicted here in under five minutes. The cinematography is gorgeous, the cosplays were on point and the plot and development made my erstwhile impenetrable bitchface crack into pieces... Such heartbreaking bitterness in that single phrase between beautifully designed cuts. I literally had to stop the video for a minute right there just to take it all in, the emotion, all the tiny little gestures and details. This is such an amazingly high quality CMV in every way, from set design to acting and cinematography. And the attention to detail in adapting the lyrics to an original storyline! Wow, just wow.

This was so, so amazing, people usually forgets about the other side of the story, about characthers like Regulus who never had their redemption acknowledged or Barty himself who ended up seeking for love and recognition somewhere else, and they were so, so young and I wonder what could have been like if the Wizardworld had a different system from Azkabam, one who could re-educate people to go back to society... Anyway, I loved it and I know that I will watch it again and again and again in the future.

@@timetrappictures Yeah, like, if the wizard society don't do anything to re-educate people, not only prisoners, but like, kids, the older generation with their outdated beliefs... History repeats itself, Draco was raised the same way Regulus was, in a pureblood family, with the stigma of a slytherin, and he ended up between a rock and a hard place, just like him. But, about the video, re-watching it again just made me fall more for the details, and I want to say that the acting was so, so good! I really hope you guys make a Q&A in the future, and I look forward for more of your work ♡
